The Innkeeper

Chapter 1812: I’ve seen him in my dreams

The dance was a big hit, just as Z expected. It wasn’t just that Lex’s ability to stir up passion in anyone who watched the dance was absurdly strong. No, it was because Lex was popular. Or rather, calling him popular was no longer sufficient.

Lex could be the subject of a celebrity worship cult based solely on the reaction of the guests at the Inn, and who knew how those outside the Inn would react to his dance?

He was handsome, charismatic, powerful, and to top it off, a good dancer. So, suffice to say, his dance was loved by many. There was one specific demographic who particularly enjoyed his performance: angel baddies!

Unlike the Devils they were most often compared to, Angels actually lived in a very structured and disciplined society with very stringent requirements of all its citizens. Naturally, living in such an environment would cause many of them to have a lot of pent up feelings. Lex, for reasons Z did not know, seemed particularly skilled at stirring those pent up emotions!

Now, Z wasn’t saying that the dance wasn’t good – far from it. He was just saying that, considering the expectations that Lex had built over the years, it was merely mediocre. Like, all it did was cause a massive surge in guests who wanted to watch the performance live, achieve an unbelievable 95% votes from women in the Midnight Inn, and start several new dating trends.

Lex and Ash walked off the stage amidst a standing ovation. While Lex himself had attracted a lot of attention from female guests, Ash too had won countless hearts. In fact, the wedding planner herself started to get many wedding proposals – not that she would consider such low effort proposals.

“What do you guys think? Do we have a chance of winning the round, or is the competition already over?” Lex asked.

“This one is in the bag,” Gerard said. “I can’t imagine losing this unless our opponent cheats somehow. I even got a message from Lilith mentioning that some of her single cousins have been asking about you. Getting that kind of attention should be more than enough to win such a competition.”

Lex rubbed his nose so that he could use his hand to hide his smile. Dancing was not something he had much experience in, nor was it something he thought about much in his life. To know that he was so good at it kind of felt nice, and who didn’t like getting some attention from some pretty girls? Just as long as it was limited to attention alone, and not something more drastic.

“Well then, if you’re so sure that we’ll win this one, then that leaves only the solo performance. I don’t think that should be any issue either.”

The entire group seemed to agree, and they all returned to their private room in the auditorium, no longer feeling like they had any reason to be there. They would, of course, return for the last performance.

In a different private room, Elesia was staring at the frozen picture of Lex from his performance, as if she was in a trance.

“I know right?” asked Fey, noticing how much her friend was staring at Lex. “He’s kind of cute. More importantly, I’ve heard he can cure angels’ wings from most diseases without much difficulty. If we hadn’t gotten orders from up above to avoid him, I’m sure one of our sisters would have snagged him up by now.”

Elesia did not hear a single word Fey said. She was still recovering from the shock of seeing Lex live!

“I know him,” she whispered in disbelief. “I’ve seen him in my dreams. He… he can help me become a valkyrie!”

Fey looked at Elesia oddly.

“Are you okay? I mean, it’s impressive how he can heal wings, but that’s nowhere near being able to somehow allow you to become a valkyrie.”

“No, no you don’t understand,” Elesia said, turning to look at Fey filled with intense excitement! “I’ve seen it in my dreams! He… he can alter my physique! No, he can alter any humanoid physique! He can make us stronger!”

“Elesia, I think you need to get some rest, you’re losing it. There’s no way someone exists who can alter any humanoid physique. That’s way too powerful. Well, no one under Dao Lord anyway.”

Elesia pursed her lips, but said no more. It was clear that no one would believe what she had to say – it was too fantastical. If someone below the Dao Realm could alter any humanoid physique, then that would be an incredible breakthrough.

The Humanoid Alliance would stop at nothing to replicate that ability because it could instantly strengthen the entire alliance and speed up the evolution of many weaker humanoid races.

But for reasons she herself wasn’t sure, Elesia knew for a fact that her dreams weren’t fake. Lex could help her, she knew it. Now she just had to figure out how to get him to help her without letting anyone else figure out his ability beforehand. As for what would happen afterwards, she couldn’t care less.

The hours slipped by once more, and the auction finally entered its final phase, with the last ten items left to auction.

At the same time, the result for the second round came out. Lex and Ash won by a phenomenal 67%, which was actually the worst that the Cold Brood Empire had ever lost by. It was not so easy to convince the masses so thoroughly – especially since the Empire too had used celebrities to boost their popularity.

Now it all came down to the final performance. Whoever won that would win the whole tournament.

With so much on the line, KD finally entered the Midnight Inn himself, not leaving it up to chance. After all, when he danced himself, his system could also help him out.

The Komodo Dragon commanded a powerful presence, making evident in a single glance that he was the ruler of a massive and powerful empire. He was also a fan favourite for the dance off competitions because, naturally, he was an excellent dancer.

Now it was just a matter of leaving it all out on stage.
