Chapter 279 - I’ll Always Live a Day Longer Than You Do
Chapter 279: I’ll Always Live a Day Longer Than You Do
At the thought that it might be his own blood, a strange feeling crept onto Jiang Xuecheng’s back.
Should he give a little of his blood to another person to test?
Jiang Xuecheng pursed his lips. His eyes fell on the back of Su Wan’s completely smooth left hand. There was slight worry in his eyes.
Under yesterday’s circumstances, Su Wan’s consciousness was not completely clear and drinking his blood had been an accident.
However, if Jiang Xuecheng wanted to find another human to undergo this test, just a thought of this made him frown tightly and feel extremely disgusted at the bottom of his heart.
It was only because the person was Su Wan that he could accept this situation.
It might be better for him to bury this matter in his heart.
Since he was young, Jiang Xuecheng could vaguely feel he was different from ordinary people. For example, he had no heartbeat when he was born, his senses were extremely sharp, and he had an amazing healing ability…
However, if one were to use medical means to investigate these differences, no specific difference could be found.
As the Chinese saying goes, ‘those who are not of our kin are sure to have different hearts.’ It showed how strong the exclusiveness was. Jiang Xuecheng didn’t want to be treated as a guinea pig to be put in a lab for tests.
Just when Jiang Xuecheng was spacing out, he suddenly heard the clear sound of knocks on the door.
A dim light flashed through Jiang Xuecheng’s eyes. He recollected himself and answered softly, “Come in.”
The door of the intensive care unit was pushed opened very quickly and Ah Si appeared.
Ah Shi was carrying two thermal lunch boxes and walking toward Jiang Xuecheng. He darted a glance at Su Wan who was still quiet and whose eyes were still shut and he looked grave.
“Young Master, has Young Madam’s condition not changed?”
Jiang Xuecheng replied in a deep voice, “Although she’s still sleeping, at least her temperature has returned to normal.”
“That’s great. It means Young Madam’s condition is improving.”
When Ah Si heard this piece of good news, he let out a sigh of relief. He put the two thermal lunch boxes on the table and nodded respectfully at Jiang Xuecheng.
“Young Master, this is the pumpkin millet congee cooked by Aunty Fang. There’s some bland food with herbs too. Aunty Fang guessed that you’ve not eaten either and so she prepared two portions.”
“Ah Si, please thank Aunty Fang for me.” Jiang Xuecheng nodded slightly and said, “If you have important things to see to, you may go back to the office first.”
Upon hearing this, he touched the back of his head. In fact, he had taken a day off from work because of Su Wan.
“Young Master, there isn’t anything waiting for me. It’s you that the old staff are anxious about. They dare not call you but my phone is at the brink of exploding.”
A sharp light flashed through Jiang Xuecheng’s eyes and he snorted coldly.
“Tell them that even if I’m not around, they have to perform their own duties and not panic.”
Hearing Jiang Xuecheng’s order, Ah Si nodded seriously and repeated what he said.
“Young Master, I’ll take my leave first then. Don’t starve yourself. The food that Aunty Fang prepared is for two.”
Ah Si was worried about Jiang Xuecheng because his young master used to have irregular meals in the past and had once gotten gastric problems. Ah Si didn’t want Jiang Xuecheng’s gastric problems to recur.
If one was down with illness, the other would be around to look after but if both were down with illness, he would really be busy.
After Ah Si left the ward silently, Jiang Xuecheng felt warmth in his heart. To Jiang Xuecheng, this subordinate of his was closer to him than those residing in the Jiangs’ old mansion.
Jiang Xuecheng’s lips curved into a radian. He stood up and looked out from the window. It was raining outsid and it looked like the rain would last till the night.
Jiang Xuecheng stood where he was. He touched Su Wan’s brows and continued thinking about the problem he was thinking earlier on.
His eyes flashed and suddenly, Su Wan’s lips trembled, as if calling out.
Was Su Wan going to wake up?
A pleasing surprise appeared in his heart. He bent down to hear what Su Wan was murmuring.
“Xue…cheng…”
Su Wan’s voice was soft and dimly discernible. Luckily, Jiang Xuecheng had a sharp sense of hearing and could make out what Su Wan was saying.
“Father…Mother…don’t…don’t leave me alone.”
Su Wan’s brows were tightly knitted. She was crying out vaguely, as if she was in a nightmare. Jiang Xuecheng’s smile slacked. He gently caressed Su Wan’s brows.
“Wan Wan, I’m right here. I won’t leave you alone.”
Su Wan’s voice slowly calmed down, as if she had heard Jiang Xuecheng’s promise.
***
Su Wan was in a vast and empty dream. In the beginning, the picture in the dream was warm. Both her parents were around. Both of them looked young and they were a perfect match.
Their family of three were at the beach. The little her spread her feet and ran heartily on the beach.
Suddenly, the picture changed suddenly. A grand storm came, engulfing both her father and mother into the sea.
Su Wan screamed and cried as she wandered in the endless loneliness. The water under her feet had turned into thick ice, almost causing her frostbite.
Only she was left. She was all alone.
Su Wan hugged her arms helplessly. Suddenly, someone hugged her with the hottest temperature and she floated in the air with him. They depended on one another and gradually became one.
Trembling with a start, Su Wan opened her eyes. Her surrounding had been dark for a long time and for a moment, she was not used to the current brightness.
Su Wan blinked her eyes in a trance. Just when she was about to examine carefully where she was, a pair of arms firmly brought her into his embrace before she was completely conscious.
When Su Wan smelt the familiar clean breath, her eyes widened and almost without thinking, she called out his name, “Xuecheng…”
Jiang Xuecheng grabbed Su Wan’s shoulders and touched her nose.
“Finally, you’re willing to wake up! Do you know what time it is?”
Hearing Jiang Xuecheng’s question, Su Wan shook her head. She really didn’t know how long she had been sleeping. However, the unique smell of disinfectant wafted into her nose and she realized where she was right now.
Her vision was clear. She could see Jiang Xuecheng’s worried eyes and a trace of uncontrollable heartache suddenly appeared in her heart.
“Sorry I’ve made you worried.”
Su Wan leaned against Jiang Xuecheng’s shoulders and heard his heartbeat. Her voice was slightly hoarse as she said, “Xuecheng, I thought I was dead.”
Jiang Xuecheng stared at Su Wan and lots of emotions flashed past him. Then, he tapped Su Wan’s nose.
“Silly, you’ll live a long life. Even if you die, I’ll accompany you. I’ll always live a day longer than you do.”
Hearing the man’s firm voice, Su Wan’s heart softened inexplicably. She sniffed and was touched. After that, she didn’t know what to say.
I’ll always live a day longer than you do, because I hope to protect you forever.
