The Incubus System Chapter 859. Ew!

Larry's PoV

"He? Powerful?" Larry said with a sneer. "Pfft!" he snorted, holding back his laughter. "No. He's not that powerful," he tried to boast, attempting to downplay the strength of the demon he just encountered. However, the memory of Ethan, a demon lord capable of kicking a gigantic slime demon lord, lingered in his mind, making his attempt at confidence shaky.

Larry quickly corrected himself, trying to project an air of superiority. "Well, he— he's actually kinda strong. But you know me, right? With a little bit of strategy and my impeccable demon hunter skills, I managed to scare him off," he explained, emphasizing his supposed tactical brilliance.

Nathan, however, showed distrust in Larry's narrative. "What do you mean by 'this and that'?" he asked, his narrowed eyes revealing a mix of uncertainty and suspicion. He wasn't buying Larry's bravado and wanted a more detailed explanation of the encounter.

Larry hesitated for a moment, realizing he needed a convincing story to maintain his newfound status among the demon hunters. "Oh, you know, just some top demon hunter techniques. Can't reveal all my secrets, can I?" he replied, trying to maintain an air of mystery while avoiding the specifics.

"But I will tell you since you are my friend. It's my courage, of course," Larry proudly declared, his chest puffed out with self-importance. "Let's be honest. How many demon hunters would dare to face him one on one? Only a few. I am one of them. I fought him like crazy. Even those elders fainted from watching our fight," he bluffed, attempting to weave a tale of heroism to impress Nathan.

Nathan, however, wasn't easily swayed. "So he didn't try to kidnap those elders?" he asked again, narrowing his eyes, his tone resembling an interrogation.

Larry cringed at the direct question. "No. Certainly not. Ew! Why would he kidnap them? They are oldies," he said dismissively. "The slime demons that infiltrated their bodies brought them here. I fought them. Then that great demon came," Larry explained, embellishing the story to align with his version of events.

Nathan's skepticism persisted. "Slime demons? Really?" he questioned, raising an eyebrow.

Larry nodded emphatically. "Yes, slime demons. Tricky little things, but nothing a skilled demon hunter like me couldn't handle," he boasted, doing his best to maintain the facade of a seasoned and fearless warrior.

Nathan exchanged glances with his team, the uncertainty still lingering in their eyes. Larry, eager to solidify his heroic image, continued to spin his exaggerated tale, hoping that the embellishments would overshadow any doubts Nathan and the others might have.

"Then? What did he do after he came?" Nathan inquired, urging Larry to continue his account of the encounter.

"He came late, so he was a little annoyed. Finally, we fought. The rest is as you can see," Larry replied indifferently, as if recounting a mundane event. Yet, beneath his nonchalant exterior, a clear undertone of confidence resonated.

Nathan's gaze shifted from Larry to the elders scattered on the ground before settling on the one perched awkwardly on the bench. The elderly man's position was indeed peculiar, bordering on embarrassing. This sight prompted a furrowed brow from Nathan. Had it not been connected to demonic activities, he might have dismissed it as the result of some foolish antics.

"So, you fought him?" Nathan probed further, his skepticism was evident.

Larry nodded, still maintaining an air of casual indifference. "Yeah, we exchanged a few blows. But, you know me, I can handle these things," he boasted, attempting to reinforce his image as a fearless and capable demon hunter.

Nathan's doubt lingered, evident in the subtle crease between his brows. He turned his attention back to the elders, contemplating the strange scene before him. Larry's narrative, while presented with confidence, left room for skepticism. Nathan couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the story than Larry was letting on.

Larry, realizing that Nathan was scrutinizing his peculiar handiwork, felt a twinge of panic. Despite the unease, he mustered all his courage to maintain a facade of confidence.

"What---" Nathan redirected his gaze back to Larry, about to voice his confusion when Larry swiftly interjected, "Okay, let's stop right there. We have more important things to do." Larry gestured towards the elders sprawled on the ground. "We have to call an ambulance and help them," he insisted, his tone suddenly shifting to one of concern. "They are old, and it's night already. Are you just going to leave them like that? They will be cold. What if they catch a cold?" Larry posed these questions, feigning genuine worry in his voice.

Again, Larry, with an air of urgency, pointed dramatically at the elderly man on the bench, his words punctuated by theatrical gestures. "And look! Look at that pathetic old man. That demon put him in an absurd position. We have to help him immediately. If he wakes up first or someone else sees him before we fix his position, he won't have the will to live anymore. It's so embarrassing!" Larry's melodramatic plea hung in the air, a desperate attempt to distract from the bizarre scene he had orchestrated.

Nathan, caught between Larry's theatrics and the peculiar situation, shot another quick glance at the contorted elderly man before fixing his eyes on Larry. A skeptical furrow marked his brow as he processed Larry's impassioned words. However, recognizing the need for immediate action, Nathan swiftly made a decision.

"I will call the ambulance and sweep the area," Nathan declared, addressing his two teams. His orders were crisp and efficient. "You and you, come with me. Others, help L to evacuate the victims and make sure they are safe." Nathan's authoritative directives set his team in motion, each member understanding their role in managing the aftermath of this otherworldly encounter.

Larry, relieved that his diversion seemed to be working, nodded vigorously. "Exactly! We need to act fast," he added, mirroring Nathan's sense of urgency. In the chaos that ensued, Larry discreetly exchanged a glance with Nathan.
