Chapter 67: Chapter 67: I’m Hungry

Xi Yunxui came down from the transit bus with ease, slowly exhaling as she took in the lively morning atmosphere around her.

The streets were already bustling with activity.

Cars moved steadily along the road, occasionally sounding their horns. Pedestrians walked along the sidewalks, some rushing toward their destinations while others moved at a more leisurely pace. Small shops had already opened for business, and the occasional scent of food drifted through the air.

Xi Yunxui stood beside the bus stop for a moment, quietly observing everything around her.

Even though she had only taken the transit bus once before, Xi Yunxui possessed an exceptionally sharp memory. After experiencing something once, she could usually remember the process clearly.

Because of that, she had managed to board the bus, pay her fare, and get off at the correct stop without attracting any unnecessary attention.

A faint smile appeared on her lips.

Perhaps she was becoming more accustomed to this strange world after all.

Her fingers unconsciously touched the strap of the backpack resting against her back.

The backpack.

The one Huo Jingchen had given her yesterday.

Xi Yunxui’s expression softened slightly as she remembered the previous evening.

Since she was going to her apartment to pack the few belongings she still had there, she had decided that bringing the backpack along would be useful.

After all, she would need somewhere to put her things.

With that thought in mind, Xi Yunxui began walking away from the bus stop.

However, after only taking a few steps, her thoughts gradually drifted back to the previous night.

---

The Previous Night

Xi Yunxui sat on her bed with a faint smile on her face.

King C was beside her, while Biyu remained on her other side.

For several moments, Xi Yunxui simply sat there, absentmindedly stroking both of their heads.

Biyu seemed particularly pleased with the attention.

The chicken-like creature closed its emerald-green eyes halfway and leaned its head into Xi Yunxui’s palm, making soft, contented sounds.

"Kiion... kiion..."

Xi Yunxui couldn’t help smiling.

King C, however, immediately became dissatisfied.

Although he didn’t say anything, the expression on his face made his displeasure painfully obvious.

Xi Yunxui was stroking Biyu.

And she was clearly enjoying it.

Xi Yunxui glanced at him.

King C immediately turned his head away.

Xi Yunxui raised an eyebrow.

"Are you jealous?"

"Who is jealous?" King C immediately snapped.

His response was so quick that Xi Yunxui’s smile widened.

"I didn’t even say anything yet."

King C froze.

Xi Yunxui laughed quietly.

Biyu also made another soft sound, though whether it was joining in the teasing or simply enjoying the situation, no one could tell.

King C glared at the bird.

Biyu stared back innocently.

Xi Yunxui shook her head helplessly before reaching toward King C and stroking his head as well.

Only then did his expression improve.

"Really troublesome," Xi Yunxui muttered.

King C raised his chin proudly.

"Of course. I am an exalted divine creature."

Xi Yunxui gave him a look.

King C immediately fell silent.

After what had happened in the storehouse, he still hadn’t completely forgotten the terrifying experience of nearly being roasted alive.

Xi Yunxui watched his expression change and immediately understood what he was thinking.

She sighed.

"I already apologized."

King C muttered something under his breath.

"What was that?"

"Nothing."

Xi Yunxui narrowed her eyes.

King C immediately moved farther away.

Seeing his reaction, Xi Yunxui couldn’t help but laugh again.

The three of them remained on the bed for some time.

Perhaps it was because the events of the day had finally caught up with her.

Perhaps it was because she had spent the entire day cooking, worrying about King C and Biyu destroying the garden, discovering that someone had tampered with the food, and then dealing with the unexpected appearance of the Huo patriarch.

Whatever the reason was, Xi Yunxui gradually began to feel sleepy.

She eventually lay down properly on the bed.

King C remained near her pillow.

Biyu settled down beside her.

Before Xi Yunxui realized it, her eyes had closed.

And she fell asleep.

---

When Xi Yunxui opened her eyes again, the room was dark.

For several seconds, she remained lying on the bed without moving.

Her mind was still foggy from sleep.

Then she suddenly sat upright.

The room was dark.

Very dark.

Xi Yunxui quickly turned her head toward the clock.

Her eyes widened.

"Eleven?"

It was already eleven o’clock at night.

Xi Yunxui blinked.

Then she blinked again.

She had actually slept for several hours.

Slowly, she rubbed her forehead.

"No wonder my body feels strange."

She had initially intended to take only a short nap.

Who would have thought that she would sleep until this late?

Xi Yunxui looked around the room.

King C was lying on the bed nearby.

Biyu was also resting peacefully.

Xi Yunxui quietly got down from the bed.

By now, dinner should have already been served at the main residence.

The servants in the staff quarters would probably have eaten as well.

Xi Yunxui placed a hand over her stomach.

Almost immediately, her stomach responded.

Growl.

Xi Yunxui lowered her head.

"..."

She was hungry.

Very hungry.

Xi Yunxui let out a quiet sigh.

She had slept through dinner.

Now, she could only hope that there were leftovers somewhere.

Perhaps Auntie Zhang was still awake.

Or perhaps there was something remaining in the kitchen.

Xi Yunxui was just about to walk toward the door when King C’s ears suddenly perked up.

Xi Yunxui paused.

Before she could ask what was happening, King C suddenly jumped down from the bed.

His sudden movement startled Biyu awake.

Biyu lifted its head in confusion.

Its bright emerald-green eyes blinked sleepily.

King C walked toward Xi Yunxui with an aggrieved expression.

"Hey."

Xi Yunxui looked down at him.

King C stared back.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then King C’s expression became even more aggrieved.

"I’m hungry."

Xi Yunxui stared at him.

"You’re hungry?"

King C nodded.

Xi Yunxui placed a hand over her stomach.

"So am I."

King C immediately looked pleased.

As though the fact that Xi Yunxui was also hungry somehow meant that they were sharing the same suffering.

Xi Yunxui shook her head helplessly.

"Come along, then."

King C immediately followed her.

Xi Yunxui walked back toward the bed and carefully picked up the half-awake Biyu.

Biyu made a sleepy sound.

"Kiion..."

"Sorry," Xi Yunxui whispered. "We’re going to look for food."

The moment Biyu heard the word food, its sleepy eyes immediately opened wider.

Xi Yunxui stared at it.

Biyu stared back.

Then it gently rubbed its head against her arm.

Xi Yunxui couldn’t help smiling.

"You’re hungry too?"

Biyu made another sound.

"Kiion!"

King C looked at the creature with disdain.

"Glutton."

Biyu turned its head and glared at him.

King C immediately glared back.

Xi Yunxui sighed.

She hadn’t even left her room yet, and the two of them were already preparing to start another argument.

"Both of you," Xi Yunxui warned.

King C immediately became quiet.

Biyu also lowered its head.

Xi Yunxui looked between the two of them suspiciously.

Only when she was certain that neither of them intended to cause trouble did she finally walk toward the door.

King C followed closely behind her.

Xi Yunxui carefully opened the door.

The hallway outside was considerably quieter than it had been during the day.

Most of the servants had probably returned to their rooms to rest.

Xi Yunxui stepped outside with Biyu still in her arms.

King C walked beside her.

For some reason, Xi Yunxui suddenly felt as though she was taking two children out in the middle of the night to search for food.

The thought made her lips twitch.

What exactly has my life become?

In her previous life, she had spent years taking care of her younger siblings.

She had worked tirelessly to make sure that they were fed.

Now that she had transmigrated into another world, she had somehow acquired a goat-like divine creature and a chicken-like creature with unusual wings.

And both of them expected her to feed them.

Xi Yunxui sighed deeply.

Perhaps taking care of younger siblings and taking care of these two isn’t that different after all.

King C suddenly looked up at her.

"Hey."

"What?"

"Food."

"I know."

"I’m very hungry."

"I heard you the first time."

King C fell silent.

Several seconds later—

"I’m still hungry."

Xi Yunxui stopped walking.

King C also stopped.

Xi Yunxui slowly lowered her gaze.

King C stared back at her.

Biyu remained quietly in Xi Yunxui’s arms.

For several seconds, the hallway was completely silent.

Then Xi Yunxui slowly smiled.

King C immediately became alert.

"Don’t smile like that."

Xi Yunxui’s smile widened.

"Like what?"

"Like you’re thinking about roasting me."

Xi Yunxui’s lips twitched.

Biyu suddenly made a strange sound that sounded suspiciously like laughter.

"Kiion—"

King C immediately glared at it.

Xi Yunxui finally couldn’t hold back her laughter.

"Let’s go."

Without waiting for another complaint from King C, Xi Yunxui continued walking down the hallway.

King C hurried after her.

Biyu remained comfortably nestled in her arms.

And just like that, in the middle of the quiet night, Xi Yunxui and her two troublesome creatures headed toward the main residence.

Completely unaware that their search for something as simple as a late-night meal would soon lead to another unexpected encounter.
