By the time they returned to the Huo residence, the sun had already begun sinking toward the horizon.

The golden light of evening painted the sky as Xi Yunxui stepped out of the car.

Huo Jingchen remained in his seat.

"I have a meeting to attend."

Xi Yunxui nodded.

"Alright, Young Master."

He looked at her for a moment.

"Go inside."

"Yes."

The car pulled away.

Xi Yunxui stood by the roadside and watched until it disappeared beyond the gates.

She then turned and entered the residence.

She went directly to the staff quarters.

Since she had now officially decided to work at the Huo residence full-time, she needed to move the rest of her belongings from her old apartment.

I’ll go back tomorrow and bring everything.

For now, the room Auntie Zhang had given her would be her home.

She entered, closed the door and changed into her maid uniform.

Afterward, she placed her small backpack on the bed.

Its entire body was covered in soft white fur.

Its legs were tiny, though they were slightly dirty from walking through the grass and soil.

Two little horns curved neatly from the top of its head.

Its face was round and adorable.

And its eyes—

Golden.

Bright, beautiful golden eyes that stared directly at Xi Yunxui.

Xi Yunxui stared back.

For several seconds, neither moved.

"How did you get in here?"

The creature blinked.

Xi Yunxui looked at her backpack.

It wasn’t large enough to comfortably hold something that size.

And yet somehow, this creature had apparently been hiding inside it.

She touched its little back.

The fur was soft.

"What are you?"

The creature stared at her.

Then a voice suddenly sounded inside her head.

[I am King C.]

"AH!"

She jumped to her feet.

The tiny creature landed safely on the bed.

Xi Yunxui immediately looked around.

"System!"

[Yes, Host?]

"Why did your voice change?"

The system went silent for a moment.

[That was not the system.]

Xi Yunxui slowly looked toward the little creature.

The creature was staring back at her.

Its tiny tail flicked once.

Xi Yunxui pointed.

"It was you?"

[Yes.]

Xi Yunxui’s mouth opened.

Then closed.

Then opened again.

"You can talk?"

[Of course.]

She stared at the creature.

The creature stared at her.

Then it lifted one tiny paw.

[Why are you looking at me like that?]

Xi Yunxui crouched down.

"You’re talking inside my head."

[I am an exalted god.]

Xi Yunxui blinked.

"...What?"

The creature raised its chin.

[I am an exalted god of the mountain.]

Xi Yunxui stared at its tiny body.

Its legs were barely bigger than her fingers.

There were still bits of grass stuck to its fur.

She pointed at it.

"You?"

The creature’s ears twitched.

"Yes."

Xi Yunxui covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.

"You’re a god?"

[Yes! Show some respect!]

The creature raised one tiny paw dramatically.

Its chest puffed out.

[How dare you question the greatness of King C! I am the guardian of the mountain! The ruler of the spiritual beasts! The revered—]

Xi Yunxui interrupted.

"Does a god steal vegetables?"

Silence.

The creature’s raised paw slowly lowered.

Xi Yunxui continued.

"Because I spent all morning helping the villagers, and then I carried those vegetables all the way home."

She pointed at the bag.

A/N: Some of the vegetables was in the bag.

"And apparently you were inside it eating them."

The creature looked away.

[That is unrelated.]

Xi Yunxui’s eyes narrowed.

"Unrelated?"

[Completely.]

She stared at it.

"Then how did you get into my bag?"

The creature became silent.

Its golden eyes shifted left.

Then right.

Xi Yunxui folded her arms.

"Well?"

The little creature lowered its head.

[You left the bag unattended.]

Xi Yunxui blinked.

"That doesn’t answer my question."

[I was hungry.]

"So you climbed inside?"

[Yes.]

The creature looked offended.

The creature stomped one tiny hoof against the bed.

The creature immediately looked at her.

Its golden eyes sparkled.

The creature turned its head away.

Xi Yunxui gently picked up the tiny creature.

It didn’t struggle.

Instead, it settled comfortably in her arms.

She looked down at it.

"King C, huh?"

"What kind of creature are you?"

The little creature remained silent for a moment.

Then its golden eyes narrowed mysteriously.

[That is a secret.]

Xi Yunxui raised an eyebrow.

"Fine."

She glanced at its dirty little legs.

"But tonight you’re getting washed."

King C immediately stiffened.

[What?]

Xi Yunxui smiled.

"You ate my vegetables."

The tiny creature looked horrified.

Xi Yunxui carried him toward the bathroom.

"Don’t worry. Your godhood will survive a bath."

"Your command has been rejected."
