Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Television Sorcery

Auntie Zhang remained at the doorway for another moment, still looking at Xi Yunxui as though she wanted to make absolutely certain that nothing was wrong.

Once she was satisfied, she finally relaxed.

"Since you’re awake, you should come out later and have something to eat. Don’t stay in bed all day."

"I will," Xi Yunxun promised.

Auntie Zhang nodded before turning to leave.

"Rest for a little while first. I’ll see you later."

"All right, Auntie Zhang."

Xi Yunxui watched her walk down the corridor before closing the door.

The moment the door clicked shut, the room fell quiet again.

Xi Yunxui stood there for a few seconds, her mind replaying everything that had happened since morning. The mountain, the ancient creature, the sudden arrival of the cultivators, the teleportation, the system’s unexpected announcement, and now Auntie Zhang worrying because she had not gone out of the room through half the day...

It had certainly been eventful.

With another tired sigh, Xi Yunxui returned to the bed and lay down.

She did not even bother removing her clothes this time. She simply pulled the blanket over herself, intending to rest for a little while before figuring out what she was going to do next.

King C settled himself near the foot of the bed, while Biyu perched on the nearby chair. Jianshan’s presence had already returned to her spiritual consciousness, leaving only the faint awareness of his existence at the edge of her thoughts.

Xi Yunxui closed her eyes.

For once, she wanted nothing more than a few minutes of peace.

Her breathing gradually became slower as the exhaustion caught up with her. She was just beginning to drift toward sleep when the mattress shifted beside her.

Xi Yunxui opened her eyes.

Hui had climbed onto the bed.

Still in her little-girl form, Hui crawled closer until she was beside Xi Yunxui, her dark round eyes looking up at her with an innocent expression.

"Big Sister," Hui said softly, "I’m hungry."

Xi Yunxui stared at her for a moment before a smile tugged at her lips.

Before she could answer, King C immediately spoke up from the foot of the bed.

"Yes! We’re hungry!"

Xi Yunxui turned her head toward him.

The timing was so suspicious that she could not help laughing.

"Why are you speaking for everyone?"

King C looked completely unashamed.

"Because we’re all hungry. There’s nothing wrong with speaking for everyone."

Xi Yunxui narrowed her eyes slightly as she stared at him.

She did not say a word.

She simply looked at him.

King C’s confident expression gradually became less confident under her gaze.

"What?"

Xi Yunxui continued staring.

King C shifted uneasily.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

Her knowing expression made him feel as though she had seen straight through him.

He immediately puffed up his cheeks.

"Stop staring at me!"

That only made Xi Yunxui laugh.

Hui giggled beside her, covering her mouth with both hands as her little shoulders bounced with amusement. Even Biyu seemed to understand what was happening, letting out a series of cheerful chirps that sounded almost like laughter.

The room soon filled with their laughter.

King C, who had been the cause of it all, looked increasingly dissatisfied as the others laughed at him.

"What are you all laughing about? I’m only telling the truth!"

That made Xi Yunxui laugh even harder.

After several moments, she finally sat up, wiping the corner of her eye.

"All right, all right. Since everyone is hungry, I’ll go find something for you to eat."

She climbed out of bed and stretched before walking over to the wardrobe.

Her current clothes were hardly suitable for wandering around the main residence, so she changed into her maid uniform, straightened her clothes, and tied her hair neatly.

Once she was ready, she turned toward the three little companions.

"You three stay here and wait for me. Don’t run around the residence while I’m gone."

King C immediately looked dissatisfied.

"But—"

"No."

Xi Yunxui gave him a warning look.

King C swallowed the rest of his protest.

Hui nodded obediently.

"Okay, Big Sister."

Biyu chirped in agreement and fluttered onto the bed.

Xi Yunxui smiled before opening the door.

"I’ll be back soon."

She stepped into the corridor and closed the door behind her.

The moment she left the staff quarters, the atmosphere gradually became livelier. Servants moved through the residence carrying trays, delivering messages, or completing their assigned tasks, and the familiar sounds of the Huo family’s main residence quickly replaced the quiet of her room.

As Xi Yunxui walked toward the main residence, she passed a small group of maids standing together near the side corridor.

Their voices immediately caught her attention.

"Isn’t he handsome?"

"Of course, he is."

"If you ask me, he’s even more handsome than the eldest young master."

"He’s so cool!"

Xi Yunxui raised an eyebrow.

She slowed for only a moment before continuing on her way.

She had no idea who they were talking about, and she had no intention of stopping to ask.

By the time she reached the sitting room, the maids’ excited voices had faded behind her. Xi Yunxui stepped inside, expecting to find the usual quiet room.

Instead, she nearly walked straight into the strangest sight she had ever seen.

A huge black screen stood at the center of the room.

Images were moving across it.

Xi Yunxui stopped so abruptly that her foot remained half-raised in the air.

Her eyes widened.

There were people on the screen.

Several people dressed in white coats were standing around what appeared to be a laboratory, moving between tables covered with strange equipment. One of them was pouring a clear liquid into a glass container, while another carefully measured a brightly colored substance and added it drop by drop. A third person watched the mixture closely, occasionally adjusting a knob on a machine that hummed and flashed with tiny lights.

The liquid inside the container slowly changed color.

First it became pale blue, then cloudy white, and finally a strange green that seemed to glow beneath the bright lamps.

Xi Yunxui stared.

The people on the screen were moving.

Not painted.

Not carved.

Actually moving.

She slowly took a step closer, her expression growing more serious by the second.

"What is that?"

Her curiosity immediately overcame her surprise. She had watched a video on her phone before, but the small screen had never prepared her for seeing moving images displayed so clearly on something so large. More importantly, she had no idea what the people in white coats were doing.

Were they preparing medicine?

Were they refining some kind of strange liquid?

Or were they attempting to create an entirely new concoction?

Xi Yunxui leaned forward, her eyes following every movement on the screen. One of the people poured a dark red substance into a transparent flask, and the mixture began to bubble violently. Another person quickly stepped back and reached for a pair of thick gloves.

Xi Yunxui’s eyes widened further.

"What are they making?"

She had no idea who these people were or what they were supposed to be doing. She did not know that they were scientists, nor did she understand that the room shown on the screen was a laboratory. To her, they simply looked like a group of unfamiliar people experimenting with mysterious liquids and complicated tools.

The scene changed, showing another group gathered around a large machine. Tubes ran from one side of it to the other, while small lights blinked across its metal surface. One of the people carefully placed a container inside the machine and pressed several buttons.

The machine immediately began to vibrate.

Xi Yunxui instinctively took another step back.

Then the screen showed the container again. The liquid inside had transformed into a thick, glowing purple substance.

Xi Yunxui’s expression became solemn.

"That concoction changed again..."

She watched with complete concentration, trying to understand the purpose behind every action. The people on the screen seemed extremely serious, as though the strange mixture was important. They measured everything carefully, recorded something on a board, and repeatedly examined the liquid before adding another substance.

Xi Yunxui could not help becoming more curious.

What kind of medicine required so many steps?

Was it poison?

A healing elixir?

Or perhaps some kind of experimental spiritual liquid?

She had not seen alchemists refine pills and cultivators prepare medicinal brews, but this process looked completely different. There were no furnaces, no spiritual flames, and no visible traces of spiritual energy. Instead, the people relied on glass containers, metal instruments, and machines that made unfamiliar sounds.

She had lived in the modern world for some time, but for one reason or another, she had never actually seen a television switched on.

To her, a television had always been nothing more than a large black screen sitting in the residence.

She had never imagined that the strange object could suddenly come alive and display moving images like this.

Xi Yunxui stood there, completely captivated.

The scene on the screen changed again, revealing another group of people gathered around a complicated piece of equipment. One of them began speaking while pointing toward a series of containers, but Xi Yunxui was too focused on the moving images and the mysterious concoction to immediately understand the explanation.

Her eyes remained fixed on the screen.

"This..."

She unconsciously moved another step forward.

"...is a television?"

For several seconds, Xi Yunxui simply stood there, staring at the screen with undisguised curiosity. Then, as though the television might vanish if she blinked, she leaned closer and waved a hand in front of it.

Nothing happened.

She waved again, just to be certain.

The people on the screen continued moving as if they had not noticed her at all. One of them lifted a flask, examined the strange liquid inside, and then poured it into another container.

Xi Yunxui’s gaze followed the movement from beginning to end.

"What are they doing with that?"

She tilted her head, genuinely puzzled.

The people in white coats continued their work, mixing, measuring, heating, and examining their mysterious concoctions with great seriousness. Xi Yunxui watched every step, her curiosity growing instead of fading. She wanted to know what the liquids were, why they kept changing color, and what would happen if the experiment succeeded.

Slowly, she lowered her hand, her face filled with solemn disbelief.

She had seen plenty of modern conveniences since arriving in this world, but somehow, the television was the one thing that had finally managed to leave her genuinely speechless—and suspiciously convinced that the black box was practicing some kind of sorcery while allowing unknown people to display their strange experiments inside it.
