Chapter 147: Chapter - 147 - Awakening the Fallen King

Lucien moved effortlessly through the deep shadows like a ghost, with Zaria keeping close at his side and Vex tracking a single step behind them. The three of them had slipped into the royal compound through a secluded servant’s entrance, guided entirely by the detailed map and guard schedules Vex had spent the past two days gathering.

The King’s private wing was heavily fortified, guarded by Queen Veyra’s personal hand-picked cultivators—elite warriors all at the peak of the Vein Opening Realm, selected specifically for their absolute loyalty and their absolute silence.

They walked down the broad, carpeted hallway with a smooth, unhurried pace, entirely devoid of any fear of getting caught. Lucien took the lead, his footsteps light and silent against the floor. As the double doors of the King’s bedchamber drew closer, Zaria’s chest heaved with anxious breaths, her heart hammering against her ribs. Beside her, Vex’s pulse quickened too, her eyes darting nervously down the corridor.

Lucien’s heartbeat, however, didn’t change at all. It remained steady and calm.

Up ahead, eight heavily armed soldiers stood guard in the wide hallway. Lucien was still a considerable distance away, but he didn’t slow his pace or reach for a weapon. He simply kept walking forward.

Before the soldiers could even register the figures approaching in the dim lantern light, their knees buckled. One by one, the elite guards sloughed against the stone walls and collapsed onto the floor, completely unconscious. Lucien hadn’t killed them. Killing guards here would immediately raise questions, and questions led to palace-wide investigations, and investigations led to unwanted complications.

Instead, he had released a subtle astral energy of his abyss core realm—a quiet wave of force that snuffed out their conscious minds without leaving a single physical mark. The guards slumped where they stood, their eyes glazing over for a fraction of a second before they hit the carpeted stone. In the simplest terms, Lucien was so immensely powerful that he didn’t even need to lift a finger to deal with people at this level.

Zaria stared at the fallen guards, her mouth slightly open in complete disbelief. She looked from the unconscious men on the carpet back to Lucien’s unbothered back, her mind struggling to process how eight peak Vein Opening cultivators had been dropped in a single second without a sound, a strike, or even a ripple of visible aura. "You didn’t even touch them."

"I didn’t need to." Lucien stepped casually over a fallen guard’s legs, his face unreadable. "Their souls are weak. A gentle push was enough."

Vex dropped down beside one of the fallen men, her fingers pressing frantically against his neck to check his pulse. The man’s heart was beating steadily, but his eyes were rolled back, his body completely limp. "He’s alive. Just... empty."

"They will wake up in a few hours with a splitting headache and no memory of tonight," Lucien said, gesturing toward the massive, brass-reinforced doors at the far end of the corridor. "The King’s chambers."

Vex slowly pushed herself up from the floor, her eyes wide as she stared at Lucien in sheer terror and awe. The raw, effortless display of his strength made a cold shiver run straight down her spine. It was one thing to hear him speak with confidence, but seeing him render an entire squad of elite palace guards unconscious without moving a single muscle was almost terrifying. Yet, beneath that terror, Vex felt a strange, thrilling warmth blooming in her chest.

Her heart pounded heavily against her ribs as she looked at him, feeling an intense, magnetic attraction drawing her in. She had seen Zaria and Lucien kiss in the cellar days ago, but there wasn’t a trace of jealousy in her mind. Instead, a deep, overwhelming desire took root inside her—she wanted to become part of his world, to stand close to a man who possessed such undeniable, dangerous power.

The heavy wooden doors to the King’s room were sealed shut with multiple overlapping layers of wards. They were complex, intricate spiritual locks designed by an expert who understood spiritual architecture. Lucien stood before the grand entrance, studying the glowing lines of array light for a brief moment before raising his hand. He began dismantling the wards with surgical precision, his fingers tracing the invisible lines of power until every spell unraveled like loose thread pulled from a spool.

"Where did you learn to do that?" Zaria asked in a low whisper, watching the glowing runes fade into nothingness.

Lucien utilized his Law Breaker authority—a rare, incredible ability that could bypass and unlock almost any barrier or door in the entire realm, unless it was specifically bound by an overwhelming, divine force.

"It’s a skill I learned just for fun," Lucien replied casually as the heavy lock clicked open. "But it’s saved my life more times than I can count."

He pushed the massive doors open, and the three of them slipped inside. What awaited them inside was completely unexpected.

King Kavor lay in the center of a massive, grand bed, looking impossibly small, pale, and thin beneath heavy layers of embroidered silk blankets. His breathing was shallow and uneven, his face gaunt and sunken. He looked less like a ruling monarch and more like a fresh corpse that hadn’t quite stopped moving.

Zaria took a shaky step forward, her breath catching painfully in her throat. She had never seen her father look this weak, this broken.

"Father..." she whispered, her hands clenching into tight fists at her sides.

Lucien moved directly to the bedside, his dark eyes scanning the old man’s body with a cold, calculated assessment. He reached out and pressed two fingers firmly against the King’s frail wrist, channeling a thin, delicate stream of astral energy into his clogged meridians while activating his Divine Inspection to see precisely what was wrong inside his body.

"He’s been poisoned," Lucien declared after a long moment of quiet analysis. "Silent Sovereign. A rare, insidious toxin that slowly suppresses cultivation and induces deep lethargy. It doesn’t kill quickly—it just makes you forget you were ever powerful, while slowly suppressing your cultivation entirely, just like in your case."

Zaria’s fingernails bit into her palms. "The Queen."

"Yes. The dosage has been kept extremely precise. Someone has been feeding it to him in small amounts for years, just like they did to you." Lucien withdrew his fingers from the King’s wrist. "He was originally in the Spirit Forge Realm. The poison has suppressed his power down to almost nothing."

"Can you cure him?" Zaria asked, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and desperate hope.

"Yes." Lucien reached into his void storage space and produced a small glass vial filled with a glowing, crystal-clear liquid. "But it will be painful. And when he wakes up, he’s going to be very, very angry. Since he was already an established Realm Master—and a powerful one at that—he won’t need to go through three separate stages like you did. But it will hurt."

Vex leaned closer, curiosity overriding her unease. "Why?"

"In Zaria’s case, she had never experienced life as a Realm Master, so I had to break down the process into stages to safely unlock her Earth-Sovereign Physique," Lucien explained smoothly. "In his case, he has already lived as a Realm Master for decades. He has already opened his astral pool and established his core. I just need to purge the poison from his system, and his body will take care of the rest."

Lucien stepped closer to the head of the bed, uncorked the vial of Absolute Purification Elixir, and poured the clear liquid straight into the King’s pale lips, forcing him to swallow.

For three seconds, nothing happened. Then, King Kavor’s body violently convulsed.

The King writhed in agony across the grand bed, his limbs flailing as if his very bones were being consumed by fire. His back arched sharply off the mattress, the thick tendons standing out like iron cables against his neck. A raw, guttural sound tore from deep inside his throat—it wasn’t a scream of weakness, but something far primal. It was the sound of a dying man remembering what it felt like to be alive.

Zaria instinctively surged forward to hold him, but Lucien threw out his arm, catching her chest and holding her back.

"Don’t touch him," Lucien ordered coldly. "The poison is fighting back against the elixir. If you interfere now, you’ll disrupt the purification process and destroy his core."

The King’s suppressed aura flickered wildly around his body—a flame that had been smothered for so long it barely remembered how to burn. But slowly, agonizingly, the pressure began to expand. A pale, golden light bled through his skin, starting as a faint glow before bursting brighter and brighter. Cell by cell, year by year, the deep-seated toxin was being burned away by the primordial essence of the elixir.

The painful process lasted a full, grueling hour.

When the light finally died down, the King sank back against the pillows, lying completely still. His chest rose and fell in deep, steady rhythms, and a healthy color had returned to his pale cheeks. His aura, though weakened from years of dormancy, was steady, firm, and growing stronger by the minute.

Slowly, his heavy eyelids fluttered, and his eyes opened.

"Who..." The King’s voice was a dry, raspy scrape, barely audible in the quiet room. "Who are you?"

Lucien leaned back against one of the carved wooden bedposts, crossing his arms with a faint, confident smirk touching his lips. "Someone who just saved your life. You’re welcome."

King Kavor was a deeply shrewd, calculating ruler.

Even after enduring years of debilitating poison, his mind cleared rapidly once the toxin was purged from his blood. He sat up against the headboard and listened intently as Zaria explained everything that had transpired—Queen Veyra’s long-standing betrayal, the deliberate suppression of Zaria’s cultivation, the events at the Festival of Heavenly Ascension, and Lucien’s pivotal role in turning the tide. The King listened without uttering a single interruption, his dark eyes sharp and his expression entirely unreadable.

When Zaria finally finished speaking, the room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence.

"I’ll kill her," King Kavor said. His voice was flat, cold, and matter-of-fact. "I’ll kill her, I’ll kill my son, and I’ll execute every court official who helped them."

A deep, burning rage simmered beneath his words. He could not stomach the fact that the woman he had trusted above all others had spent years slowly turning him into a helpless puppet in his own palace.

"No," Lucien’s voice cut through the heavy atmosphere like a sharp blade. "You won’t."

The King’s sharp gaze snapped over to Lucien, his eyes narrowing dangerously. "You dare speak to me like that—"

"I dare because I am the sole reason you are sitting up and breathing right now," Lucien said, pushing off the bedpost and taking two slow, deliberate steps toward the bed. "And because I am the only one capable of protecting your daughter from the storm that is about to hit this kingdom. So sit there and listen carefully."

He stopped right at the foot of the bed, meeting the seasoned monarch’s intense gaze without a hint of flinching.

"You will name Zaria as your sole heir. Publicly. At the Council of Succession in three days," Lucien instructed clearly. "And you will officially grant her the right to choose her own personal advisors—completely free from the Queen’s influence or court oversight."

King Kavor’s jaw tightened, his fingers digging into the silk sheets. "And why should I trust a stranger like you?"

"Because I’m not asking for your throne," Lucien said, a faint smile spreading across his face. "I’m asking for access to the royal vaults, an official position as an honored advisor, and your absolute word that Zaria will rule this kingdom as she sees fit."

The King stared at him for a long moment. "That’s all?"

"That’s all."

King Kavor studied the young man standing before him. Deep in Lucien’s calm, dark eyes, the King saw something familiar—not trust, not righteousness, but pure, calculating ambition. He recognized a true predator when he saw one.

"What do you get out of this? Really?" the King asked quietly.

"Treasure. Power. Entertainment," Lucien replied with a light shrug. "The exact same things everyone in this palace wants. I’m just far more honest about it."

The King remained silent for several seconds, weighing his options in the quiet room. Then, very slowly, he gave a firm nod.

"Fine," Kavor said, his voice cold. "But if you betray her, I will kill you myself."

"You can try," Lucien smiled, his eyes gleaming with quiet amusement. "And trust me, I have a far better plan for your wife and son."
