Chapter 58: Chapter 58 The Drugged drink 1

Talia’s POV

The feast continued around me, but my mind was elsewhere.

Kaelen sat beside me, but he was in a deep conversation with Aldric. Their voices were low and serious, but I could hear them talking about something that had to do with pack borders, and something about alliances. But I did not listen to the details, because I was watching Vivienne, and trying to figure out her plans.

She was sitting at a table near the back with my father, Alpha Edmund by her side, who had not bothered to even look at me once since I entered the celebration hall. Vivienne was talking, with her arm linked through Celeste’s.

She began to laugh at something Celeste must have said, as her head tilted back, and her smile grew wide. But her eyes kept drifting to me, like she was watching and waiting for her perfect opportunity to strike.

My heart was pounding, and my hands were shaking from fear, but I pressed them flat against my thighs to calm them down.

A hand touched my shoulder, and I jumped. Then I looked back to see it was Nora.

"Luna." Nora’s voice was low, barely a whisper. "I need to speak with you. Privately."

I quickly turned and looked at Kaelen. He was still talking to Aldric, with his back half-turned to me, and he was so deep in the conversation that he was not paying attention to me anymore.

I nodded to Nora and slipped out of my chair.

Nora led me through the crowd. Wolves laughed and drank and danced around us, but no one paid attention, and no one watched us move away. Not even Vivienne and Celeste, because I made sure they did not see me leave my chair.

We stopped behind a large pillar near the back of the hall, where the shadows hid us from the rest of the room.

Piper was there, and there was a girl I had never seen, standing with her.

Piper moved to hug me, and I hugged her back quickly before pulling away to look at Nora. "What is happening?" I asked.

"Luna, this is my cousin Elara that I told you works here in Mooncrest Hall. She was the one I kept sending messages to," Nora said.

I nodded my head with understanding. "Nice to see you, Elara."

"My honor to see you too, Luna." Elara bowed.

I smiled brightly to her, and she smiled back with her bright dark eyes, and pretty face that had two deep dimples on each side.

I turned to face Piper and Nora. "So do you have any updates for me yet?"

Elara stepped forward, with her dark eyes that were sharp. "I heard Vivienne talking, Luna. She is going to put something in a drink, and give it to you."

My blood ran cold. "What kind of something?"

"It is something to make you drunk, to make you lose control, and to make you embarrass yourself in front of everyone." Elara’s voice was hard. "She wants to destroy you, Luna. In front of all the packs."

Piper grabbed my hands. "But we will not let her."

"How?" I asked.

Piper smiled. "I thought of an idea, Talia. We will switch the glasses and make her embarrass herself instead."

I stared at her. "What?"

"Let me explain, Talia. I noticed that the important guests were served drinks with golden glasses. Vivienne has a golden glass too, which is the same as yours, and I am sure she would bring the drink in a golden glass as well." Piper’s eyes were bright. "So if you switch them, she will not notice."

"How will I get to Vivienne’s glass, let alone switch the cups, when we are not sitting at the same table? And what if she does notice?" I asked.

"She will not." Piper squeezed my hands. "I will create a distraction, and when everyone is looking away, you switch the glasses."

My heart was pounding loudly. "What type of distraction, and what if I get caught?"

"You will not, and leave the details about the distraction to the three of us." Piper smiled. "I believe in you, and I need you to believe in us."

I took a deep breath. "Okay."

Nora nodded. "Go back to your seat for now, and wait for Vivienne to come to you. When she does, take the glass, but do not drink."

"I will not," I said.

Piper squeezed my hands one last time. "We are right here, and we are watching, and ready to act fast."

"Thank you all so much," I said, as tears filled my eyes, but I blinked them back.

Piper smiled and hugged me again. "That’s what friends are for." She pulled away. "Go back to your seat now, before Alpha Kaelen sends the search warriors to look for you."

We burst into laughter, then I nodded to all of them, before I turned and walked back to the main table.

When I got back, Kaelen was still talking to Aldric. He did not look at me when I sat down, and he did not ask where I had been, and I was very grateful.
