The Hidden Luna of Blackmoor Valley
Chapter 255 The Ashen Lands
Chapter 255: Chapter 255 The Ashen Lands
Talia’s POV
We stood at the edge of the Ashen Lands, and I felt the weight of everything pressing down on me.
The land ahead was darker than anything we had seen before.
I could feel the difference the moment my foot touched the ground. It was like stepping into a different world, one where hope went to die and darkness reigned supreme.
The trees were twisted and dead, their branches reaching toward the sky like grasping fingers. The ground was black and cracked, and the air was thick with magic.
I could taste it on my tongue, bitter and cold, like ash and iron. It coated my throat and made it hard to swallow.
It was suffocating, pressing against my skin like a second layer of darkness.
I looked at the group, and I knew this was the moment.
There was no more running, no more hiding, and no more pretending that we were just on a journey. This was the point of no return, and I could feel the weight of it pressing down on my shoulders.
We were about to cross into the heart of enemy territory.
"This is it," I said. "This is where we cross."
Kaelen stood beside me, his hand in mine. "Are you ready?"
I took a breath. "I have to be."
Piper stepped forward, her face pale.
I could see the fear in her eyes, and I knew she was trying to be brave. She always tried to be brave, even when she was falling apart inside.
"I am scared, Talia." She finally admitted.
I reached out and took her hand. "I know, Piper. So am I."
I squeezed her hand, and I felt her fingers tighten around mine. We were in this together, just like we had always been.
Jax let out a nervous laugh. "Great. We are all scared. That is comforting."
Silas shook his head. "Jax, not now."
"I am just saying," Jax said. "If we are going to walk into certain death, I want it on the record that I was brave."
Piper let out a small laugh, and I saw the tension in her shoulders ease just a little. Jax always knew how to lighten the mood, even in the darkest moments.
Cain did not speak. He just stepped forward and stood beside us.
I took a breath, and I stepped into the Ashen Lands.
The darkness closed in around me immediately.
I could feel it pressing against my skin, heavy and cold, like the weight of a thousand hands trying to push me back.
The magic was stronger here, pressing against my skin like a thousand tiny needles. I could feel Malachai’s presence, cold and watchful.
It was like being watched by something ancient and hungry. I could feel his eyes on me, even though I could not see him.
"It is stronger here," I said. "His magic, I can feel it more here."
Kaelen came closer to me. "Stay close to me, Talia. Do not wander."
I could feel the tension in his body, and the way his hand never left mine. He was ready for a fight, and ready to protect me from whatever came next.
Piper walked beside me. "Are you okay, Talia?"
Her voice was soft, and I could hear the worry in it. She was scared for me, scared for all of us.
I nodded. "I am okay. I just need to keep moving."
I forced myself to put one foot in front of the other, even though every step felt like walking through deep water.
Jax looked around at the twisted trees. "This place is worse than the last. I did not think that was possible."
I could see the unease in his eyes, and the way he kept glancing at the shadows. He was scared, even if he would never admit it.
We walked in silence for a while, and the darkness pressed down on us.
I could feel it in my lungs, in my bones, and in the way my heart seemed to beat slower with every step.
The magic was thick and suffocating, and I could feel it trying to push me back.
But I did not stop. My mother was caged somewhere in this land, so I could not stop.
I gripped my pendant, and I felt the warmth of it against my palm.
"This pendant is the only thing I have left of her, and the only physical proof that she existed and that she loved me, and I have held onto it through everything, through the years of hiding and running and pretending I was not who I really am," I said, my fingers curling around the warm metal. "And now, standing at the edge of this darkness, feeling her magic still pulsing through this land, I realize that this pendant was never just a keepsake, it was a promise. A reassuring promise that she would always be with me, that she would always guide me home, and that no matter how far I wandered or how lost I became, she would never let me go."
It was like a small flame in the darkness, and a reminder that I was not alone, that my mother was still out there, and that she was still fighting.
I was so close, and I could feel her.
"Kaelen," I said. "I can feel her. I can feel that my mother is out there, and she is alive."
He squeezed my hand. "We are going to find her."
His voice was firm, and I could feel the strength in his grip, giving me a silent assurance that he was not going to let me face this alone.
Piper nodded. "We are almost there, Talia. I can feel it too."
I looked at her, and I felt the tears prick at my eyes. She had been through so much, and she was still standing beside me.
Jax muttered something under his breath. "I hope she is worth all this trouble."
I almost laughed, but then something caught my eye. My heart stopped, and I felt the blood drain from my face.
I stopped walking, and my heart began to pound. In a dark tree, half-hidden in the shadows, there was writing, carved into the bark with what looked like dried blood.
The writing were Silvertongue symbols.
I walked closer, and I felt the cold settle into my bones. The symbols were old, worn by time and weather, but they were clear enough to read.
"She waits, She fades, She calls."
I stared at the words, and I felt the tears prick at my eyes.
"Talia," Kaelen said. "What is it?"
I pointed to the tree. "Look."
He followed my gaze, and I saw his jaw tighten. "What does it say?"
I read the words aloud. "She waits. She fades. She calls."
Piper’s voice was barely a whisper. "Your mother?"
I nodded. "She is telling me she is still here. Still waiting."
Jax stepped forward. "Is that a good sign?"
Silas shook his head. "It is a message, and a warning. Malachai knows we are coming."
I looked at the tree, and I felt the hope rising in my chest. My mother was still alive, she was still fighting, and she was calling out to me.
"She is still alive," I said. "She is still waiting for me."
Kaelen took my hand. "Then we keep going."
I nodded, and I gripped my pendant. Then we continued forward, into the darkness.
My mother was out there, and I was coming for her.
