The Hidden Luna of Blackmoor Valley
Chapter 245 The Ruins
Chapter 245: Chapter 245 The Ruins
Talia’s POV
The trail led us deeper into the forest, and the trees began to change.
They were charred, and blackened by fire, with their branches reaching toward the sky like grasping fingers.
I could feel the heat of the fire that had once raged here, even though it had been years since the flames died. The memory of it was burned into the land itself, like a scar that would never fully heal.
The ground was dark and ash-covered, and the air smelled of smoke and old death.
We rode in silence, with my eyes fixed on the path ahead. My heart was pounding, and my hands were shaking, and I knew that whatever we were about to find, would not be good.
Jax broke the silence. "What happened here?"
Kaelen’s jaw tightened. "Fire. A lot of it."
Silas shook his head. "It was not an accident. You can see the pattern, this was deliberate."
Piper’s voice was soft. "This really looks like a fire. A bad one."
Silas nodded. "But it was a long time ago, because the trees are growing back."
Kaelen rode beside me. "Are you okay?"
I shook my head. "I do not know."
We finally broke through the trees, and then, I saw it fully.
It was a village that was in ruins. The buildings were crumbling, and the wood was blackened by fire. The roofs had collapsed, and the walls were falling. The village was utterly dead, silent, and empty.
I dismounted before anyone could stop me, and my feet carried me forward, and I walked into the ruins.
I heard Kaelen call my name, but I could not stop, and I could not turn back. My feet were moving on their own, pulling me toward the heart of the village, toward the place where my ancestors had fallen.
"Talia," Kaelen called. "Wait."
I did not stop, because I was being drawn by some unseen force to be closer.
I walked through the village, with my hands trailing over the charred wood.
The wood crumbled beneath my fingers, and I could smell the ash and the dust. I could feel the weight of the years pressing down on me, and I knew that this place had been waiting for me to find it.
I saw the remains of homes, the ashes of a life that was destroyed, and I felt the weight of the loss pressing down on me.
Piper appeared beside me. "This is it, is not it? This is the village."
I nodded slowly, with eyes still fixed on the ruins. "This is it. I can feel them, and I can feel their presence." I looked around slowly. "This is where my mother’s people lived. This is where they died."
My mother had told me stories about this place when I was young. She had described it as a home, a sanctuary, and a place where Silvertongues could live without fear. And now, I was standing at the edge of its grave.
Piper’s voice was soft. "They are all gone, Talia. Oh moon goddess, I am so cold."
Kaelen walked to me. "Talia, be careful."
"I am fine," I said. "I just need to see."
I walked deeper into the ruins, and I felt the grief rising in my chest.
I could see the shapes of the homes, the outlines of the walls that had once held families, laughter, and love. But now, they were nothing but shadows and ashes.
These were the places that my ancestors lived. This was their home, and it was all destroyed.
Piper walked beside me. "They survived, Talia. Your mother survived." Piper’s voice grew softer. "They are gone, Talia. But you are here, and you are carrying their legacy."
I felt the tears prick at my eyes. "She did. She survived, and she kept fighting. She never gave up, even when everything was taken from her."
Piper squeezed my hand. "And neither will you."
I nodded. "My mother did. She survived, and she kept fighting, and so will i."
Jax stood at the edge of the village, with his voice low. "This is... I do not have words."
I heard the pain in his voice, and I knew he was thinking about his own pack, and his own losses. He understood what it meant to lose a home.
Silas was quiet. "It is a tragedy."
Cain said nothing, he just stood watch.
I walked to the center of the village, and I felt another pull, like something was calling me.
It was like a thread pulling me forward, and guiding me through all of the ruins. I followed it, as my feet moved on their own, until I reached the center of the village.
I stopped, and I closed my eyes. I felt my mother’s presence again here, and it was stronger here.
"What is it?" Kaelen asked.
I opened my eyes. "She was here. My mother was here, Kaelen."
I could see it clearly now, i could see a vision of her standing in this spot, with her head held high, and her eyes filled with determination. She had been strong, even when everything was falling apart around her.
Piper smiled. "That means we are on the right path."
Jax nodded. "We are getting closer."
I looked at the ruins, and I felt the anger and grief mixing together.
I could feel the rage building in my chest, hot and sharp. Whoever had done this, had destroyed everything. They had taken lives, erased a legacy, and burned a lot of homes to the ground.
My ancestors died here, their home was destroyed, but my mother survived.
I looked at Kaelen, and I saw the understanding in his eyes. He knew what this meant to me, and he knew that I was not just fighting for my mother now, I was fighting for every Silvertongue who had been silenced.
"She survived, and she kept fighting." I whispered to no one in particular.
I gripped my pendant, and I made a promise. I will not let their sacrifice be in vain. I will find my mother, and I will bring her home.
Kaelen stood beside me. "We will finish this, Talia."
Piper took my hand. "We are with you."
Jax nodded. "All the way."
I looked at each of them, one by one. Kaelen, with his steady gaze and his unwavering love, Piper, with her bright smile and her endless hope, Jax, with his loyalty disguised as humor, Silas, with his quiet strength, and Cain, with his silent vigilance.
They were my pack, and my family, and they would not leave me.
I looked at the ruins one last time, and I felt the hope rising in my chest. My ancestors were gone, but my mother was still out there.
She was still fighting to stay alive, and I was coming for her.
