Chapter 398: 398: This is My Wife
Chapter 398: Chapter 398: This is My Wife
Ji Qiurong shivered!
She then spoke seriously, “Boss, you’re about to get engaged soon. Why is Chairman Pei still with another woman? I heard it myself—she doesn’t have the surname Pei, isn’t your sister, and definitely isn’t from the Pei Family!”
“Boss, you absolutely can’t let him fool you!”
Ji Qiurong was almost in tears.
Ye Yi’s sales this quarter were obviously fantastic!
Could it be that there’s something wrong with the Shen Family?
Are they going bankrupt?
Has their boss stooped to selling herself and her marriage just to save the family?
A storm of thoughts overwhelmed Ji Qiurong, nearly scaring herself to death.
“Boss, you can’t compromise yourself like this. If the Shen Family really is going bankrupt, you still have Ye Yi! Worst case, we’ll just run away!”
It’s just that their boss is way too kind-hearted—even in such circumstances, running away hadn’t crossed her mind.
“Boss, I’m so heartbroken for you, I could cry to death!”
“…Send me the address. I’ll be there immediately. You’d best wash your neck and wait for me.”
Ji Qiurong sneezed several times in quick succession.
Twenty minutes later, Qingwu nudged Ji Qiurong, who was squatting in a corner.
“I told you to keep watch, not to pretend to be a rat. So, where’s the person you were talking about?”
Ji Qiurong clutched her backside and pointed not far away.
The harbor held several docked ferries, with special personnel guarding the cloth shipment Ye Yi had ordered.
Ji Qiurong explained, “I wasn’t at ease about the shipment, so I came to check, but they still haven’t delivered it. I don’t know what’s going on.”
High-end custom fabrics ordered from overseas all undergo strict quality assurance procedures.
Now that they’d passed inspection, they were being held at the port instead of being released!
“Boss, look at those kids over there—they’ve been loitering around here for a while, and they don’t look like children of local fishermen.”
A few children, all seemingly around the age of ten, were running back and forth near the crates containing the fabrics.
Qingwu’s gaze locked on the foremost child!
With just one glance, she recognized him—it was the child who had previously appeared with Wen Youjie at the hotel. Qingwu’s eyes turned cold.
The assassin’s instinct in Qingwu made her overly cautious toward such children!
After some investigation, Qingwu also discovered that Zhang Guoming’s past girlfriends had all vanished under suspicious circumstances. Surface-level appearances suggested they had broken up with him.
They were merely undesirable lovers, and no one paid attention to their fates.
But Qingwu understood that this child was definitely no ordinary kid!
“Boss, isn’t that your man?”
Ji Qiurong almost pursed one side of her lips into a crooked smile.
Following Ji Qiurong’s gaze, they saw a tall, imposing figure of a man standing on the dock. Waves crashed against the rocks, sending up layer upon layer of spray.
Yet, the man remained steadfast. A few children descended from a ferry and affectionately clung to Pei Jue’s pant leg.
An elegantly dressed woman followed them off the boat. Ji Qiurong asked in confusion, “Hey, wasn’t it someone else earlier?”
“Boss, does your man have several girlfriends, along with a bunch of kids?”
Qingwu cast him a frosty glance. “We’ll find out when we go check it out.”
Ji Qiurong immediately gave Qingwu a thumbs-up!
As expected of their boss—bold enough to march straight into such a situation!
“A true warrior dares to confront the bleakness of life and question a cheating man to his face!”
Qingwu cracked her knuckles and turned her emotionless gaze toward him. “If you have so much free time, and there’s a problem with this fabric shipment, I’ll dock it from your salary.”
This shipment of fabric would amount to half a year’s wages for Ji Qiurong!
“No way, Boss!”
Suppressing the urge to beat up her employee on the spot, Qingwu withdrew her gaze.
She lifted her foot and began walking towards the dock, the sea breeze lifting the hem of her skirt. The playful flutter of her skirt carried an air of carefree elegance.
The children clinging to Pei Jue’s pant legs widened their eyes when they saw Qingwu.
“Uncle, look! There’s a pretty lady over there!”
“She’s like a fairy!”
Pei Jue’s gaze fell on Qingwu, a hint of surprise and delight crossing his expression. He patted the child beside him on the head.
With a tender, affectionate expression, Pei Jue corrected them, “That’s your aunt, not a fairy. Calling her a ‘fairy’ messes up the family hierarchy.”
Qingwu raised an eyebrow and smiled.
“Someone told me you already have kids. I figured I had to come check it out for myself.”
The woman next to Pei Jue immediately explained, “Ms. Shen, this is a misunderstanding. I’m Ah Jue’s cousin’s wife. These are my children, and we came especially for your engagement banquet with Ah Jue.”
“There’s no misunderstanding.”
The only ones Pei Jue would personally welcome would be Du Shu’s grandchildren. The two women Ji Qiurong saw earlier were likely Du Shu’s daughters-in-law.
Behind her, Ji Qiurong stared, wide-eyed!
“…Huh?”
So it turns out he had gotten it wrong?
They really were members of the Pei Family!
The three children had come back this time to visit Elder Pei, who was gravely ill.
Elder Pei had only these few great-grandchildren, and typically they didn’t live in the country.
Now, with his final days near, the children were the ones he most wished to see!
The youngest great-grandchild in the Pei Family, just five years old, dashed forward and hugged Qingwu’s leg. His big eyes sparkled brightly.
Speaking in his soft, childish voice, he said, “Auntie, carry me!”
Pei Jue bent down to pick him up. “You little rascal, this is my wife. If you want her to carry you, go find yourself a wife in the future.”
“Uncle, you’re so shameless! I’m only five years old! You’re being a bully! The TV says you’ve got psychological issues for being jealous of a little baby!”
Qingwu found the comment amusing and reached out to pinch the child’s chubby cheek.
“Why are you here? The wind at the dock is strong, and you didn’t even wear something warmer.”
“Didn’t I say I came to catch you?”
Pei Jue chuckled, his gaze resting on Qingwu the entire time, his eyes full of trust as he slowly shook his head.
“You wouldn’t. Qingwu isn’t that impulsive, and I’m not that untrustworthy.”
“Oh, so confident now?”
“It’s faith in you. And faith in your choice to trust me.”
Ji Qiurong slapped her forehead and shoved her phone in Qingwu’s direction. “Boss, those kids sneaked into our warehouse!”
He had suspected the little rascals were up to no good!
The dock’s manager came running over, sweat beading on his forehead.
“Are you the person responsible for Ye Yi? Some kids say their friend is locked up inside your warehouse!”
Qingwu slightly frowned. “The fabrics delivered to customs today have already been inspected. Why are they being held?”
“There was a report alleging issues with the shipment! We will also need you to come with us!”
“If there’s an issue, why not directly alert Ye Yi? What’s the reason for the report, and what’s the procedure for detaining the goods?”
The staff member immediately seemed annoyed.
“I already told you there’s a problem. Just come with us and see for yourself! What’s with the arrogance? You’re just selling clothes—don’t think you’re some kind of artist!”
Qingwu stared calmly at the personnel, extending her hand.
“Your ID, please. How do I verify who you are? It’s not appropriate to ask me to just follow you without proof.”
“I’m wearing a uniform, isn’t that enough? Do you even want your shipment back?”
Qingwu met his gaze coolly for a moment. “Fine, I’ll go with you.”
The child in Pei Jue’s arms immediately leaned over and clung to Qingwu’s hand. “I’m coming too! I’m coming too!”
“Uncle, you have to come too! Don’t let Auntie get bullied!”
