Chapter 92: Old-Fashioned
Chapter 92: Old-Fashioned
It wasn’t long before hurried footsteps echoed down the hospital hallway.
The door burst open.
"Chi Lingxi!"
Her parents rushed inside, their faces filled with worry.
The moment Chi Lingxi saw them...
The fear she had been holding back finally surfaced.
Tears welled up in her eyes.
"Mom... Dad..."
She hurried over and threw herself into their embrace.
"I was so scared..."
Her mother immediately hugged her tightly, gently stroking her hair.
"It’s alright... It’s over now. We’re here."
Her father silently placed a hand on her shoulder, relief washing across his face.
Standing slightly behind them...
Her grandfather had been wearing a deep frown.
But then...
His eyes landed on Shen Tian.
His expression immediately changed.
His eyes widened.
Shen Tian blinked.
Then he laughed.
"Ah! You’re the old man I met in the park!"
Everyone turned toward him.
The old man burst into hearty laughter.
"Hahaha! Young man! What are you doing here?"
He strode over with a huge smile on his face.
Before Shen Tian could answer...
Chi Lingxi spoke first.
"Grandpa, he’s the one who saved me from those kidnappers."
The old man’s smile became even wider.
"Oh? Oh! Oh ho ho ho!"
He laughed so loudly that even people outside the room probably heard him.
With one swift motion, he wrapped an arm around Shen Tian’s shoulders.
"Young man! Do you remember what I told you the last time we met?"
Shen Tian thought back for a moment.
Then nodded.
"I do."
The old man slapped him on the shoulder.
"Excellent!"
He proudly pointed toward his daughter and granddaughter.
"Then I’ll keep my word! You can have them both!"
The entire room fell silent.
Chi Lingxi froze.
Her mother froze.
Even Shen Tian was momentarily speechless.
A second later...
"Grandpa!"
Chi Lingxi’s face turned bright red.
"Dad!"
Her mother looked equally embarrassed.
The two women immediately grabbed the old man by both arms and started dragging him toward the door.
"Young Master Shen! We’re so sorry!"
"Please don’t mind him!"
"He always talks like this!"
The old man continued protesting as they pulled him away.
"What? I’m serious! In my day, this was completely normal! You two girls don’t understand!"
Chi Lingxi’s father quietly stood there with an awkward smile.
He scratched the back of his head.
"...Please forgive him. He’s... a little old-fashioned."
Shen Tian simply smiled and waved it off.
"Don’t worry about it. I thought he was pretty entertaining."
Outside the room, the old man could still be heard loudly protesting as he was dragged farther down the hallway.
"I wasn’t joking! You’re all too shy nowadays!"
His voice gradually faded into the distance.
A moment later...
Chi Lingxi and her mother returned, both still visibly embarrassed.
Her mother cleared her throat before speaking.
"Young Master Shen... We’d like to thank you properly. Our family runs a small sidewalk restaurant. If you don’t mind... we’d love to treat you to dinner."
She hesitated for a moment.
"Although... someone of your status probably isn’t used to eating at a place like ours..."
Before she could finish...
Shen Tian shook his head.
"I’d love to eat there. My status doesn’t stop me from enjoying good street food."
He smiled warmly.
"In fact, I think some of the best food is found in places exactly like yours."
Both women blinked.
They hadn’t expected that answer.
Then Shen Tian glanced down at his clothes.
"Although... I’d like to head home first and clean up."
He brushed some dust off his sleeve.
There were still faint stains of fake blood on his shirt, along with dirt, cobwebs, and dust from the warehouse.
"I don’t think I’d make a very good dinner guest looking like this."
Chi Lingxi’s mother immediately nodded.
"Of course! We’re on Liberation Street. Come whenever you’re ready. We’ll prepare a proper feast for you!"
Shen Tian smiled.
"I’ll be there."
He gave the family a small wave.
"See you all later."
With that, he turned and left the room.
Once the door closed...
Chi Lingxi’s mother looked toward her daughter with a knowing smile.
"He really is a wonderful man."
She nudged her daughter with her elbow.
"If you want to pursue him, your mother fully supports—"
"Mom!"
Chi Lingxi interrupted immediately.
Her face flushed bright red.
"I don’t have a crush on him! He’s just..."
She hesitated.
"A really good person."
She quickly looked away, placing a hand over her chest.
For some reason...
Her heartbeat had become much faster than usual.
She quietly turned toward the window, pretending to admire the view outside.
Her mother simply smiled.
She had raised her daughter.
She knew exactly what that expression meant.
But...
She decided not to tease her anymore.
. . .
As the elevator arrived on the first floor.
The doors slid open...
Shen Tian stepped into the hallway.
Before he could take another step...
He froze.
Standing outside were all the children from the pediatric ward.
Every single one of them was armed with an oversized water gun.
A little girl raised hers into the air.
"Ready!"
Another boy pointed at Shen Tian.
"Aim!"
Then all the children shouted together:
"Fire!"
Splash! Splash! Splash!
Streams of water flew toward Shen Tian from every direction.
Within seconds, he was completely soaked.
Shen Tian burst into laughter.
"You little troublemakers!"
He immediately sprinted out of the elevator.
"Get him!"
The children gave chase, laughing all the way down the hallway.
Shen Tian dove behind a row of waiting-room chairs.
Peeking over them, his eyes suddenly landed on a small side table.
Sitting there...
Was another giant water gun.
His eyes lit up.
"Oh? Well, well, well..."
He lunged forward and snatched it up.
The children gasped.
"He got one!"
Shen Tian grinned.
"My turn! I’m returning fire!"
Splash! Splash! Splash!
He sprayed water everywhere.
The children squealed as they scattered in every direction, laughing hysterically while trying to dodge the attack.
The hallway instantly turned into a miniature battlefield.
Doctors and nurses walking by couldn’t help but laugh at the sight.
Shen Tian wore a victorious grin.
"I’ve won!"
Then...
"Hands up, Big Brother!"
A childish voice called out from behind him.
Shen Tian slowly turned around...
Only to freeze again.
A young boy sitting in a wheelchair was aiming an enormous LMG-style water gun directly at him.
Shen Tian immediately raised both hands.
"Whoa! Don’t shoot! I surrender!"
The boy smiled proudly.
He yelled:
"Fire!"
The giant water gun roared to life.
SPLOOSH!
At the same time...
All the other children reappeared from their hiding spots.
"Attack!"
Water blasted toward Shen Tian from every direction.
Unable to escape, Shen Tian fell backward onto the floor.
"Ah! I surrender! I surrender!"
The children charged him all at once.
Within seconds, they had piled on top of him in a mountain of giggling kids.
Shen Tian laughed just as hard as they did.
Unbeknownst to everyone, the old man had been quietly watching the entire scene from a distance.
A satisfied smile slowly spread across his face.
"He really is perfect! For my daughter... And my granddaughter! I’m not the crazy one! They just don’t see gold!"
