The heroes want to kill me
Chapter 61: The surprised pit
Tendons and large vein blood cells could be seen growing on Void Starr’s face and body, although it wasn’t as worse as the one from Lightstorm’s head.
She looked at Lupingo and saw that he didn’t have any change in expression, like he was just saying what comes to mind without even realizing the harm the words could cause. Although his face is covered by that mask that keeps changing.
She was sure that the last time she saw the mask on the news, that it was different. Different from the last one.
Lupingo looked at them. He saw that they are at the point of exploding in a literal manner, and he can’t allow that to happen to his crush and his MC. That won’t look proper for the story at all. He felt that if he did not say something, that they would explode and brutalize him instead. So he quickly talked.
"I know. I understand why you are angry. But the problem here is that you don’t fully know your hero at all, or you know your hero’s deeds and choose to pretend otherwise. I don’t know who truly spread the news that I don’t kill innocents, so now we are going to assume based on that information. Why would someone who doesn’t kill the innocent kill a hero? Don’t you think something doesn’t add up, that the equations are not matching?"
I looked at them to see if they are both understanding my point, but all I could see on their faces is impatience. They weren’t being patient at all, and the expression they were sending to me said it all. The expression was saying something like, "You have ten seconds to talk. 10, 6, 3, 1." That kind of impatient to miss some good numbers.
"I know that it’s not in my right to kill a villain. I know that it’s a hero’s job to decide that. But I wasn’t really given that option. Your hero imposed on me, and I then privately decided to give him a permanent sanctioning. You know, I said something about you guys not truly knowing the guy. You guys don’t know the deeds of the guy. But I expected more from you. After all, you are called the Heroes Association."
That’s what I said to them, but my actual thought was different. It is not like the Incorporeal Hero carried a tag that says, ’Hey, I am a villain in a hero disguise. Notice me.’ What I am trying to say was that his disguise was just too good. If I wasn’t knowledgeable about the plot and of his true character, I too would be in the dark about his actual character too.
"You are just beating around the bush. But you are right about one thing: we are the heroes here, not you. So why would you do that action, even if he’s a villain in disguise? Tell us what we want to hear, or you would die here," Lightstorm said.
And Void Starr nodded along with him.
"I understand your point of view and all your questions, Mr. Lightstorm and Miss Void Starr. Although I have exposed the secret of his actions to the people in your surroundings already, they are the only ones that know so far. Are you sure you are ready for me to spread more of the information worldwide? It could possibly damage you heroes’ reputation," I said to them.
I was saying all this to them to try to discourage them. So now I am threatening them to drop it and just try to cover it up. After all, they won’t want their reputation to be damaged.
"What are you saying? Why would it damage more? And even if it damages, villains like you will benefit from it. And even with that, the only people that know whatever you are saying are in our present surroundings, so the information can’t spread."
"Who said I have not posted this thing somewhere, to be released to the public at a particular time? After all, you yourself said it. You said if the content on why I killed the Incorporeal Hero was to be released, that it would only benefit us villains."
"You are bluffing. Even if you are not, we can truly dispute the evidence. We can claim that it’s AI video content. We can call it fake. As for those that know now, well, it’s better if I don’t say." Lightstorm said angrily, unknowingly exposing the deed of what they can do to keep their reputation clean.
I guess he forgot about the citizens around us. But they did not forget him, and they have sharp ears, so they clearly heard what he said.
"What? What did he say? Did he just say what I believe I heard?"
"That’s not important. What is important is that word he said, ’it’s better if I don’t say.’ What does it mean? What is the word he doesn’t want to say?"
"Are we safe? I think I should be leaving now."
All of a sudden, different voices could be heard in the background. People that were quietly watching before have now been dragged into the conversation. And they won’t be quiet until they feel safe.
I could hear their voices.
I could smell the drama brewing. It smelled alluring, but I just don’t have popcorn to enjoy the drama with.
And I don’t think that I would be able to stay till the end without any popcorn.
People may call me demonic, or evil, but I am just someone who feels bored most times. So is it wrong to be receiving joy from the other person, even if it’s at the cost of their misery?
(Someone coughed from somewhere and said, ’Sadist.’)
My thought did not stop my surroundings.
"We saw the truth, and he’s saying that they can twist the truth to lie. That’s not good at all. It’s wrong."
"Yes, it’s wrong. We don’t agree with this at all."
"Yes, we don’t agree at all. We will expose the truth to the world to say."
"We will do that."
"You guys shut up. Are you guys crazy? Don’t you have a little bit of sense, or is it that you don’t realize what you are saying?"
"What are you saying, lady? Shouldn’t we fight for the truth? We can’t let the truth be oppressed by the powerful. We will talk. We will say our word out."
"Who said you shouldn’t spread the word out? I am just trying to say that you should think before you talk."
"Lady, say what you want to say. If you don’t talk, I am going to think you are with that Incorporeal Hero."
"You are so hopeless. I will explain. The hero Lightstorm said they will cover up the truth, and you are saying you want to expose it. You know there will be a serious repercussion for that word. How are we sure that the Incorporeal Hero was the only one who is bad? They can kidnap you from your house and sell your organs to traffickers."
"..."
"Damn, I think my phone is ringing. Hello? Yes, I am coming now. Yes, f—"
"I just remembered that I left the gas on."
People began to leave. Some were making excuses, while some left and tried to cover their faces. They were running like they were being chased.
I, who was watching the drama, only have one word to describe it. And I will just say they are interesting if I am asked what I think about them.
At least it was interesting until that killjoy brought them back to reality. Now they are leaving one by one, and almost half of them are gone. They remain half in number, a very small amount when they weren’t even plenty in the beginning to begin with.
I was enjoying the conversations and situation because it was alleviating my boredom, but some weren’t.
Void Starr and Lightstorm’s expressions just kept changing to different expressions. It was like all those quick slideshows in fast mode.
I don’t know. Maybe the reasons are the same or not, but I know one thing for sure: Void Starr was feeling the heat of the chaos, all because of her partner Lightstorm.
I wasn’t receiving any blame at all. The heroes are the ones catching the blame, and it was all because of the words that came out from my MC’s mouth. I guess I am safe all because I showed them the thrill of killing a hero.
But even though the scene is interesting, I can’t just let Void Starr be feeling the heat. The rest of the heroes could burn for all I care, but I must raise Void Starr’s image in their eyes. My MC’s image is being ruined now, but he dragged all the heroes down also with him.
So I must pull her out from the pit she found herself in.
The pit that was made because of our MC.
