The Hero Given to the Demon Queen
Chapter 25: Report to the Divine
The realm of the Goddess was not a place of stone or sky.
It was an endless expanse of soft, luminous cloud, folded into gentle chambers and open courts of light. The air itself carried a faint, constant hum—the gathered weight of countless prayers rising from the mortal world. Light did not fall from above; it simply existed, warm and pure, without source or shadow.
At the center of one such court sat the Goddess.
She was beautiful in a way that made ordinary language feel inadequate. Long white hair spilled around her like fresh snow under sunlight. Her features were perfect, ageless, and calm. Her eyes held a quiet, shifting radiance—neither fully gold nor silver, but something between the two that caught the light whenever she moved. She did not need to raise her voice or gesture to command the space. The realm itself seemed to lean toward her.
Archangel Amara approached with measured steps. Her white wings were folded tightly against her back. When she reached the proper distance she sank to one knee, head bowed, one hand pressed to her chest.
“Your Holiness. As you commanded, I descended and erased the ash rains. They proved insignificant.”
The Goddess’s lips curved in a faint, knowing smile. Her eyes narrowed slightly with amusement and something warmer.
“I am… quite full today, Amara. The prayers are pouring in. What exactly did you do down there that pleased me so much?”
Amara kept her gaze lowered.
“I performed only the task you gave me, Your Holiness. The humans still believe. Simply seeing your light was enough for them.”
The Goddess laughed softly—a sound like distant bells.
“You need not be so modest, my dear. That humility of yours can be maddening… yet today I find it charming. You carried out my will properly. I felt that demon whore’s fear even from here. Merely your presence was enough to unsettle her. Imagine what would happen if I myself could descend.” She paused, the smile fading a fraction. “But the mortal world cannot bear my full presence. I cannot go.”
She extended one elegant hand.
“Come closer.”
Amara hesitated only a moment before rising and stepping forward. She sank to her knees again at the Goddess’s feet.
“Your Holiness…”
“Onto my lap.”
A visible flush rose across the Archangel’s perfect cheeks.
“I would not dare. I would defile you.”
The Goddess leaned down, white hair spilling like a curtain, and cupped Amara’s face with both hands. Her voice was gentle, almost fond.
“When I created you, I placed a piece of myself inside you. You are the closest thing to me that exists. Never speak of defilement again.”
Amara’s breath caught. “Forgive me. I misspoke.”
“Shhh. I am not angry.” The Goddess drew her up with effortless strength and settled the Archangel across her lap as though she weighed nothing. Her arms closed around Amara’s waist, holding her securely. “I have desires of my own, you know. But they are not what you imagine. What draws me is faith. Devotion. The way you look at me. That is what stirs me.”
Amara’s face burned. She could not meet those radiant eyes.
“Your Holiness… you embarrass me.”
The Goddess’s fingers traced slow, idle patterns along the Archangel’s side, over the smooth armor and the softer places beneath.
“I gave you desires as well when I shaped you. So tell me truly—do you desire me?”
Amara’s voice came out small and trembling.
“I… I believe in you.”
“That is not what I asked. Do not be afraid. Speak.”
A long, painful silence. Then, barely audible:
“I desire every part of you, Your Holiness.”
The Goddess’s laugh this time was richer, pleased. Her eyes half-lidded.
“Then continue to please me, and I will reward you further. Who knows? Perhaps one day you will even be permitted into my private chambers.”
Amara’s wings gave a tiny, involuntary shiver. She looked half-dazed with a mixture of shame and longing.
The Goddess’s expression shifted, becoming more thoughtful.
“And the hero? What is she doing?”
Amara immediately slid from the Goddess’s lap and returned to one knee, posture perfect once more.
“Your Holiness. The hero has been taken by the demons. It is likely she is being violated. I did not approach because you gave no such order.”
The Goddess’s brow furrowed. A flicker of genuine irritation crossed her perfect face.
“Why has she stopped pleading with me? I can barely feel her faith anymore. Has she begun to enjoy the violation? Or has that little bitch simply given up on me?” Her voice cooled. “In the beginning she begged like a dog. Her belief fed me. Now there is almost nothing.”
Amara lifted her head slightly. “If that is the case, Your Holiness, grant me leave and I will bring you her skin.”
“No.” The Goddess waved one hand dismissively. “Not yet. That whore Lilith may still be beyond your strength alone. I need more prayers first. The hero is not giving me what I require.” She tilted her head. “Now give me a proper report on those ash rains. They were the demon’s doing, were they not?”
“Your Holiness, I believe she was attempting to play games with us. I taught her the necessary lesson and returned. There is no more ash.”
The Goddess regarded her for a long moment, then nodded once.
“You expended a great deal of power destroying those clouds. Rest. I have plans of my own. Be ready when I call.”
Amara bowed deeply, wings spreading slightly in formal respect.
“As you command, Your Holiness.”
She rose, took three backward steps, then turned and left the luminous court. The soft hum of countless prayers continued without pause, feeding the calm, radiant figure who remained seated among the clouds, already turning her thoughts toward whatever came next.
