The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered
Chapter 263 - 262: Your College Admission Notice is Here
Lynn White acted as if she hadn’t noticed his unease and calmly changed the subject.
"I missed you, so I came back. Don’t worry about me, I’ve already eaten. You eat up now. I’m going to have the driver unload the truck."
With that, she opened the main gate wide and had the truck driver start helping to move everything into the house.
Ethan Bishop stared at the truck bed full of groceries and the two whole pigs being carried through the door. How could he possibly have any appetite to eat?
"Kiddo, what’s all this? Why did you buy two whole pigs, and so many groceries?"
"This is for the banquet tomorrow. I have some good news to announce. Wait until I’m done here, and I’ll tell you."
Lynn White pulled him inside and pushed him back down at the dining table.
After the driver finished unloading, Lynn White thanked him, transferred him a little extra for his trouble, and watched him leave.
When she returned to the table, she found that Ethan Bishop’s expression hadn’t relaxed at all. In fact, it had grown even more serious.
"What good news? What banquet? You’re not... seeing someone, are you? Where are they from? How old? What do they do? Are they a good person? Why didn’t they come back with you? Do they look down on our family?"
"No... Uncle, what’s this about seeing someone? There’s nothing like that!"
Lynn White took a brand-new acceptance letter out of her bag and handed it to him with a mysterious look.
"Classmate Ethan Bishop, your college entrance exam acceptance letter has arrived!"
That day, she had left the Kingsland Central Bureau immediately after giving her statement, without sparing that scumbag Kevin Clark another glance.
Kingsland University and the Department of Education had also acted quickly, investigating and clarifying everything in just over a week.
After more than twenty years, everyone involved in the identity theft case who wasn’t already six feet under had been brought to justice.
Elder Hawthorne had also respected Lynn White’s wishes and hadn’t contacted Ethan Bishop directly, instead sending the acceptance letter to Lynn.
He also promised that if Ethan Bishop was willing, he could enroll this September as a freshman.
Furthermore, because Kevin Clark was also implicated in the murder of his first wife, the news about this matter was temporarily suppressed. It would be released to the public along with the results of that case.
Then there was the matter of the company. The billion-plus deal Kevin Clark had boasted about at Kingsland University was actually just a bogus offer Lynn White had arranged for someone to give him.
And just as Yvonne Lowell had predicted, the very next day, all of his business partners simultaneously moved to terminate their contracts, willing to pay the breach penalties.
But those penalties weren’t even enough to cover the company’s debts. The capital chain snapped, and most of the assets under Kevin Clark’s name were seized to pay off bank loans.
The company was already empty of employees. They had all taken their severance packages—N+1 plus an additional six months’ salary—and left to enjoy themselves, with no one giving the company a second thought.
By the time the company went bankrupt, the only person who might have cared was still "having tea" at the Kingsland Central Bureau, his 48-hour summons period not yet over.
Fortunately, that trash Kevin Clark hadn’t engaged in tax evasion (probably because he wasn’t making much money to begin with, so the tax liability wasn’t high). Otherwise, since she also worked at the company, she would have been considered an accomplice and would have gone down with him.
Over the past two-plus years, Lynn White had managed to pluck a few feathers from that cheapskate Clark—it was the salary she deserved for playing along with his act, compensation for her wasted youth and emotional distress.
Combined with her own savings, her personal assets now totaled around five million.
Other than that, she hadn’t transferred any other funds beforehand.
After all, taking too much dirty money can lead to an early grave. She only took what was rightfully hers.
Lynn White had stayed in Kingsland for those few days, hiring a top-tier lawyer to consult on the possibility of a litigated divorce.
But she wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination; her divorce proceedings went incredibly smoothly, and she ended up being the primary beneficiary in the division of assets.
When she received the divorce certificate, Lynn White looked at her lawyer in disbelief. It had all happened so fast.
The divorce lawyer gave her a gentle smile. "It’s all what you deserve."
With that, she said her goodbyes and left.
Back in the present.
Ethan Bishop stared at the familiar design of the acceptance letter before him, a style he had paid special attention to every year. His expression was dazed.
Then, he gave a seemingly nonchalant laugh. "Don’t joke around now."
Lynn White shoved the letter into his hands. "Just open it and see for yourself. You can compare it with the ones online to see if it’s the same design and if it has your name on it."
"Don’t be so rough with it!" Ethan Bishop smoothed out a crease she had accidentally made before carefully opening it.
Even though he assumed it was a fake his niece had bought to cheer him up, he still treated it with the utmost care.
Seeing his name and major printed on it, Ethan Bishop couldn’t stop a grin from spreading across his face. "Yes, it’s beautiful!"
Lynn White wiped a tear from the corner of her eye, a smile on her face as well. "Then you’d better keep it safe. You’ll need to bring this letter with you to register at the university in September."
Ethan Bishop’s hands froze. He snapped his head up to look at her. "What do you mean?"
Lynn White concealed the fact that she had been married to Kevin Clark, only saying that he was the boss of the company she had joined. She then gave him a rough summary of the identity theft incident that had been uncovered.
She had no intention of mentioning the marriage. Anyway, when Kevin Clark’s case was eventually made public, she would just be ’concerned citizen, Miss White’.
In any case, she’d hide it for as long as she could. It’s really not that this author doesn’t want to write about it.
"So... I was supposed to be a university student over twenty years ago?" Ethan Bishop’s expression was one of utter disbelief.
"Yes! You were our village’s first-ever university student! And to this day, you’re still the only one who ever got into Kingsland University!"
Ethan Bishop laughed happily, but as he laughed, tears began to fall, and somehow it ended with the uncle and niece crying in each other’s arms.
The sound of their crying attracted a few neighbors. They had seen Lynn White return and figured the uncle and niece would be having a good chat. Who would have thought they’d end up crying? Alarmed, the neighbors hurried over to check on them.
The people in their village were simple, honest, and tight-knit, so after learning the good news, everyone was genuinely happy for Ethan Bishop.
Word spread like wildfire. In less than half an hour, the news had traveled throughout the entire village, and villagers came one after another to offer their congratulations.
Lynn White simply made a grand gesture and asked some of the skilled neighbors to help. The banquet would start tonight.
But after Ethan Bishop calmed down, he became hesitant again. "If I go to school, what about the children? Besides, I’m almost fifty. Is it really appropriate for me to go to university?"
Before Lynn White could even try to persuade him, the most senior elder in the village, Third Grandpa, spoke up first.
"What’s not appropriate about it?! You’re the only person from our village who ever got into Kingsland University! You go and study hard, and don’t you dare bring shame on our village! Besides, the school has a new teacher taking over now. They haven’t needed you for a while."
The other elders chimed in. "That’s right! Kingsland is where the great leaders live, you have to go see it. If you have time, take some pictures for us. It was a great injustice for you to be stuck in the village all these years."
In the end, overpowered by the sheer force of pressure from his elders, Ethan Bishop reluctantly agreed.
Lynn White also planned to stay in the village for a while and then go to Kingsland with him. She had already decided to submit her resume to Pluto.
Although her educational background wasn’t top-tier, she wasn’t short on money now. She was willing to take even an ordinary office job there.
She wasn’t a fool. She knew someone had helped her from behind the scenes with the divorce, and it was self-evident who that person was. It was a debt she had to repay.
