Chapter 235 - 234: The Lowell Family is Not Your One-Man Show

Two security guards quickly moved forward to restrain her. Ignoring her struggles, they covered her mouth and pulled her to the side.

Leo Loster moved quickly, emerging from Sheryl Avery’s bedroom with two small, white porcelain vials and several scented candles.

Sheryl Avery’s pupils shrank. She even forgot to struggle.

Glenn Rhodes saw her freeze, and a mocking smile played on Yvonne Lowell’s lips. "Uncle Lowell, where did you find all this?"

"In the wardrobe, inside shoeboxes, and on the vanity," Leo Loster replied dutifully.

"See? What did I tell you? There’s a reason for everything. And there’s a reason those TV dramas make it to air—look how well Nutritionist Donovan has mastered their little tricks."

Yvonne Lowell opened one of the vials. It was still about half-full of a white powder.

She shoved the vial in front of Sheryl Avery’s face and asked, "What is this? Don’t tell me it’s the pearl powder you use for your skincare routine."

The guard released her mouth. Sheryl Avery’s face was utterly devoid of panic.

"These are spices and medicinal powders for making the old master’s candles and medicated meals. The doctor has already checked them. They’re all safe ingredients. If you don’t believe me, Miss Lowell, you are free to have them tested."

Listen to her. She clearly wasn’t the least bit worried they’d find anything wrong with the items.

Yvonne Lowell gave an unreadable smile. "I was going to have them tested whether you said so or not. And when the results are in, everyone involved will be held accountable. No one will escape."

Sheryl Avery lowered her gaze. "Whoever is responsible should certainly face the consequences, but that has very little to do with a simple nutritionist like myself.

However, could you let me go now? What you’ve done today has violated my personal rights and endangered my safety. I’ll sue you for this, even if it means losing my job."

Zachary Jacobs, who was enjoying the show from the side, couldn’t help but laugh at her foolishness. "Do you think the Lowell Family’s estate is a hotel lobby with automatic doors? That you can just waltz in and out as you please? You can’t sue anyone if you can’t even leave."

The smile on Sheryl Avery’s face froze. "What’s that supposed to mean? It wasn’t enough to lock us in the manor all day and cut off our contact with the outside world? Now you plan to imprison me?"

Yvonne Lowell feigned innocence, batting her eyes.

"Why would you think that? Weren’t you, Nutritionist Donovan, just proclaiming your innocence? In that case, you shouldn’t mind relocating to a new ’residence’ while you cooperate with our investigation, right?"

"I can cooperate with the investigation, but on what grounds are you imprisoning me? This is illegal! The Lowell Family isn’t your personal dictatorship. I only take orders from the old master and old madam here. You’re nothing but a dependent of the Lowell Family yourself. You have no right to bypass them and treat me this way!"

Her words so infuriated the two guards holding her that they tightened their grip, causing her to cry out in pain.

’What a moron. Causing trouble without even figuring out the pecking order in the Lowell Family first! Did she think she could just bad-mouth anyone she pleased? As if we’d let her?!’

"Dependent on the Lowell Family? Do you really think I survived all those years abroad just by eating three square meals a day?" Yvonne Lowell stepped forward, gently tucking a stray strand of hair behind the woman’s ear as she spoke softly.

"You fool. Why did you never bother to learn a single thing about me? Do you know what the name ’Yvonne Lowell’ represents?

It represents money, power, and influence. I myself am the embodiment of all three. As for you saying the Lowell Family isn’t my personal dictatorship... if I wanted it to be, it would be. Understand?"

’The two guards holding her stared straight ahead, feigning ignorance. Miss Lowell is so badass!!’

Sheryl Avery was stunned. She seemed to have never imagined Yvonne would dare say such a thing. ’Isn’t she afraid of someone else hearing this?’

’If I remember correctly, the next Family Head is supposed to be Lowell, right? Is she already preparing to seize power?’

Caleb Lowell: Is something this great really happening?! Caleb Lowell is here to request medicine to resign! Sister, please, take over!

Yvonne Lowell: Stop spreading rumors!

Yvonne Lowell waved her hand. "Let’s find our Nutritionist Donovan a new place to stay. I heard from my uncle that the little black room in the old residence hasn’t had any visitors in a long time. It’s about time we livened it up a bit."

Behind her, Leo Loster nearly lost his signature stony expression. ’The way she phrased that...’

’And that’s a dungeon! A dungeon!!’

’Alright, then...’

’A dungeon it is.’

「The Dungeon.」

Forced down into a chair, Sheryl Avery struggled to maintain her composure as she looked at Yvonne Lowell.

"What is the meaning of this, Miss Lowell? Illegally imprisoning me isn’t enough, now you’re going to torture me? Are you trying to beat a confession out of me?"

"Don’t go slinging mud at me. There aren’t even any torture instruments in this room."

Yvonne Lowell regarded Sheryl Avery with an unreadable smile. "However, I do take suggestions to heart. The rest of you can go. Zion, you stay. This will prevent any accusations of me torturing her."

Leo Loster hesitated. "Miss Lowell...?"

"It’s nothing. We’re just going to chat. All of you wait outside the door," Yvonne Lowell said, waving a dismissive hand.

"Yes, ma’am." Leo Loster led the others out of the "black room" and stood guard outside.

Yvonne Lowell pulled a chair over to sit opposite her. She rested her chin on her hand, which was propped on the chair’s back, looking as if she were about to start a casual conversation.

"To be honest, I’m actually quite curious. An alcoholic father, a gambling-addicted mother, a sickly younger brother, and you, the one who earned a scholarship to study abroad.

You were clearly handed the script for an inspirational heroine, so why is your view on love so twisted? To fall for a married man with a child, and even be willing to do his dirty work for him."

Sheryl Avery forced a smile and said with composure, "I know it’s easy for a rich and powerful family like yours to dig up someone’s private information. And you are indeed completely correct about my family situation.

But I am still single. You can’t just fabricate salacious rumors about me with nothing but your words, can you? I won’t yield to these baseless accusations. Instead of interrogating me here, Miss Lowell, you should hurry up and find the real culprit."

’I wore a disguise every time I met him, and all our messages were encrypted.’

’No matter how powerful the Lowell Family is, I don’t believe they can reach into that circle.’

Yvonne Lowell stroked her chin, nodding as if giving the matter serious thought.

"You know, I have to say, I rather like your spirit. If I’d been the one who interviewed you, I might have hired you for your personality alone.

But isn’t he just some low-level official? He has no money, not much power, and he’s not even handsome. What on earth do you see in him?"

Sheryl Avery’s eyelashes trembled. Then she smiled. "Do you have any proof for those claims, Miss Lowell? Slander is also against the law."

"We came for you because we already doxed you completely, lady," Zachary Jacobs sneered impatiently. "You think we’re so bored we’d come all this way just to watch a clown like you put on a show?"

’This is so boring. I thought I’d get to see some action, but it turns out I’m just here to listen to her yap on and on.’

’Shameless to the end! I’d have a better time watching cheesy web dramas while investigating her handler.’

Seeing that Sheryl remained unmoved, Yvonne Lowell sighed deeply.

"You know? I really don’t enjoy playing games with bad little liars like you."

As soon as the words left her mouth, Yvonne Lowell stared directly into her eyes. A silver vortex began to swirl in each of her pupils.
