The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered

Chapter 233 - 232: You Won’t Be Happy If I Say It

"Actually... I’m Michael White."

Hearing this, Frank Lowell instantly spat out the drink he had just put in his mouth.

"Who?! Who did you say you are?!"

"Tsk, how can you be so hard of hearing at your age? I said, I’m Michael White." Nina Jennings scooted aside with a look of disdain.

The reactions from the others weren’t much better, except for Yvonne Lowell and Leo Grant.

Especially Silas Lynch. Where was the decisive and efficient Special Assistant now? His jaw was about to hit the floor.

’The woman sharing my bed is not only rich, beautiful, and skilled in medicine, but she’s also a legendary miracle doctor?! Is that even remotely fair?!’

’I feel even less worthy of her... Damn it! Is it too late to ditch my boss and go solo?!’

Charles Lowell instinctively looked toward Yvonne Lowell, seeking confirmation.

But Yvonne Lowell was busy looking at the sky, the floor, and Leo Grant—anywhere but at them.

’Well, that solves that mystery, in a way.’

Nina Jennings rubbed her nose. ’If I don’t tell you, you get anxious. If I do tell you, you get upset.’

Poor little Michael White felt quite wronged, you know?

"Ahem, how about we get started with the acupuncture?" Nina Jennings patted her medical kit.

"Yes, yes, let’s have Nina start the acupuncture," Caleb Lowell said, suppressing his shock and trying to smooth things over.

The sly old hospital director hurried over. "Miracle Doctor Preston, do you need an assistant? What do you think of me?"

If his initial respect for Nina Jennings stemmed from her status and the hospital’s funding, his current respect came from that same status, plus an innate reverence for the powerful.

Nina Jennings shot him an amused sidelong glance. "Director, have you ever seen a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who needs an assistant?"

The director regretfully patted his toupee. ’Is it too late for me to start learning traditional Chinese medicine?’

"You can come and observe, but..." Nina Jennings drew out the word.

"But what?!" the director asked eagerly.

He had already decided to agree to whatever condition Nina Jennings set, even if she demanded a month of his precious funding!

"But today, I am just an ordinary doctor, and you have never met Michael White. Understand?" Nina Jennings raised an eyebrow.

The director immediately understood. "Today, I am merely observing Miss Jennings perform detoxification."

Nina Jennings smiled, pleased that he was so quick on the uptake, and took out her acupuncture kit as she walked toward the hospital bed.

When she saw the simple, antique-looking acupuncture kit, Yvonne Lowell’s brow furrowed slightly. "You’re planning to use Golden Needles?"

Golden Needles were superior to other acupuncture needles in terms of material properties and conductivity. However, they also demanded immense skill and mental energy from the practitioner, not to mention Nina Jennings was about to treat two people at once.

Nina Jennings waved her hand dismissively. "It’s no big deal. It just means I’ll need a couple extra hours of sleep tonight."

Yvonne Lowell couldn’t help but twitch her lips. ’Fine, if I can’t stop her, so be it.’

’Let go of the urge to help. Respect the choices of others.’

’Anyway, it wasn’t Nina Jennings she was worried about. She was just worried that Nina would pass out halfway through treating her grandparents, which would affect the outcome of the treatment.’

Nina Jennings unrolled her acupuncture kit and prepared to begin. The director and Frank Lowell rushed over to learn her techniques by watching, while the others stood at a distance to observe.

Yvonne Lowell idly scratched Mr. Grant’s palm. "Shouldn’t you be heading to the office? It’s already past nine."

"It’s fine. I’ll stay and help. I’ll have... Ian Lynch has already gone."

He had originally intended to say Silas Lynch’s name, but since the man’s girlfriend might be exhausted later, it was better to let him stay.

Ian Lynch, who was currently leading the morning meeting: ’...So? What am I, chopped liver?’

"I’m heading back to the old family estate in a bit. Besides, my dad and Old Man Jennings are here. You should go to the office. Otherwise, you’ll be working late again, and I won’t be leaving the door unlocked for you," Yvonne Lowell said, giving him an exasperated look.

Leo Grant wanted to argue his case, but under Yvonne Lowell’s direct stare, he was too stunned to utter a single pleasing word.

He could only relent. "Alright, Your Highness. Can I go in a little while? I’ll leave after you head back to the estate."

"Fine."

DING DONG.

Yvonne Lowell quickly pulled out her phone, her eyes flying across the document Zachary Jacobs had sent.

’Holy cow!’

Yvonne Lowell turned to look at Leo Grant. "It’s not what I think it is, is it?"

"It’s pretty close."

Leo Grant nodded slightly. He had also just seen the information Zachary Jacobs sent and had come to the same conclusion.

Yvonne Lowell’s expression was complicated. ’How the hell are we supposed to investigate this? And this guy is clearly just a small fry.’

’This circle is much harder to investigate than those international families. Those people are incredibly cunning, full of countless schemes.’

’The order probably passed through seven, eight, nine, or even ten layers of intermediaries from the mastermind to the small fry who carried it out.’

’It’s not that it’s impossible to find out, but how long would that take? Until the cows come home?’

’By the time we’d get to the bottom of it, a couple of the village donkeys would have worked themselves into retirement, their hides boiled down into gelatin, and we’d still not be finished.’

’And to think I initially suspected it was someone I’d offended...’

Leo Grant saw her frustration and raised an eyebrow. "Sometimes, asking the person involved is a good process of elimination."

"Oh, right!" Yvonne Lowell’s eyes lit up. She went over, pushed the spectating Caleb Lowell aside, and whispered in his ear,

"Uncle, let me ask you something. Do you have a chance for a promotion coming up? Tell me on the sly. I swear I won’t tell anyone!"

Caleb Lowell gave her a sidelong glance and used his index finger to push her fuzzy head away. "How come I haven’t heard anything about that?"

"You don’t? Well, do you have any colleagues you’re particularly close with, or particularly at odds with? The kind whose positions are more or less the same as yours," Yvonne Lowell asked again.

In situations like this, those two types of people are usually the prime suspects.

Caleb Lowell’s eyes narrowed as he stared at Yvonne Lowell. "Is this related to what happened today? Don’t lie to me."

"Yep. Zion followed the trail from that guy named Zhao and found a small fry. I was thinking of narrowing the search perimeter."

Yvonne Lowell admitted it frankly. Since she had come to ask, she had no intention of hiding it.

Besides, she was planning to use this incident to help Caleb Lowell climb another rung up the ladder, and she would need his cooperation for that.

As for feeling guilty toward the two elders, guilt was a good thing. It might make them go back to the old estate to visit their parents more often and be more careful in the future.

Caleb Lowell mulled it over for a moment. "I can give you a few names, but you have to be careful. Make sure you can get out of it completely unscathed no matter what."

He had absolute trust in this niece, who was like a daughter to him, and he knew she had her own methods and connections.

As for what he meant by "be careful"? He meant she should be careful not to get caught by the other side, and that there were certain lines that couldn’t be crossed.

It certainly didn’t mean she should show mercy. They had almost become the murderers of his parents; like hell he’d want her to go easy on them!

"Relax, I know all that. And I’ll let you in on a little secret: I have Joker and Serene working for me. My dad doesn’t even know." Yvonne raised an eyebrow.

Serene is Felix Knight, number three on the hacker rankings.

Caleb Lowell was stunned for a second, then he pointed a finger at her a few times without touching her and said with a laugh, "With a mind as full of schemes as yours, you should have gone into politics."

’Is this one of those situations? "I’m just playing around with everyone else, but with you, it’s for real."’

Yvonne Lowell flashed a fake smile and shoved a pen and paper into his hand. "Thanks, but no thanks. Now write!"

’She had no desire to play mind games. It was too exhausting. Playing with knives and guns was far more satisfying.’

’Besides, if she were to get technical about it, her own rank was probably already higher than Caleb Lowell’s.’

’But if she told Caleb Lowell that, would he spiral into depression?’
