The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered

Chapter 231 - 230: Has the World Gone Mad, or Has He?

  • Next Chapter

Seeing that the Lowells were insistent, the hospital director stopped arguing and personally drew blood from Old Mr. Lowell.

Yvonne Lowell also had him draw a sample from Grandma Lowell to send for testing as well.

Once only the Lowells were left in the hospital room, Charles Lowell asked, "Nina, you know about poison techniques, too?"

He knew Nina Jennings was skilled in medicine. But the hospital’s equipment couldn’t find anything, yet she was certain it was poisoning. She even knew the antidote.

’Has the world gone mad, or have I?’

"Of course, I do. As they say, medicine and poison are two sides of the same coin. If you know medicine, is it so strange to know a bit about poison? Besides, anything passed down from our ancestors is bound to be top-notch," Nina Jennings said matter-of-factly.

The others couldn’t help but twitch their lips. ’She’s not even a little bit modest, is she?’

Charles Lowell thought, ’Alright, the world has gone mad. It has nothing to do with me.’

Frank Lowell thought, ’Great. So I’m a fake doctor who doesn’t know a thing about poison techniques.’

But her little diversion managed to liven everyone’s spirits. At least they weren’t as worried as they had been at first.

Yvonne Lowell walked over to Nina Jennings and asked softly, "So?"

Nina Jennings shook her head. "It’s definitely not Beauty Intoxication. It’s not even a high-quality imitation. But their pulses are a bit chaotic, so there must be something else involved. I’ll need to see the lab reports to be sure."

Hearing it wasn’t Beauty Intoxication, Yvonne Lowell’s worries eased slightly.

She turned to the old butler and asked, "Grandpa Grant, have my grandparents been acting strangely at all lately? In any way?"

The old butler thought for a moment and shook his head. "Old Mr. Lowell and the madam have been the same as always. Their private doctor checks on them daily and hasn’t found anything amiss.

"If I had to point out something strange... they’ve been tiring more easily and sleeping more than before. But the new sleep-aid aromatherapy was checked before use, and there were no issues."

"What about their diet?" Yvonne Lowell asked, her eyes downcast, hiding her thoughts.

"In terms of diet, their appetites are the same as usual. However, the new nutritionist, a Ms. Zhao, knows how to make medicinal meals. They both tried them and found them quite good."

Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "When did this person start working at the manor?"

Hearing Yvonne Lowell’s question, the old butler, who had traveled far and wide with Old Mr. Lowell in his youth, immediately understood.

His expression turned serious as he began to recall everything about that nutritionist.

"She was hired a month ago. She’s in her early thirties and has a background of studying abroad. But before, she was just making regular nutritional meals under the senior nutritionist. They only started eating her medicinal meals a week ago."

The more the old butler spoke, the paler his face became. "Old Mr. Lowell and the madam started getting drowsy a week ago! That sleep-aid aromatherapy was also from Ms. Zhao. She said she made it herself!"

At this point, was there anyone who didn’t understand what was going on?

Even if this nutritionist named Zhao wasn’t the mastermind, she was inextricably linked to it.

Nina Jennings looked at Charles Lowell. "Uncle, can you have someone send that aromatherapy over? I need to take a look."

"Sure, I’ll have someone bring it right away." Charles Lowell took out his phone to make a call.

The old butler quickly added, "Charles, have them ask Auntie Joy for it. She knows where it is."

Joy is the old butler’s wife and has always been by Grandma Lowell’s side, taking care of her.

"Alright, got it, Uncle Grant."

Caleb Lowell’s face, which usually held a ready smile for everyone, was now frozen solid. "This must be thoroughly investigated! Some random nobody dares to cause trouble at the manor? What do they take the Lowell family for?!"

Last night, he and his brother had brought their wives back to the manor to spend time with their parents, as usual. They had seen the medicinal meal, and it did look quite appealing.

Their parents also said it was a medicinal meal tailored to their health conditions. They were quite happy about it at the time, but then something happened just one night later.

"Don’t worry. I’ve already had Leo Loster lock down the manor. Not even a fly can get out. We’ll deal with things there after Mom and Dad are taken care of," Charles Lowell said nonchalantly after hanging up the phone.

Leo Loster is the captain of the Lowell family’s security team, in charge of managing the entire force.

The Lowell family’s security members are mostly former soldiers and mercenaries. Every single one of them could take on five people at once.

In addition, the Lowell family has its own dedicated training camp to train new recruits and cycle out older members.

Yvonne Lowell gave her old man a complicated look. ’Isn’t he pretty smart?’

’So how did he manage to go on vacation without bodyguards and get himself taken hostage?’

Charles Lowell felt inexplicably flustered under his daughter’s gaze. Her eyes, so much like his beloved wife’s, now seemed to spell out three words: You! Are! Stupid!

Hey!

But before he could ask, Yvonne Lowell turned her head away.

’I can’t bear to look. I really can’t bear to look.’

Charles Lowell was speechless.

Just then, Silas Lynch walked in carrying several food containers.

Leo Grant spoke up. "I brought breakfast. Everyone should eat something."

"Thank you for the trouble, Leo," Wendy Sutton said with a warm smile.

"It’s no trouble at all. It’s the least I can do," Leo Grant said humbly.

Charles Lowell shot him a glare. It was obvious where this guy had spent the night, showing up so early in the morning.

But the Lowell men couldn’t be bothered to snipe at him anymore. What could they do when their own daughter was taking his side?

...

「Lowell Manor.」

After receiving the call, Leo Loster immediately went to find Auntie Joy. Once he had the aromatherapy, he had his trusted vice-captain personally deliver it to the hospital.

As he was leaving the main building, he came face to face with Sheryl Avery, who was just about to enter.

Leo Loster wore his usual expression, like the whole world owed him a million dollars.

When he saw Sheryl Avery, he merely gave her a passing glance and walked out without breaking his stride.

But Sheryl Avery felt a sudden chill run down her spine, as if she were being watched by a venomous snake.

She walked over to Aunt Joy, who was wiping a table, and asked probingly, "Aunt Joy, who was that just now? I don’t think I’ve seen him before."

It wasn’t surprising she found Leo Loster unfamiliar. After all, he rarely appeared in public unless it was a special situation.

Other than the old-timers who had worked for the Lowells for over a decade, almost no one knew his identity. They just thought he was a regular security guard.

Auntie Joy’s movements paused imperceptibly before quickly returning to normal. She spoke in a casual, gossipy tone, as if complaining out of exasperation,

"That’s a distant nephew of mine. His parents passed away early, so I raised him. I begged the madam to find him a cushy job in the security team. But the boy has no ambition, all he does all day is eat, eat, eat."

"Oh, what’s the big deal? There’s always extra food in the main building anyway. Better to share it than to throw it out and let it go to waste."

Sheryl Avery gave a fake, understanding smile and continued chatting with her in a natural tone.

’Looks like that paper bag was full of pastries,’ she thought. ’And this old hag claims to be so loyal? Isn’t she just lining her own pockets like everyone else?’

Sheryl Avery was normally only responsible for lunch and dinner, so by the time she woke up, Old Mr. Lowell had already been taken to the hospital.

At the time, she had been secretly pleased and wanted to call her contact to report the news.

But she discovered that the signal throughout Lowell Manor was blocked, and all exits had been sealed.

At first, she panicked a little. But when she saw that the other servants in the manor were all perfectly calm, clearly not panicked by the situation, she forced herself to relax as well.

Otherwise, her behavior would have stood out too much.

Although she didn’t know the origin of the substance, she had unconditional faith in her contact.

’No matter how they investigate, they’ll never trace it back to me. What do I have to be afraid of?’
