The Grey Rat's Demon Path
Chapter 93: Leaving the Mountain
Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Leaving the Mountain
After bidding farewell to the few Demons on Langlang Mountain he kept in touch with, Xu Chang’an went to Jin Yuanba to announce his departure.
Jin Yuanba’s expression was placid, revealing none of his thoughts.
It was the Third Elder who, whether at Jin Yuanba’s direction or on his own initiative, organized a small farewell party for Xu Chang’an.
After the party, Xu Chang’an politely declined the kind offer from several Elders to stay one more night and leave the mountain at dawn.
He planned to leave Langlang Mountain that very night.
The Elders escorted Xu Chang’an to the foot of the mountain, a grand procession making its way down Langlang Mountain.
On their way down, they happened to run into those few Little Demons from Pinglang Valley again.
Although the Demons didn’t recognize the Elders, a more experienced Little Demon from Langlang Mountain who was with them took the lead, bowing and greeting the Elders.
It was then they understood that this grand procession of Demons was entirely composed of Elders from Langlang Mountain’s Elder Peak.
They immediately lined up on the side of the mountain path, allowing the Elders to pass first.
Xu Chang’an was in the center of the group, exchanging final goodbyes with the surrounding Elders.
For more than twenty years on the mountain, he had never fought or competed with anyone.
Combined with his status as an Alchemist, this had earned Xu Chang’an a great deal of good standing (or rather, good demon standing).
As their paths crossed, Xu Chang’an glanced at the Hamster Demon.
The Hamster Demon’s head was bowed, its face a mask of shock and disbelief.
With its stunned expression and puffed-out cheeks, it actually looked rather amusing.
"The Demon Path is arduous; only perseverance will see you through!"
Leaving behind these words, Xu Chang’an walked away without a backward glance.
A few of the Elders beside him, however, glanced back at the Hamster Demon, a thoughtful look on their faces.
’Elder Grey Rat’s Bloodline aptitude may be poor, but his talent for Alchemy is known throughout the entire mountain!’
’This Hamster Demon... could it be...?’
...
COO COO COO!
Night fell, and Langlang Mountain was filled with the ceaseless chirping of insects and calls of birds.
After bidding farewell to the Elders of Langlang Mountain, Xu Chang’an did not use a Magical Artifact to perform Yukong.
Instead, he walked slowly along the mountain paths, heading outwards.
A small stream wound its way down the mountain, its clear gurgle echoing whenever the water splashed against the rocks.
Xu Chang’an strolled along, quietly taking it all in.
’This scene, this feeling... it’s just like all those years ago!’
"The king has sent me to patrol the mountain, hey~
Ay-ay-yo, ay-ay-yo~
After patrolling South Mountain, it’s on to North Mountain.
Ay-ay-yo, ay-ay-yo~"
Caught up in the moment, Xu Chang’an began to sing at the top of his lungs.
His song seemed to stir the insects and birds, which chirped and called back in response.
’The light of spring hastens old age; seek the Dao without delay, let not your hair turn white!’
Bidding farewell to Langlang Mountain, he was now starting anew.
The place Xu Chang’an planned to go was Peacock Demon City!
Peacock Demon City was established by Peacock Mountain.
Among the first-tier powers in the Red Cloud Mountain Range, Peacock Mountain ranked near the top.
The reason for this was the far-reaching fame of the Peacock King who presided over Peacock Mountain. He had been stationed there for several hundred years, and his Cultivation had reached the Peak of Middle Stage of Core Formation.
His array of Guarding Methods was unpredictable and exceptionally powerful.
It was rumored that in terms of combat prowess, the Peacock King was perhaps no inferior to the very top Demon Kings.
Peacock Demon City was located in a relatively central part of the Red Cloud Mountain Range, bordering a great number of other powers.
Powers like Lion’s Mane Cave, Sleeping Ox Mountain, Ivory Mountain, Leopard Ridge, and Snake and Scorpion Cave all had frequent contact with Peacock Demon City.
Numerous merchant guilds had established a presence in Peacock Demon City. Many even set up their headquarters within the Demon City.
Even a power as strong as Red Cloud Mountain operated its own specialized shops within Peacock Demon City.
The powers within Peacock Demon City were diverse, with beings from every walk of life present.
As a result, it had naturally fostered a uniquely favorable commercial atmosphere.
The prosperity of its trade and commerce further drove the development of all industries within the Demon City.
Rare and precious items, like Heavy Treasures that were hard to find elsewhere, could be easily located within the Demon City.
For an ordinary Independent Cultivator Demon, even the Foundation Establishment Pill, which was difficult to obtain in the outside world, could be refined through special channels in Peacock Demon City.
Not to mention Tier Two Foundation Establishment Pills, even rare Tier Three Elixirs appeared from time to time.
Alchemy, Talisman Making, Forging, Arrays, Music, Demon Patterns, Puppets...
Many Demons with accomplished Skills in the hundred arts of cultivation had taken up residence in the Demon City.
In Peacock Demon City, as long as you had a strong network built upon Demon Emotions and a substantial fortune, there were even channels to acquire a Magical Treasure.
Of course, whether you could actually obtain it was one thing!
Whether you could protect it was another matter entirely!
...
After walking slowly along the mountain path for several days, Xu Chang’an finally used a Middle-grade Magical Artifact to perform Yukong.
The Cultivation aura he outwardly projected was that of the Qi Refining Sixth Layer. Using a Middle-grade Magical Artifact, he could just barely manage to perform Yukong.
His speed was neither fast nor slow, maintaining the normal standard for the Qi Refining Sixth Layer.
After nearly a month, Xu Chang’an finally arrived in the vicinity of Peacock Demon City.
He encountered quite a few Demons on the road, all of whom seemed to be heading to Peacock Demon City.
Peacock Demon City’s bustling trade had a siphoning effect on the region.
Whether they were Demons from surrounding powers or ordinary Independent Cultivator Demons, they all frequently came to Peacock Demon City.
However, whether it was due to Xu Chang’an’s good luck or some other reason, his journey was safe and smooth. He didn’t run into any Tribulation Cultivators and arrived safely outside Peacock Demon City.
Peacock Demon City was majestic and boundless, hidden among the mountains.
The Demon City was enveloped by a Tier Three Array, and flashes of light from the Array could be seen from time to time at its edges.
This was, in fact, Xu Chang’an’s second time coming to Peacock Demon City.
To enter Peacock Demon City, one had to pay an entrance fee of two Demon Stones and go through the corresponding entry procedures.
Long lines had already formed before the massive city gate, which stood three hundred feet tall.
Xu Chang’an found a line and joined it.
Outside the Demon City were all sorts of Demons, with Cultivation levels ranging from as strong as a Foundation Establishment Great Demon to as weak as a Little Demon at the Qi Refining First and Second Layers.
However, most Little Demons at the Qi Refining First and Second Layers had some kind of backing.
They were accompanying their family elders or seniors from their mountain to the Demon City to broaden their horizons.
As a mere little Mouse Demon at the Qi Refining Sixth Layer, Xu Chang’an was completely inconspicuous outside the Demon City.
SWOOSH! SWOOSH! SWOOSH!
Suddenly, the sound of something whistling through the air came from the sky.
It caused the many Demons waiting in line to look up.
They saw a stunningly beautiful woman performing Yukong as she approached Peacock Demon City.
The woman’s face was exquisite, and she wore a magnificent Feathered Robe.
Behind her were two Foundation Establishment Great Demons who, in their true forms, stood well over a hundred feet tall.
Facing the gate of Peacock Demon City, the woman didn’t stop to land. Instead, she flew directly into the city on her Magical Artifact.
"A woman!? Is she a Human Race Cultivator!?"
"What Human Race Cultivator would dare to appear so brazenly outside Peacock Demon City? She must have used an Illusion Technique to take on a human form!"
"That’s possible!"
"No, it’s not... It’s probably not an Illusion Technique. My Cultivation may be low," said an old demon, "but I specialize in Breaking Illusion and Seeing Reality. It was only a fleeting glimpse, but I didn’t sense any trace of an illusion."
"Haha, you Old Demon, you’re only at Qi Refining and you think you can see through a Great Demon’s Illusion Technique? It’s just that your Cultivation is too low to see through it, that’s all."
"That’s right. If she didn’t use an Illusion Technique and she can’t possibly be a Human Race Cultivator, don’t tell me it’s a Demon King in person! AHAHAHA..."
