Chapter 359 -308-309: Forging an Enmity, Spiritual Food of the Demon City
“My Dao Companion is ten thousand times better than you!”
The Peacock King was as imperious as ever. Even after arriving in this Great Realm, she had no intention whatsoever of reining herself in or changing!
‘If possible, Xu Chang’an actually hoped she would stay this way forever.’
‘Unfortunately, the Great Realm was filled with countless powerful Demons, and there was no telling how far Chu Xianyi could make it.’
‘How long could she last with a temperament like that?’
‘Perhaps one day, she’ll be crushed by reality.’
‘She’ll have to gradually tone it down or change her true nature.’
‘Come to think of it, the Dao Companion Chu Xianyi mentioned… that’s me, isn’t it?’
‘Why does it feel so strangely satisfying to put myself in that position!?’
After being repeatedly rejected by Chu Xianyi, Xiang Xian didn’t bother to hide his expression, which had turned exceedingly grim.
When he turned his head and saw the faint, mocking smile on Xu Chang’an’s face, his expression darkened even further.
Xu Chang’an had no intention of lingering. Chu Xianyi was already walking ahead, and he naturally had to follow her.
Ignoring Xiang Xian, he started walking in Chu Xianyi’s direction.
“That Demoness only said a few words! But man, were they brutal!”
“‘My Dao Companion is ten thousand times better than you!’ A respectable Shangyang-level Demon Fiend, and in her eyes, he’s not even one-ten-thousandth as good as her Dao Companion! She completely tore him down. How can Xiang Xian show his face after that!”
“Hahaha, Fellow Daoist Xiangxian got put in his place! How interesting, how very interesting!”
“It’s been a while since I’ve seen Xiang Xian look so defeated!”
“…”
In the central hall, many of the watching Demon Fiends broke into a flurry of discussion.
“Fellow Daoist Xiangxian, she belittled you like that and you’re not even going to react?”
“Haha, yeah, Fellow Daoist Xiangxian. This isn’t like you at all.”
Members of the Demon Race who knew Xiang Xian well teased him jokingly, their laughter rising and falling as they seemed determined to stir up trouble.
However, the Demons who dared to mock Xiang Xian to his face were not much weaker than him; they were mostly his equals.
A few even held a slightly higher status than Xiang Xian.
Listening to the taunts around him, Xiang Xian’s face grew so dark it seemed water could be wrung from it.
“Stop!”
Xiang Xian roared.
Chu Xianyi, clad in a Colorful Cloud Palace Skirt that accentuated her graceful figure and perfect posture, didn’t turn back, acting as if she hadn’t heard a thing.
Neither did Xu Chang’an.
WHOOSH!
Xiang Xian’s figure flashed, appearing in front of Xu Chang’an in an instant.
“I told you to stop! Why didn’t you stop?!”
“Senior, were you by any chance telling me to stop just now?”
Xu Chang’an halted, looking up at the burly man before him.
“I thought you were calling to her, Senior!”
Xu Chang’an said with a beaming smile, his attitude perfectly pleasant.
As he spoke, he gestured in Chu Xianyi’s direction.
Xu Chang’an’s attitude made Xiang Xian suspicious.
‘Could I have been mistaken?’
‘The two Demons were walking together, but maybe they don’t have a special relationship!’
‘Otherwise, this Demon wouldn’t be acting like this.’
“What is your relationship with that Fairy!?”
Xiang Xian pressed.
Xu Chang’an’s smile was radiant. His eyes, as clear as a deep pool of water, met Xiang Xian’s gaze.
“To answer you, Senior, if the Fairy you’re referring to is that Demoness over there, then she is my Dao Companion.”
Dao Companion!?
Xiang Xian froze for a second before rage erupted from within him.
‘Acting all unfamiliar, but he’s the Fairy’s Dao Companion!?’
‘Is he making a fool of me?’
“So it’s you? The one who’s ‘ten thousand times better’ than me!? I’d like to ask, on what grounds!”
Xiang Xian’s eyes bulged as a fierce, oppressive aura radiated from him.
“Senior, I’m not the one who said that. You’re asking me, but I have no idea either!”
Xu Chang’an said mildly.
“If there’s nothing else, Senior, I’ll be taking my leave.”
With that, Xu Chang’an walked past Xiang Xian and continued on his way.
Leaving Xiang Xian standing rooted to the spot.
Chu Xianyi hadn’t gone far. Xu Chang’an caught up to her just before the main entrance of the central hall.
As he approached, she did something that surprised him: she turned and took his arm.
Feeling the softness pressed against his side, Xu Chang’an couldn’t help but chuckle in amusement.
‘This Little Peacock… she’s really something else!’
Watching Xu Chang’an and Chu Xianyi’s intimate display, Xiang Xian’s eyes blazed with fury, and he clenched his fists.
If it weren’t forbidden to fight within Kongchen Demon City, he would have charged over and taught them what it means to be crushed by power!
“Xiang Xian got totally shut down!”
“Those two Demons, playing off each other like that. They must have pissed Xiang Xian off something fierce!”
“Hahaha, what a great show!”
“That kid’s lucky. If this were outside the Demon City, Xiang Xian would have definitely taught him a lesson on how to be a proper Demon!”
“Xiang Xian is such a wimp! After all that, he’s still not doing anything? Just standing there in a daze!”
“Duh, it’s the Demon City’s decree. Who dares to defy it? If you’re so tough, why don’t you go try it!”
“Haha, don’t take it so seriously! I was just joking!”
“…”
The taunts from the crowd gradually cooled Xiang Xian’s initial rage, but his fists remained clenched.
‘Yingzhao-level Demon Fiend certification…’
Xiang Xian watched in silence until Xu Chang’an and Chu Xianyi disappeared from his view.
He had been paying attention earlier and knew they were there to apply for the Yingzhao-level Demon Fiend certification.
‘Fighting is forbidden inside the Demon City, but that doesn’t mean it’s forbidden outside it!’
‘In that case, during the Demon Fiend certification…’
…
“My, my, Demon Emperor, you have such great tolerance. That Demon was so aggressive, yet you managed to hold back!”
Chu Xianyi teased with a smile as they walked out of the Demon Palace.
“This Emperor is focused on self-cultivation. Why would I stoop to the level of a junior?”
Xu Chang’an declared, putting on a profound and mysterious air.
“Pfft—”
Chu Xianyi couldn’t help but laugh.
“The Demon Emperor’s tolerance is indeed vast. It seems I underestimated you!”
Xu Chang’an glanced sideways at her.
‘This Little Peacock…’
‘What happened to her being cold and aloof!?’
