Chapter 259: Chapter 224: Returning to Qingfeng, Past Cause and Effect

Cyan Blade Town, the Chen Family residence.

The most prominent and wealthy family in town.

They were over seventy years ago, and they still are today!

His Demon Sense left his body, instantly blanketing the entire estate.

The entrance hall, courtyards, corridors, gardens, pavilions, rooms...

Every last detail of the estate was laid bare before Xu Chang’an’s eyes.

Hm!?

Inside one of the Chen Family’s main bedrooms, an old man lay on a bed, on the verge of death.

The old man’s skin was wrinkled and shriveled, his eyes were clouded, and most of the teeth in his mouth were gone.

One maid held a tray with a bowl of medicine, while another was carefully feeding the old man.

The old man was ancient, with not many days left to live.

Xu Chang’an observed the old man through his Demon Sense.

A scene surfaced in his mind.

"Drink! I can still drink more."

"Young Master, you’re drunk. Let this servant help you back to rest."

"Drunk? I’m not drunk! I’m going to find the Old Master. Why did he give the ginseng to my little brother and not me?"

"Young Master, it’s late. The Old Master has already gone to bed."

The voices drew closer, and a pale-faced youth dressed as a young master in green robes appeared, a maidservant following his every step.

Xu Chang’an was hiding beneath a flowerpot as the two gradually approached.

BLECH~

The young master in green suddenly bent over to the side and vomited, the filth accompanied by the strong stench of alcohol.

As luck would have it, he threw up right next to the flowerpot.

A good deal of the splattered filth landed on Xu Chang’an.

...

More than seventy years ago, the young master in green was in the prime of his youth, in his teens.

More than seventy years later, he was now an old man on the verge of ninety, withered and frail!

Time waits for no man!

Through his Demon Sense, Xu Chang’an easily determined that the old man probably only had one or two months of life left.

That said, by mortal standards, this old man had lived a long life.

CREAK.

The door that had caused Xu Chang’an such a headache opened.

At the bedroom door, an older maidservant barked coldly.

"First Young Master, what are you doing here? It is late, and the Old Master is already asleep. Are you trying to wake him?!"

"Aunt Ru, my apologies. The Young Master has had too much to drink. I’ll help him back right away."

SWISH!

Seizing the opportunity, Xu Chang’an slipped past them in a flash and shot into the bedroom.

...

’I just happened to run into him! So be it, so be it!’

Back then, if not for the appearance of the young master in green, he probably wouldn’t have so easily eaten most of that Centennial Ginseng.

His journey to Becoming a Demon would have likely involved more twists and turns!

’I incurred a karmic debt to you back then. Today, I shall repay it!’

Xu Chang’an walked into the bedroom of the estate, completely unnoticed by the maids and the old man lying on the bed.

How could mere mortals possibly detect a Concealment Spell from someone in the Core Formation Realm?

Xu Chang’an stood before the bed, looking at the old man in front of him.

He watched for a moment, then sent a stream of Demon Power into the old man’s body.

The Demon Power of the Demon Race is slightly different from the Magical Power of the Human Race, but all paths lead to the same great Dao, and each has its own wonders.

The old man on the bed felt the pain that had tormented him day after day suddenly vanish.

His entire body felt warm and wonderfully comfortable, as if he were a child again.

Xu Chang’an’s application of Demon Power revitalized his muscles and bones and nourished his internal organs.

The old man on the bed would now be able to live for at least another ten or twenty years, free of illness and pain.

"I feel..."

The old man suddenly sat up in bed.

His movements were so swift they startled the maids attending to him at his side.

"Mr. Chen Sr.!"

"I’m better!"

An indescribable smile hung on the old man’s face.

That night, he had a dream.

It was a long dream, and he couldn’t remember most of it upon waking.

It seemed to be about his ancestors accumulating good karma, and someone coming to repay a favor, settling an old karmic debt.

He could still vaguely recall some things from the dream.

After waking, Mr. Chen Sr. immediately ordered his household servants and errand boys to dig under a flowering crabapple tree in the courtyard.

Beneath the crabapple tree, they dug up a Jade Bottle.

Inside the Jade Bottle were several Elixirs.

Looking at the Jade Bottle in his hand, Mr. Chen Sr. remembered his dream.

"This Jade Bottle can be our family heirloom!"

...

The Jade Bottle and the Elixirs inside were, of course, left by Xu Chang’an.

Rejuvenating the old man was to settle the debt for the opening he provided back then.

Leaving the Jade Bottle and Elixirs was for the better part of the Chen Family’s Centennial Ginseng.

A cause from the past, a consequence today!

The Elixirs in the Jade Bottle were just ordinary, general-purpose Tier One Healing and Detoxification Elixirs.

To ordinary mortals, however, they were essentially priceless Spiritual Items.

After consuming one, a person would be immune to all mundane illnesses!

On the Jade Bottle, Xu Chang’an had carved an ordinary Restriction.

It would suppress spirits and ward off evil!

It was worthy of being the Chen Family’s heirloom!

After leaving the Chen Family, Xu Chang’an made another trip back to the Fang Family Pharmacy.

Just like Mr. Chen Sr., the current proprietor of the Fang Family Pharmacy, Shopkeeper Fang, also had a dream.

Upon waking, he found he had received the legacy of a medical art and several potent herbs.

This medical art was said to be a form of medicine, but in reality, it already touched upon the Skills of a Spirit Alchemist.

Like Alchemy, being a Spirit Alchemist was one of the hundred arts of cultivation.

A Spirit Alchemist is well-versed in the pharmacological principles of Spirit Medicine, combining them to produce extremely powerful effects.

To prevent the Fang Family from attracting disaster, the Spirit Alchemist legacy Xu Chang’an left behind contained only the Tier One Introduction portion.

Even so, with this Spirit Alchemist legacy, the Fang Family’s medical Skills would reach a whole new level.

As for those potent herbs, they weren’t considered Spiritual Items, but they had already begun to develop a hint of Spirituality.

When used in medicine, their effects would be tremendous!

If used to treat the rich and powerful, they would surely earn their favor.

Long ago, Xu Chang’an had devoured the medicinal herbs of the Fang Family Pharmacy; today, he repaid them with potent herbs and a legacy.
