Chapter 295: Chapter 136: Good Figure? Too Bad You’ve Met Boss Su
Shen Ning had already made up her mind.
It would be inappropriate to just march over and criticize the boss for how he cooks. That would make her seem like she was just looking for trouble.
Even though she planned to strongly condemn him, she had to do it with tact and reason.
For instance, she planned to tell this boss that the food street not far from the Botanical Garden was a much more suitable place to set up his stall, where he could make more money.
’Hmph. If this boss doesn’t listen to reason, then he can’t blame me for causing a scene!’
Listening to her music, Shen Ning strolled toward the cartoon-themed food truck.
SNIFF, SNIFF~
"How can the smell be so strong? Is this the only dish he knows how to make?"
From a distance, it had been an intense aroma of chili peppers.
Now that she was closer, she could clearly distinguish the smell of cilantro and celery mixed in with the chili peppers!
And as it happened, celery was Shen Ning’s favorite thing to eat in her nutritional meals.
The reason was quite simple. Celery was an excellent vegetable for body sculpting. Not only would it not cause weight gain, but eating more of it would even promote intestinal motility and aid digestion!
So every day, Shen Ning would pair celery with various other foods to create her own body-sculpting meals. She was more familiar with the smell of celery than anyone.
’Is that beef I smell too?’
As everyone knows, beef is highly recommended when dieting because it’s a low-calorie, low-fat, high-protein meat!
Shen Ning generally relied on beef, chicken, and eggs for her protein intake.
’If it’s just celery and beef, I guess it’s not that big of a deal.’
Lost in her thoughts, Shen Ning found herself standing in front of the food truck before she knew it. She stared intently at the boss inside, who was wearing a suit.
After a moment of thought, she asked her first question.
"Boss, may I ask why you’re cooking in a suit?"
Su Chen glanced up. It was that fitness instructor from before. ’Where did all her trainees go?’
This instructor was quite the busybody, though. "Why can’t I cook in a suit?"
Su Chen dished out the Stir-Fried Yellow Beef from the wok, filling a bowl to the brim. Zhan Yang couldn’t wait any longer, reaching in with an arm to grab it. "Get me another bowl of rice!" he yelled, then ran off.
The three "golden flowers" from Delicious were currently over there, burying their faces in their food. Bai Xiaobo had no choice but to resentfully fetch a bowl of rice for Zhan Yang.
"Boss! Why can’t I eat?"
Su Chen shrugged. "You’ll have to wait until they’re done. I can’t be the only one working, can I?"
Bai Xiaobo grunted in acknowledgment, feeling like life was suddenly a little less wonderful.
Shen Ning was a little taken aback by Su Chen’s retort and didn’t know what to say.
It seemed he had a point. There wasn’t any rule that said a chef couldn’t cook in a suit.
’Alright then...’
Shen Ning had already forgotten that her main objective was to condemn this boss!
As if possessed, she pointed at the wok. "How much for the Stir-Fried Yellow Beef?"
Su Chen jutted his chin toward the blackboard outside the food truck.
"48 for a serving?"
Shen Ning’s expression then turned serious. "Boss, I’d like to offer you a suggestion."
"Go ahead."
"There’s a food street about three kilometers from the Botanical Garden. If you set up your stall there, I believe your business will be much better."
Su Chen’s brow furrowed slightly. He felt like this fitness instructor was a little bit nuts.
’Do I need you to tell me where to set up my stall?’
"Thanks. But I want to be here."
Although Shen Ning was a little displeased, her profession was, after all, in the service industry, so she had always been good-tempered.
Suppressing her annoyance, Shen Ning said, "I haven’t had dinner yet, so I’ll take one."
Su Chen nodded. "Any dietary restrictions? And do you want it regular spicy or mild?"
To elevate an A Level Stir-Fried Yellow Beef to S Level, one had to cater to the customer’s preferences as much as possible.
This was the true secret to home-style cooking!
Shen Ning blinked. "Regular spicy is fine. And it would be great if you could use less oil and salt."
"I can do that."
Hearing Su Chen agree so readily, her earlier displeasure vanished instantly. Originally, she had just wanted to condemn him, and since the boss was being stubborn, she was prepared to execute her Plan B!
She would order a serving, take just one bite, and then casually remark in a loud voice, something like: ’This is awful, isn’t it? How can someone sell something this bad?’
After all, there weren’t many people around the Botanical Garden to begin with. Once words like that got out, it would surely affect the boss’s business. And when his business failed, wouldn’t he have to obediently move to the food street?
But the boss’s response had, on the contrary, piqued her interest.
’He can actually make it with less oil and salt?’
Truth be told, Shen Ning had been to restaurants with her colleagues before, and because of her unique dietary needs, she would always make special requests to the chef, like: "less salt in the stir-fried vegetables," or "less oil in the braised prawns."
Every time, she would be rejected by the kitchen staff as if she were a lunatic, and sometimes she was even treated like a troublemaker!
So, over time, Shen Ning had become rather reluctant to eat out at restaurants.
But since this boss had proactively said he could do it, Shen Ning said, "If it doesn’t taste good..."
"If you don’t like it, you don’t have to pay," Su Chen cut her off, then immediately began preparing the ingredients.
People have a thousand faces, and so does food.
If a customer didn’t like too much oil and salt, it meant that adding too much would make the dish inedible for them.
Making a home-style dish with less oil and salt was a perfectly reasonable request.
As for whether it tasted good or not, that depended on the skill of the chef. If it didn’t taste good, you absolutely couldn’t blame the lack of oil and salt. It just meant your own skill wasn’t up to par.
