Chapter 336: Shadow Of Death.

As she flew through the air, she hiccuped a little bit before saying, “It would have been great if I could get the help of a seer. But those three eye freaks see me coming from far away and will run away. What losers!”

She was grumbling and cursing when she heard fighting up ahead. The sounds of explosions broke through the fugue state of her mind and made her become a little bit alert.

But being alert was still too late for what came next. She first saw a blinding white flash. Then a wave of heat washed over her body.

The wave of heat was so powerful that nothing she could do could defend her from it. As the wave washed over her body, she caught fire before she disintegrated into ashes.

All that was left of her was a blackened spot behind her in the shape of a shadow. The blackened spot was also right on where her shadow used to be.

Just earlier, Loki had come upon the gathering of the people of the Myriad Phenomenon Sect. Even though he had stopped more than two kilometers away, they had still sensed him.

They have arrays in the surrounding area of 3 kilometers that will alert them to the presence of powerful creatures. There is also the array that checks the state of mind of anyone who gets close to them.

The array that checks the integrity of people’s minds is more energy-intensive, so it was only set up 500 meters around the main array. This way, someone would have to get too close to them before they could sense if their mind had been hijacked.

An infiltrator being so close to them before they can sense it is obviously a bad thing. But the good thing is that such an infiltrator will be too close to escape once they notice it.

The array master said as he pointed at the screen, “It says here that he is rank 4, but the energy readings coming off of him are off the charts. Even a rank 5 cultivator would be hard pressed to produce such a powerful energy fluctuation.”

The rank 5 talisman master said, “Is he a rank 5 deceiver? It would explain why he looks like a rank 4 cultivator to our sensors.”

The rank 4 pill refiner nodded in agreement as he said, “He should be a deceiver. Even if he isn’t, he is at best a rank 4 forger. Forgers are just our slightly competent younger brothers.”

What he said made the other two chuckle. They didn’t take this enemy seriously at all. Whether the enemy is a deceiver trying to look threatening or a rank 4 forger, they don’t believe that they have anything to worry about.

They made more snide comments as a red ball of lightning shot up from the direction of the intruder, arced through the air towards their direction, and landed on them.

Even before the red ball of energy reached them, the three of them knew that they were in trouble. They stopped laughing and became solemn.

The array master said with urgency in his voice, “I am activating defensive measures, and I am using our full power.”

He didn’t ask for their opinion on this important matter at all. He immediately waved his hands to activate dormant arrays and prepare their defenses.

The other two didn’t complain about this at all. They, too, began to scramble about to deal with the attack.

The rank 4 pill refiner produced his Life Ability, which is a large and black pill cauldron, and set it on the ground in the middle of the arrays. The pill cauldron is as big as a house, so it caused the ground to shake when it landed.

Fortunately, the ground had been reinforced, so it didn’t cave in and deform because of the extraordinary weight of the pill cauldron. The ground remained stable even as the rank 5 talisman master threw 9 talismans that turned into 9 pillars around the pill cauldron.

The pillars reached far above the pot and touched the upper arrays. Then the rank 5 array master also coupled the upper arrays to the pillar and created a channel for power to flow from the arrays through the pillars down to the pill cauldron below.

The three of them did this in less than two seconds. Their actions were seamless, as if they had practiced this many times, which they have.

It is clear that all three of them are taking this attack seriously. But this isn’t because the attack seemed too powerful to deal with. It is because they can sense that there is something disturbingly dangerous about the attack.

This disturbing trait that they can sense immediately made them take the attack seriously. They immediately forgot about the identity of the enemy and focused on defending the attack with everything they had.

Even their subordinates below could sense the danger and had stopped whatever they were doing to stare at the sky. Everyone was waiting for the outcome with bated breath.

Just as the red ball of lightning reached them, a yellow barrier suddenly appeared in its path. The yellow barrier was full of tiny runes and letters of various kinds. These runes and letters had various colors and were flashing on and off frequently within the yellow barrier.

The yellow barrier was in the shape of a half a sphere or a bowl, and it covered their entire position. So anything that would harm them would have to get past it first.

The red ball of lightning crashed into this yellow barrier and exploded with a loud bang and a bright flash. As it exploded, it spread outwards to the shield until it covered the yellow shield completely.
