THE GOD EATER
Chapter 1383 You’re Soft.
"I see. You have a point," Wandering Thief said, unable to decide if he should be happy or sad.
Of all the Dao Lords he thought he could fool with an oath like that, none would believe him. He didn’t think any Dao Lord would fall for the cheap trick he’d made in desperation, especially not Black Chain. So he was surprised to hear that Black Chain believed him.
He was also worried that Black Chain was lying and was instead up to something potentially catastrophic. So when he heard Black Chain’s frank admission, he sighed in relief.
But when he processed everything Black Chain said, he felt insulted. He didn’t know whether to be glad Black Chain wasn’t afraid he was a liar or disrespected that Black Chain didn’t see him as a threat.
The only thing that remained constant in the Sea of complexity that was his mind was his hatred for Ragnarok. That hatred stood like an unmoving rock at the center of his mind, and the more he thought about it, the bigger it became.
If Black Chain hadn’t still been speaking with him, he would have raged and ranted about his unsavory wishes for Ragnarok’s corpse. Since Black was still talking, he had to put off his rantings for another time and pay attention now.
Smiling like a predator, Black Chain said, "In fact, I think that there is an opportunity here. That’s why I didn’t expose your little secret during the meeting earlier."
"If you work with me to ambush the others, we will surely catch them off guard. We will share the spoils of the battle, each taking what we need to grow stronger."
"We will surely be able to defeat Ragnarok with our greater strength. So what do you say?"
Wandering Thief sighed as he replied, "That sounds like a very bad idea. But it doesn’t matter what I think. I still can’t be a part of it because my Supreme Metac can’t break oaths."
Black Chain’s face immediately fell as he said, "Be serious. I didn’t make that suggestion to trap you."
"I already believe Ragnarok because he swore an oath on his Dao Heart that it was the truth, and he doesn’t have the Freedom Pathway. So nothing you can say can convince me otherwise."
"What if Ragnarok has a Divine Metac that can help him break oaths and is lying?" Wandering Thief asked, sighing even more.
"Have you considered that all of this might be his plan to destroy our alliance? If so, you’re already falling into his trap because of your greed."
But Black Chain shook his head and said, "I’m not suggesting the ambush just because I’m greedy. I am suggesting it because I think it is our best chance of success."
"I really think the others are dead weight and will drag us down. I believe that our force will be more efficient if we cull the weak and use their parts to strengthen ourselves. After all, quality is better than quantity."
"So it doesn’t matter if Ragnarok was lying or not. This won’t destroy us and would instead make us stronger, so I don’t think we have anything to worry about."
Seeing that he couldn’t convince Black Chain, he said with determination, "It doesn’t matter if I can break oaths because I will never do something like that."
"I’ve experienced the consequences of fighting amongst ourselves, and I don’t think it is a good idea to do it at the behest of our enemy. I think we will have a greater chance of victory if we band together and combine our strengths, especially since our enemy is an extremely powerful race."
"So no, now is not the time for in-fighting. We can fight when we’ve won. Until then, let’s remain sharp and vigilant."
Black Chain fell silent again for a long time. But this time, he glared at Wandering Thief, clearly angry.
Just lie before, Wandering Thief stared back at him with an unflinching gaze. But this time, he was actually sincere.
When Black Chain finally decided to speak, he said, "I am disappointed in you."
"You’re weak mentally. You’re soft and unfit to be a Dao Lord."
"Dao Lords shouldn’t have friends. They definitely shouldn’t have friends that they call brothers. But you do because you’re soft."
"You can’t do what’s needed to win at all costs. That’s why you lost the civil war."
"All of you brothers are like that. Golden Sun couldn’t kill Harem King even though he suspected that she was an enemy. He loved her too much to strike her down before she could be a danger."
"You could have escaped many times and survived the war, but you died because you had to save your friends. Last but not least, Time Traveler didn’t kill you two to become stronger."
His tone slowly shifted from disappointment to anger as he said, "That last part is what pisses me off the most. If Time Traveler had three Cosmic Daos, he would have been unstoppable back then. But he was too soft to do what needed to be done to achieve victory."
"I don’t know why you three are like this. Maybe it is because you have the ability to reverse time, which gave you the freedom to make stupid choices without having to deal with its consequences."
"You feel like you can take risks, reverse time, and try again. But I am not like you."
"I only have one chance for victory, so I do my utmost to achieve it. My dedication to power and victory was why I was victorious even though I had fewer people on my side."
He pointed at himself and said, "I deserved that victory because I was willing to pay the price."
Then he pointed at Wandering Thief and said, "Even if you had won, you wouldn’t deserve it."
"I hope the day you look back at your decision today with regret will never come," he said before turning to leave, still shaking his head.
