Chapter 157: Chapter 53: [Divergent Paths of the Two Systems]

Samael thought that Anshiba was evidently an honest and sincere person who disliked lying.

"Save the nonsense and start talking," he said, interrupting Lahador’s lengthy tirade and wild gesturing. "Tell me about the Extermination System."

"Hmph..." Lahador looked quite displeased.

Eventually, he leaned against the back of his chair and slowly sat up straight, accepting the reality that he couldn’t deceive Samael.

He weighed his words carefully. "The Extermination System comes with an ’Extinction Detector’ and is locked onto specific life forms. If a target appears in your line of sight, it will start beeping like crazy, the UI will flash, and it will force a priority lock-on.

"If you are in prolonged contact with a target life form but don’t eliminate it, it will cause mental exhaustion, tyrannical rage, and extreme restlessness. The Extermination System will also release Spiritual Energy pulse stimuli. While enhancing your combat abilities, it will continuously amplify the hatred, irritation, and anger it provokes until you clear all targets from your vision.

"You probably don’t have this thing, do you? Otherwise, how could you endure being around the living for so long?" he asked, looking at Samael.

"...I really don’t." Samael had wanted to deny it, but since he had been mingling, joking, and working alongside a group of Demon Race Exiles for so many days, Lahador had probably seen it all long ago. Denying it would be pointless.

"Oh... so that means you don’t have the combat enhancements and amplifiers from the continuously stacking Spiritual Energy pulses either?" Lahador chuckled softly.

Samael didn’t answer.

"Alrighty then, let’s compare the next item..." Lahador laughed breezily. "The Extermination System’s auxiliary physical equipment includes a Scanner, Nether Copper Printer, Nether Copper Generator, Nether Copper Resonator, Circuit Infiltrator, and so on."

"That’s the same," Samael replied, even though the Nether Copper Generator and Circuit Infiltrator were only unlocked later after he upgraded his permissions.

It seemed the Extermination System came with all auxiliary equipment unlocked from the very beginning.

"Fine... next item. The Extermination System’s material library contains a massive amount of biological posture and structure materials exclusive to the Undead. For example, ’Nightmare Tendril’, ’Reap’, ’Condemn’, as well as ’Torture’ and ’Corpse March’."

"Are there any for the living?" Samael asked. "For living people, and animals."

"What living people? What animals?" Lahador was taken aback.

"’War Dance’, ’Footwork Focus’, ’Blade Parry Stance’, ’Feint Thrust Stance’, ’Anti-Pump Shell’, and so on," Samael replied. "Materials."

"What... what are those things?" Lahador’s Nether Copper butt slowly shifted forward.

"Haven’t you ever recorded them with the Scanner?" Samael asked.

"The Scanner can record things? When scanning the combat skills of the living or a Magical Beast, doesn’t it just pop up two crude lines of text description..." Lahador asked instinctively, but suddenly cut himself off.

The two Necromancer Monarchs looked at each other in silence.

"Alright, alright, there really are some differences..." Lahador muttered.

Samael realized his massive advantage. They had no way of recording more combat skills and biological structure materials from the living and Magical Beasts! He needed to come into contact with more excellent Warriors, more powerful living beings, and Magical Beasts to record more materials. That meant traveling around to gain experience and interacting with other regions of this world. This would take up a significant portion of his future work schedule. Taking advantage of the fact that the people of this world didn’t yet know Ghost Knights truly existed, he could conceal his identity, interact more with the living of different races in different regions, and scan to harvest a massive amount of materials!

"Also... the materials the Extermination System can manipulate and manufacture include Nether Copper, Spirit Bone, Deteriorated Humus, Molten Stone, Corpse Flesh, and so on," Lahador probed. "Perhaps the Construction System has more materials? More special metals? More organic materials and chemical products?"

"I’m not sure," Samael answered vaguely. He was still a bit sly, although this slyness was mostly learned from other players who invaded his game while he was playing Dark Souls.

"Does the Extermination System have an Inorganic Spiritual Energy Construct - Component Library?" he added with a counter-question, interrupting Lahador’s thoughts to prevent him from endlessly pestering him.

"It does," Lahador answered instinctively. "The Construction System has it too, right?"

"It does." Samael nodded. "Can the Extermination System perform construct module programming for the components?"

"No... you can only adjust the structures manually, bit by bit." Lahador shook his head. "It’s so fucking complicated... God knows how to do it. It’s much easier to just find corpses and Undead to modify and strengthen."

The two stared at each other, both falling silent for a moment.

"Why haven’t you fought your way out of the Hai Xin Plain?" Samael changed the subject. "Since the Extermination System requires you to kill all the living, why are you just staying in the Hai Xin Plain?"

"There aren’t enough corpses in the Heart of the Remains, Xiaosa." Lahador lazily leaned against the back of his chair, flexing his gaunt, barbed arm guards.

"Please change how you address me; our relationship isn’t that intimate, Lahador." Samael corrected him. "Besides, I thought the number of corpses in the Heart of the Remains was already enough to destroy a kingdom."

Lahador threw his hands up. "Hey, corpses rot, and the Undead naturally suffer wear and tear too. We only got here three or four months ago, and both the Undead and the corpses have nearly rotted away completely.

"Although the remaining Undead and materials in the entire Hai Xin Plain combined are indeed enough to destroy a kingdom... they’ve been equally divided into six portions—oh, I should say seven portions now."

Samael fell into deep thought. He wondered if the reason the various major factions had jointly blockaded the Hai Xin Plain for all these years was to prevent the Hai Xin Undead from obtaining corpse replenishments, causing them to gradually rot naturally until they were entirely depleted.
