Chapter 394: Pseudo God Mode
Mr. Green let out a long sigh. The original plan wouldn’t work. If they continued to board the plane, everything would be ruined. The plane would be destroyed because of the attacks by the beasts. While the plane could endure a beating, the number of beasts in this beast wave was simply too high.
The chaos it would create by simply letting the students on board would be too terrifying. Many students might die in the process.
What would be the best course of action? Simply creating a fortification here wouldn’t be enough. The beasts would easily overcome it and end up injuring them.
He had expected some beasts, but not another few thousand beasts like this.
If they pulled back, these beasts might also hit the instructors from behind.
Eliminating those instructors would cause a huge loss. There were around 12 Rank 6 humans and dozens of Rank 5 humans over there.
If they were eliminated, the reinforcement wouldn’t be enough to fend off this beast wave. In addition, there were also many strong and talented instructors among them, instructors, who could still become a Rank 6 human in the future.
"..." Mr. Green had to pick one of the few bad choices available. There was simply no escape.
"Go back to the group. I will announce it. The beasts still need to cover a certain distance, so we will be able to prepare for them." Mr. Green clicked his tongue.
Auric nodded as the girls followed.
As soon as they returned to the group, Mr. Green shouted, "Everyone, stop and listen! Turn around and prepare to face the beast wave. Even if we continue like this, the beasts will catch up or even destroy the plane we’re supposed to board. We have to face them here."
Mr. Green couldn’t find any abandoned buildings here, so he couldn’t use them as standard fortifications. The best he could use was the plain field.
"What?!"
"We’re really going to fight those beasts?"
"With only these people?!"
A lot of them were scared. They originally participated here just to get some glory and resources, even though the main purpose of this event was to show their strength to reassure the public.
Unfortunately, it looked like the event would bring them to the center of that problem.
"Shut up! All of you have been training for what? It’s precisely to kill the beasts! Everyone gets ready! Anyone with the power to create ditches, do it right away. We need to slow their momentum.
"Vanguard, take your positions. Attackers, make sure to support them with your firepower. More importantly, don’t let the beasts attack you!"
Timothy let out a long sigh before stepping forward. "I am not a deserter."
Clarice pulled out her sword. "I’m not a coward then."
Timothy and Clarice actually stepped forth without hesitation, becoming the role models for the students from the UK.
Auric and Katarina had actually begun their move. They placed their hands on the ground and started digging out the dirt to create ditches. They only had three minutes left, so they had to be fast.
The instructors were calmer. They knew they had no choice, so they immediately supported the students.
Some instructors started yelling to form their ranks.
Many students were frozen. They didn’t want to face the beasts. No one wanted to die.
Mr. Green encouraged them one more time. "Just hold out for thirty minutes! The reinforcements will definitely come!"
This place was located between Esfrata, Lech-Aistia, and Dermania, creating a bell shape. In other words, the three countries wouldn’t need that much time to send reinforcements.
Of course, land reinforcement would be quite restricted. The wilderness contained a lot of beasts, so they needed something fast. It was either sending the soldiers with the planes or simply sending fighter jets or drones for air support.
The problem was that there were a lot of flying beasts coming. It wouldn’t be easy to get air superiority this time.
Mr. Green was quite annoyed when the students were scared. They could panic. They didn’t have experience in a situation like this, so it was normal for them to panic.
However, they shouldn’t be scared. If they were scared to die, there was no point in getting stronger.
After all, even if they grew to a certain level, they would just abuse their power to suppress other humans who were weaker than them. They wouldn’t even help a beast wave or anything related to the beasts. All they wanted was to make themselves look good.
These people were useless to society. No, they might be even worse.
Unfortunately, Mr. Green didn’t have time to do anything about it. After all, once the beast wave reached a certain distance, the first thing they would do was launch a preemptive attack.
They launched a volley of attacks into the sky, preparing to bombard the students to keep them from advancing.
Normally, something like this would happen as well, but they would be quite suppressed by the turrets. Those turrets not only shot them down, but also shot back to mess with their ranks.
That was why they wanted to bring the students back to the wall.
Unfortunately, it didn’t look like they had any other choice but to fight the enemy not only with some frozen students but also without any terrain advantage.
"Incoming!" Mr. Green shouted. "Block the attacks!"
A lot of people were releasing their respective barriers to create umbrella-like barriers to block all these attacks. Unfortunately, some were too weak. As a result, the beasts pierced through their barriers and hit them.
Boom!
Boom!
"Aaaahhhh!" The students screamed.
The beasts in the front sped up, trying to reach them as soon as possible.
Mr. Green was staring at the situation in horror. If they couldn’t hold out, they would definitely be decimated when the people from the organization arrived.
Fortunately, a lot of students dared to come forward. They were ready to receive the beasts.
"Get away!" Mr. Green landed in front of the beasts, becoming the first wall. He wanted to inspire the students through his actions.
His energy spread widely. Auric could see that his energy had turned into multiple strings.
When the beasts crossed them, they would get sliced. Seeing such a development, the beasts were desperately trying to stop their momentum. Some tried to jump over the floating wires.
However, just a simple gesture managed to slow down their momentum and even forced them to make a maneuver.
Unfortunately, the high-ranking beasts among them wouldn’t allow Mr. Green to run rampant.
"Reee!" A chicken flew a few meters forward as though it was simply leaping over many beasts to reach Mr. Green.
It flapped both wings and sent out many feathers.
Mr. Green gathered his energy and let it surge, trying to use the wave of energy to block all the feathers.
*Roar!* Another beast roared and leaped into the sky and spat out a massive sphere toward him.
Fortunately, the Rank 6 instructor from the UK jumped in and pierced the sphere, destroying it.
Auric took a few steps back before he started writing his edict. "Katarina, you should go over there and support them."
"But you..." Katarina frowned.
"I will be fine." Auric nodded. He still had Lindwurm. Even though no one was protecting him, Lindwurm could still warn him if someone decided to attack him.
Katarina was a bit hesitant, but it didn’t seem to help. Her new technique had a shorter range than her bullets, but it had more firepower. So, she really needed to use her new technique in such a desperate time.
Clarice and Timothy also came forward. Timothy’s power could influence a vast area, so it would be good to control the battlefield.
Some students were still in despair, but no one had the time to care about them. Since the people from the media were also going back with the students, they ended up covering everything.
The reality of war, the reality of the students, and the reality they didn’t really want to face.
"Haaaa!" Timothy raised both arms. The water surged and started rising, sweeping a lot of beasts. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Some beasts worked together and broke apart his technique.
Even if Timothy had such a powerful element, a few beasts at the same level could still fight against him. The competitions only showed his power to fight an individual, after all.
Clarice, Vera, and Ellia were chopping the beasts at their own pace.
"Don’t let the beasts attack you!" Auric shouted, warning them again.
Unfortunately, it didn’t stop the students from dying.
One student coughed blood as a wolf struck him down and pinned him on the ground.
"Gah!" The student gritted his teeth, trying to endure the pain. He used his energy, planning to escape.
However, the energy activated the poison and caused him to experience another wave of pain.
"Gaaaahhhh!" The student screamed in confusion, but that pain caused him to lower his guard for a split second. The wolf didn’t even hesitate to take that opportunity and smash his head.
Another student was directly sliced into multiple pieces by claws.
"Help me!"
"NOOO!"
The students were having a hard time fending off the beasts, but the most terrifying part was the fact that the flying beasts hadn’t even dived yet.
Auric gritted his teeth. He had seen something like this before, but those deaths weren’t captured by his eyes directly. After all, he positioned himself away from the other students.
Still, there were a lot of deaths in the past. When he returned to Thunderer City, corpses had also been lining up at the bottom of the wall.
Looking at how messy the battlefield had become, Auric finally saw the horror of the battlefield.
"Huuu..." Auric took a deep breath. The flying beasts could go down at any moment. The students were also overwhelmed by the beasts. At this rate, their lines would collapse quickly. At that time, the worst-case scenario would have come true. The people from the organization hadn’t even arrived to mess with them yet.
To prevent such chaos from happening, Auric knew he had to do something. He definitely had the power to make a difference, but he had lost access to that power.
’I can’t use it yet, but I have to use it. It’s a technique that will allow me to access the full potential of my senses...
’No. Why should I rely on things I don’t have? I should rely on things I have...
’Do I really need battle techniques for such a thing? No! I need to keep sinking... Release my power to the surroundings and use my own power to sense everything around me. This time, I shouldn’t rely solely on my eyes.’
Auric took a deep breath. Focusing everything on his senses felt like he was sinking in a bottomless ocean. It was dark, with nothing to see. At the same time, it felt as though his soul could leave his body, watching himself sink.
This was what he really needed. He needed to watch everything around him.
’Keep sinking. It’s not enough. Sense everything with my energy, capture everything with my eyes, and calculate everything with my brain... I shouldn’t rely on a battle technique in the first place because I have that quality!’
"Huuu..."
Auric let out a long breath. His eyes gradually became hollow, but it wasn’t because he lost his focus but because he spread his focus as much as possible. His pupils didn’t move, as he wanted to focus on everything in front of him. He could capture everything happening within this area.
Copying everything would just be useless because he hadn’t gotten used to it yet. So, he wanted to focus everything on the 180 degrees before him, rather than looking at it from an omniscient point of view.
Lindwurm was startled. He was panicking at first because he couldn’t do anything as the condition hadn’t been fulfilled. However, Lindwurm could sense what Auric was trying to do.
Auric was finally ready. He muttered, "Pseudo... God Mode."
