Chapter 1461: Chapter 940: The Plan
Legolas was as still as a leaf amidst the dense canopy of millennial spruce.
His breath slowed to an almost standstill, his heartbeat deep and slow like a hibernating giant bear.
His sharp "Eagle Eye" pierced through the layers of lush foliage, locking onto the terrifying giant beast below, known as the "Iron Predator."
For a whole week, Legolas transformed into a shadow of the forest, meticulously weaving a web with extraordinary patience and the seasoned instincts of a hunter.
He maintained a far beyond reasonable safe distance, fully utilizing the wind direction, rugged terrain, and dense vegetation’s natural cover to ensure his imperceptible scent and any subtle noises were completely erased.
Every cautious move was calculated with precision by his brain.
He always placed his foot on soft moss, thick decayed leaves, or solid rock, striving to avoid any tiny vibrations that could alert the colossal creature below.
He was like an invisible breeze, perfectly merging into the forest’s long breath.
His brain functioned like a precise mapping instrument, clearly outlining the predator’s vast and dangerous activity range in his mind.
The core territory surrounded its eerie lair—a deep crevice beneath a massive rock wall located deep within the misty forest, exuding a disturbing aura.
The hunting ground covered the core territory outwards in a radius of five kilometers in a fan-shaped area, the giant beast particularly favoring spots near clear water sources and relatively sparse wooded areas, convenient for its deadly sprint across the open terrain.
He memorized several of its preferred drinking spots.
As well as a few of its common ambush locations, usually in dense shrubs downwind or behind jagged rocks.
And the fixed marking locations for territory, emanating a strong odor.
He had once held his breath to witness several bloody hunts.
The speed and absolute power the monster exhibited were terrifying.
It didn’t simply rely on brute force for its sprint but used the mottled shadows between the trees to silently stalk closer like a specter, and once within twenty steps of its lethal range, it would launch a thunderous attack without warning.
Its explosive force was appalling, with three-toed giant claws easily tearing through the tough spines of wild boars, and sawtooth-like sharp teeth snapping deer’s sturdy necks in an instant.
It seemed to prefer one-hit kills, lacking any patience for prey in dying struggle, often using an overwhelming power to completely destroy their resistance.
Its senses were extremely sharp, especially its sense of smell and hearing, any slight disturbance of grass and wind would immediately alert it.
Legolas had witnessed it abruptly stop just from a trace of unfamiliar scent over a hundred steps away, its golden vertical pupils scanning the dense forest for several minutes, the posture full of fatal oppression.
Legolas stared at the giant beast that looked like a moving mountain amidst the dusk, his mind analyzing calmly like an ice lake:
"Speed... Power... Defense... All are overwhelmingly strong.
"Level Six’s terrifying power is by no means something I can confront head-on with my current Level Three status.
"Between Level Three and Level Six is an unbridgeable chasm, the gap between the ordinary and extraordinary, like a rabbit and tiger."
He sighed, thinking to himself:
"My arrows, even with the sharpest armor-piercing cone head, hitting its heavily scale-armored torso or limbs directly could barely inflict a severe injury.
"Only to futilely anger this giant beast, inviting its instant, destructive deadly assault."
"Though its advantages are crushing, it is not without weaknesses...
"Its ghost-like stealth heavily relies on the environment’s concealment, in completely open areas or under strong interference, its proud speed is bound to be hindered.
"Its massive frame becomes a burden in extremely complex terrain. Frenzied power requires vast space to manifest, once its movement range is skillfully restricted, the threat will significantly reduce..."
"But the most fatal weakness is those eyes! Golden vertical pupils are sharp as an eagle’s, an unrivaled tool for locking onto prey, yet they are the only parts without heavy scale armor cover.
"No matter how hard the skull, behind the eyes is a relatively fragile area, only if hit with precision, especially penetrating the brain.
"This is the only and slim chance of victory! My archery is currently my strongest weapon. The glory of the Hunting Arrow Ribbon must be eventually ignited by me!"
As Legolas focused on observing the brief rest after a drink, the giant iron predator’s massive head below suddenly lifted.
The huge nostrils flared vehemently like bellows, a low, grumbling sound filled with irritability rolled from deep in its throat.
It stopped leisurely licking the icy river water and instead paced heavily in place, the golden vertical pupils scanning the surrounding dark forest with the vigilance of a searchlight, especially locking onto the direction where Legolas hid.
An invisible, strong sense of being watched seemed to precisely trigger its extremely sensitive nerve endings.
Legolas felt a chill rise in his heart:
"What terrifying intuition! It sensed... not scent exposure, not sound reveal, but purely the invisible pressure from ’staring’?"
He instantly made the instinctive reaction of the most seasoned hunter—stop staring.
He immediately forced his sharp gaze away from the prey, even slightly lowering his eyelids, using only the least noticeable corner of his eye to perceive the general movement in that area while further blending himself into the thick shadow of the tree crown.
