Chapter 344: Chapter 344

When the assistant turned her phone around, Rongrong and the other two stared intently at the screen.

The first image was a signed contract.

It stipulated that during Lin Jiji’s time in Yang City, Rong’an Security Company would be responsible for his safety. Below the company’s official seal was Yan Rongrong’s own signature.

The second image was a screenshot of a conversation.

It showed a conversation between the security company’s personnel manager and the assistant, as well as a picture of a business card for a media company the manager had recommended to her.

In the conversation, the manager clearly stated that this was the best media company in Yang City and that its owner had an excellent relationship with Yan Rongrong, so they could be completely trusted.

Media companies offer many services.

And the kind of help a media company could offer Lin Jiji at a time like this was obvious: hire a water army to work with his fans to generate buzz, buy trending spots, and magnify the incident’s impact.

Lin Jiji had a large fanbase, but its members were scattered far and wide; it was impossible for them to all converge on a single city at once.

In other words, the current public outcry was almost entirely fueled by that media company’s operations and hype.

And Yan Rongrong, as the person who introduced the media company to Lin Jiji, was therefore one of the driving forces behind the smear campaign that had ruined Chenyang’s reputation.

After seeing the photos and understanding the implications, the way An Xiaoqing looked at Yan Rongrong instantly changed.

Noticing her expression, Yan Rongrong frowned. "Qingqing, do you believe me?"

"I believe you, but that doesn’t mean Chenyang does. You need to give him an explanation."

"The contract must be the one my company signed with Lin Jiji, and the business card for the media company was indeed sent by my personnel manager. But I didn’t know about any of it."

Chenyang raised an eyebrow. "It has your signature on it. How could you not know?"

"I’ve been busy training new recruits for the past few days, spending most of my time at the training grounds. As for the company, I don’t get involved with any jobs unless they’re major contracts worth over 300,000. For anything else, after it’s approved at a lower level, I’ll sign it directly when it’s sent up, almost without looking."

Yan Rongrong raised three fingers. "If you don’t believe me, I can swear an oath. I truly didn’t know my people had taken the job to protect Lin Jiji, nor was I aware that my personnel manager sent over that media company’s business card.

"If I had known, I wouldn’t have shown up at your door in the middle of the night to get an earful. What’s more, Lin Jiji is my company’s client. If I was aware of the situation, why would I have given you the information and location of a person I’m being paid to protect?"

An Xiaoqing thought for a moment, then said to Chenyang, "Rongrong isn’t two-faced. She really must not have known about this. It was all handled by her subordinates."

Chenyang shrugged. "It doesn’t matter who handled it anymore. What’s done is done."

"What’s done is done, yes, but who did it is still quite important," the assistant said with a meaningful smile.

An Xiaoqing snapped, "How is it important? Are you trying to sow discord between us and Rongrong? To watch the drama while using the contract to threaten her into continuing to help you?"

The assistant shook her head. "You’ve misunderstood. I’m not trying to sow discord between you, nor do I want General Manager Yan to keep helping Lin Jiji. I’ve come to you now because I want to cooperate."

"Cooperate?"

Hearing that one word, not only did An Xiaoqing and Yan Rongrong look astonished, even Chenyang looked utterly baffled.

"You’re Lin Jiji’s assistant. You should be busy helping him take me down, so why would you want to cooperate with me?"

Chenyang paused, then asked, "Besides, what could we possibly cooperate on?"

The assistant said with a straight face, "I want to cooperate with you because I hate Lin Jiji. And what I want to cooperate on is simple: to utterly destroy his reputation and knock him off his pedestal!"

Chenyang stroked his chin and asked in a low voice, "Why do you hate Lin Jiji?"

"Can I choose not to answer that?"

"No. Otherwise, I can’t trust you, and there’s no way I’ll agree to cooperate."

The assistant sighed. "Let’s talk in my room. This involves some private matters, and I don’t want anyone else to overhear."

Before Chenyang could respond, An Xiaoqing cut in, "Don’t agree. Lin Jiji is full of nasty tricks, and as his assistant, she can’t be much better.

"Right now, plenty of Lin Jiji’s fans and street thugs are trying to find you, hoping to get some benefit by beating you or cursing you out.

"Who’s to say she doesn’t have a few bodyguards hiding in her room right now? She could be playing the victim to lure you in, then hand you over to those people for a reward."

Chenyang shook his head. "She might not be a good person, but I don’t think she’d do that."

"Why?" An Xiaoqing and Yan Rongrong frowned. "Don’t tell me you actually trust this assistant?"

Chenyang smiled. "I don’t trust her. I trust General Manager Yan."

"Me?" Yan Rongrong frowned. "What does this have to do with me?"

The assistant chimed in, "Of course it has to do with you. The bodyguards here protecting Lin Jiji are all from your company. With you present, would your own men really help me restrain you all? Would they hand you over for a reward?"
