Chapter 318: Chapter 318

"That’s right. He’s the one who made me spit blood. And he wasn’t bluffing before. Once he threw that punch, I really didn’t have a chance to strike back."

In Gao Tianqi’s eyes, seeing Brother Hu get beaten so badly was a humiliating display.

But Brother Hu didn’t see it that way. ’Losing to someone weaker than you is a disgrace,’ he thought. ’But losing to someone who’s just that strong is to be expected.’

Besides, from that one punch Chenyang had just revealed, Brother Hu could tell that Chenyang wasn’t just a little stronger than him—he was leagues beyond!

He struggled to his feet. "I submit! I take back everything I said about looking down on you. And I apologize for my rudeness earlier. I’m sorry!"

Chenyang chuckled. "Just as expected of someone from the Celestial Language Group. You guys really know how to be flexible. You know when to stand tall and take your lumps."

"If I’m not as good as you, I’m not as good as you. There’s no shame in admitting it. We’re just street thugs, but we understand a simple rule: might makes right."

"Haha, I thought you’d call for backup from the Celestial Language Group to get revenge on me after this. Looks like I was unfairly judging you."

Chenyang’s words reminded Gao Tianqi. He immediately started yelling, "Brother Hu, you can call for backup! The Celestial Language Group has so many tough guys, I refuse to believe none of them can beat him! Don’t worry, I can pay you more! As long as you take this guy down, I’ll even double the pay, no problem!"

Brother Hu shook his head. "The Celestial Language Group does have people who could beat him. But they aren’t people I can call on, nor are they people you can afford to hire."

"Hey, you’re underestimating me. How much could it possibly cost that I can’t afford it?"

"Give me a million, and I’ll go find someone right now who can beat him, guaranteed."

"A... a million?" Gao Tianqi’s eye twitched. "T-to beat one guy, Chenyang... does it really cost that much?

What about your top-ten ranked fighters? It only costs two or three hundred thousand to hire one of them. The guy you’re talking about costs a million? Just how good is this master?"

"I’m not going to explain how good he is. But I can tell you this with certainty: if you want to beat Chenyang, you have to get the million-dollar guy. No one else can get the job done for you."

"This..."

Just as Gao Tianqi, his face ugly with reluctance, was about to say something, Brother Hu held out his hand. "Pay up. We had a deal. Twenty thousand for a success, ten thousand for a failure. Now, me and my boys are injured. On top of the ten-thousand fee, you owe us five thousand for medical expenses."

Gao Tianqi’s lip twitched. ’He didn’t even get the job done, I really don’t want to pay him.’

"What? Thinking of welshing on your debt to the Celestial Language Group?"

Seeing that Gao Tianqi wasn’t moving, Brother Hu’s expression suddenly darkened.

Gao Tianqi frantically shook his head. As much as he didn’t want to pay, he didn’t have the guts to cross Brother Hu and his men. Resigned, he obediently took out the two stacks of cash he had prepared.

SNAP.

He broke the paper band on one of the stacks and started to count out half, but he’d barely pulled out a couple of bills before Brother Hu snatched the whole lot from him.

"Hey, that’s too much! That’s twenty thousand, not fifteen!"

"No. This is fifteen thousand!"

"It’s not..."

SLAP!

Before Gao Tianqi could finish, Brother Hu suddenly slapped him across the face. "Think carefully before you answer. Is this fifteen thousand or twenty thousand?"

"Twen—"

SLAP!

Brother Hu slapped him again. His face stinging, Gao Tianqi hastily corrected himself, "It’s fifteen thousand! Fifteen thousand!"

"Hmph!"

Brother Hu shot him a glare, then pulled out five thousand and handed it to Chenyang.

Chenyang raised an eyebrow. "Oh? A cut for me?"

"I’ve been in this game for years, and you’re the first true master I’ve met outside of the Celestial Language Group. This money is both an apology and a gesture of sincerity to be friends."

"Five thousand for an apology *and* a gesture of friendship? That’s not enough, is it?"

Brother Hu was taken aback. "Not enough?"

Chenyang chuckled mockingly and took the rest of the cash right out of his hand. "Five thousand is only enough for an apology. This part that’s left... I guess that can barely be considered your gesture of friendship."

"Hey, man. Isn’t this going too far?" Brother Hu frowned, a look of displeasure on his face. "I can’t beat you, but there’s no shortage of people backing me who can.

Me swallowing my pride to be friends with you was already a huge show of sincerity. Giving you money was to show you respect.

But now you’ve taken our pay and our brothers’ medical fees. This is showing a complete lack of respect for the Celestial Language Group."
