Chapter 184: The Bet And The Bite

Kane stepped into the training room, the familiar sight of gleaming equipment and mirrored walls greeting him.

Everything was exactly as he remembered—the professional sparring ring, the arsenal of weapons, and the holographic training system humming quietly in the corner.

But this time, the memory that hit him wasn’t of the equipment.

Kane’s eyes drifted to the center mat, where he’d first seen Cyrus shirtless, muscles rippling as he performed pull-ups effortlessly.

The dragon had been a vision of controlled power, all lean strength and perfect definition that had left Kane’s mouth dry and his thoughts scattered.

Heat crept up Kane’s neck as he remembered their first sparring match—how completely Cyrus had dominated him, pinning him to this very mat with embarrassing ease.

The dragon’s weight pressing him down, their faces inches apart, Cyrus’s cutting words about Kane fighting like a kit.

And then—Kane’s fingers unconsciously touched his lips—the desperate bite that had changed everything. The metallic taste of Cyrus’s blood, the shock in those crimson eyes, and the split second of vulnerability that had let Kane flip their positions.

"Having second thoughts?" Cyrus asked, already stretching near the weapons wall.

Kane shook his head, stepping onto the mats. His nine silver tails swished behind him, betraying his nervous energy.

"Just remembering our first dance," Kane replied with a grin. "You were so confident until I bit you."

Cyrus’s eyes flashed dangerously, his hand rising to touch his lower lip where Kane’s teeth had broken skin all those weeks ago.

"That wasn’t biting," Cyrus said, his voice carrying that familiar arrogance.

"Either way, it worked."

"It won’t work twice." Cyrus rolled his shoulders, crimson energy crackling faintly around his fingertips. "I know your tricks now."

Kane’s confidence surged through their bond, silver foxfire dancing around his tails. His enhanced senses, his nine-tail power—everything was different now.

"We’ll see about that. I’m not the same fox you pinned before."

"Prove it." Cyrus stepped onto the mat, assuming a fighting stance. "But let’s make this interesting."

"A bet?" Kane’s eyes lit up with mischief. "I’m listening."

"The loser makes breakfast for a week?"

Kane scoffed. "Too mild. Loser sleeps on the floor."

Cyrus raised an eyebrow, and Kane knew the dragon was right—Cyrus would never actually let him sleep on the cold floor. The protective instincts ran too deep.

Kane’s mind raced, landing on something that made his pulse quicken.

"The loser gets tied up and blindfolded," Kane said, trying to sound casual. "The winner can do whatever he wants."

Cyrus’s eyes narrowed, a knowing smirk playing at his lips. The dragon’s gaze raked over Kane with predatory awareness.

"I can practically hear your kinky thoughts from here, fox."

Kane’s tails bristled with embarrassment and arousal.

"You’re thinking it’s win-win either way," Cyrus continued, stalking closer. "Whether you’re tied up and at my mercy, or I’m helpless beneath your claws."

Kane’s breath caught as Cyrus stopped inches away, their bodies nearly touching.

"Lucky for you," Cyrus whispered against Kane’s ear, "you’re absolutely right."

The dragon stepped back, extending his hand.

"Deal."

Kane shook Cyrus’s hand, sealing their deal, then immediately stepped back and pulled his shirt over his head.

The fabric hit the floor as Kane’s lean torso was revealed, defined abs and pale skin, and nine magnificent tails fanning behind him like living silk.

Cyrus’s eyes darkened with appreciation before he stripped off his shirt, muscles rippling as he moved.

"Show off," Kane muttered, but his gaze lingered on Cyrus’s perfect physique.

The air between them crackled with power as they circled each other.

Silver foxfire danced around Kane’s tails while crimson energy blazed from Cyrus’s skin, the two auras creating a light show that made the mirrors reflect fragments of fire.

Kane struck first, his enhanced speed carrying him forward in a blur of silver light. His tails whipped around him like living weapons, each one crackling with foxfire as he aimed for Cyrus’s center mass.

Cyrus sidestepped with inhuman reflexes, his counterstrike precise and devastating. Crimson dragonfire erupted from his fist as he aimed for Kane’s ribs, but Kane twisted away, one tail wrapping around Cyrus’s wrist to redirect the blow.

"Fast," Cyrus acknowledged as he spun out of Kane’s grip.

"Faster than before." Kane grinned.

Despite Kane’s enhanced speed, Cyrus’s fist connected with his ribs, sending him stumbling backward.

"Not nearly fast enough," Cyrus taunted, his stance relaxed despite the power radiating from him.

Kane recovered with a snarl, silver foxfire blazing as he split into three identical copies.

The illusions flanked Cyrus while Kane darted low, his tails striking like whips from impossible angles.

"Cute trick," Cyrus said, his controlled burst of dragonfire dispersing the illusions instantly.

He caught Kane’s real tail mid-strike, using it to yank Kane forward into a devastating uppercut.

Kane twisted away at the last second, the blow grazing his jaw as he countered with a taunting smirk.

"Getting slow in your old age?"

Cyrus’s eyes flashed dangerously. He continued countering Kane’s every feint with perfect timing.

Within moments, Cyrus had Kane pinned against the mirrored wall, forearm pressed across Kane’s throat.

"Still relying on distraction instead of discipline," Cyrus murmured against Kane’s ear.

Kane snapped. Silver flames roared around him, his nine tails splitting the air like blades of pure energy.

The power of his fully awakened form erupted outward, shattering the mirrors behind him.

Cyrus responded instinctively. His pupils narrowed to slits, dragonfire flaring crimson-gold around his body as his aura blazed in response.

The floor trembled beneath their feet.

The explosion of conflicting energies threw them apart, silver and crimson lights colliding in a blast that left the training room smoking.

Both were left panting and bruised, their auras still flaring like dying stars.

Kane stumbled forward, still glowing faintly from residual foxfire, his legs unsteady from the power expenditure.

Cyrus caught him before he could fall, strong arms wrapping around Kane’s waist.

Their faces were inches apart, heat radiating off both their bodies like furnaces. On their skin, sweat shimmered, blending with the last of their auras’ light.

Kane’s hand slid up Cyrus’s chest, feeling the rapid thundering of the dragon’s heart.

Their breath mingled in the charged air between them, both struggling to catch their breath.

"So..." Kane whispered, his voice rough from exertion. "Who wins?"

Cyrus’s voice was low and dangerous.

"You tell me."
