The Fox And The Last Dragon
Chapter 100: Crimson Hunger, Silver Surrender
"We were everything," Cyrus whispered, then pulled back slightly, his expression growing more serious.
"But not lovers. Not in the way mortals understand it."
Kane’s brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"
"We were bonded, yes. But I was..." Cyrus struggled with the words, his fingers flexing at his sides.
"I was young then, in spirit if not in years. I understood duty, loyalty, and protection."
His voice dropped lower, more vulnerable.
"But I didn’t understand the endless longing. The way your absence felt like a physical ache. The need not just to guard you, but to hold you, to claim you as mine in every possible way."
Kane’s breath caught as understanding dawned.
"In this lifetime, you taught me what that longing meant. What it was to want someone not just as a companion or protected treasure, but as..."
"As a lover," Kane finished softly.
Cyrus nodded, stepping closer again.
"If you’ll accept me—" his voice dropped to barely above a whisper, "—this would be our first."
Kane’s pulse hammered as those red-gold eyes fixed on him with predatory intensity.
"If you’re gonna stare at me like I’m dinner, you might as well—"
Cyrus’s mouth crashed against his, cutting off the flippant words.
The kiss wasn’t soft or tentative—it was hungry, desperate, like a dam finally bursting after centuries of holding back the flood.
Kane stiffened for a heartbeat, shocked by the sudden contact.
Then something inside him snapped, and he melted into the kiss with a soft sound that was half-gasp, half-surrender.
His fingers curled into Cyrus’s expensive shirt, pulling him closer until there was no space left between them.
Their bond flared to life, visible heat dancing where their lips met.
The faint marks on Kane’s skin began to glow silver-white, responding to the crimson energy radiating from Cyrus.
They broke apart only to crash together again, breathless and desperate.
Kane’s lips were already swollen and sensitive as Cyrus claimed them again with bruising intensity.
Cyrus’s hands roamed Kane’s sides, mapping every line and curve through the fabric, while Kane’s fingers tangled in dark hair, pulling him impossibly closer.
Without warning, Cyrus pushed Kane back into the leather cushions, his body caging him in.
His hand braced against the couch cushion by Kane’s head, his knee between Kane’s legs.
His grip was gentle but unyielding—dragon instincts surfacing as he pinned Kane beneath him.
Kane gasped against his mouth, chest heaving as he looked up at Cyrus with amber eyes dark with want.
"So much for control, huh?"
The breathless tease sent fire racing through Cyrus’s veins.
A low growl rumbled from his chest as he dragged his lips along Kane’s jaw, trailing down to the sensitive skin of his throat.
"You drive me past control," he murmured against Kane’s pulse point, his voice rough with centuries of suppressed desire.
Kane shuddered beneath him, torn between breathless laughter and complete surrender. His hands fisted in Cyrus’s shirt as heat pooled low in his stomach.
The silver marks on his skin pulsed brighter, responding to every touch, every whispered breath against it.
Kane’s hands found the hem of Cyrus’s shirt, sliding beneath the fabric to map the heated skin underneath.
His fingertips traced the defined muscles of Cyrus’s abdomen, nails dragging lightly enough to make the dragon shudder.
"Kane," Cyrus breathed against his throat, voice rough with warning and want.
Those clever fingers continued their exploration, Kane’s touch bold and teasing as he discovered each sensitive spot that made Cyrus’s breath hitch.
Cyrus’s grip tightened on Kane’s hips in response, fingers digging into flesh through fabric, anchoring him possessively.
Their kisses grew hungrier, messier—all pretense of control abandoned.
Kane caught Cyrus’s lower lip between his teeth, biting down just hard enough to draw a sharp intake of breath.
Cyrus retaliated with a bruising kiss that claimed Kane’s mouth completely, leaving them both gasping when they broke apart.
The intensity overwhelmed Kane’s concentration.
His glamour flickered like a faulty lightbulb—silver-white fox ears materializing atop his head, his fluffy tail appearing against the leather cushions.
The temperature in the office spiked as Cyrus’s aura flared uncontrolled, crimson energy radiating from his skin like heat waves.
Kane’s fingers fumbled desperately at Cyrus’s collar, tugging the fabric aside to expose more of that heated skin.
His movements were clumsy with want, shaking hands betraying just how far gone he already was.
"If we don’t stop," Kane whispered breathlessly against Cyrus’s mouth, "we’re not stopping."
The words came out rough, half-warning and half-plea. His amber eyes searched Cyrus’s face, looking for hesitation, for sanity, for any reason to pull back from this precipice.
Instead, Cyrus’s pupils dilated further, red-gold irises blazing with raw hunger.
"Then don’t stop me," he replied, voice husky and thick with centuries of suppressed desire.
Kane’s heart hammered against his ribs so hard he was certain Cyrus could feel it through their pressed chests.
His tail twitched anxiously against the cushions while his ears flattened back in overwhelmed submission.
He was this close to surrendering completely—to throwing caution aside and letting the dragon claim him entirely.
Just then, the distant chime of the elevator door opening cut through the haze of desire like an alarm.
Kane’s eyes went wide with panic, and he practically shoved Cyrus off him, scrambling upright on the couch.
His face was flushed crimson, hair thoroughly mussed from Cyrus’s fingers, and shirt collar pulled completely out of shape and hanging askew.
His fox ears and tail vanished instantly as he fought to restore his glamour, hands shaking as he tried to smooth down his disheveled appearance.
Cyrus straightened his shirt, instantly composed on the outside. But his eyes burned crimson with barely contained frustration, pupils still dilated with unfulfilled desire.
Kane frantically tugged at his shirt, trying to make himself presentable while shooting Cyrus a look that was equal parts mortified and accusatory.
"How do you look like nothing happened?" he hissed under his breath, voice still rough from their kisses.
Cyrus’s jaw tightened almost imperceptibly, the only sign of his inner turmoil.
"Centuries of practice," he murmured back, but his hands briefly clenched at his sides before he forced them to relax.
The sound of approaching footsteps echoed in the hallway outside.
Kane ran his fingers through his hair one last time, praying he looked halfway decent, while Cyrus moved to stand behind his desk, using the furniture as a strategic barrier.
The office door opened with a soft click.
