Wen Xiu was startled at first, but then she turned toward the newcomer and saw that it was a servant from the Wen household.

“What happened?” Wen Xiu asked with a frown. She thought that her sister-in-law ought to be at home in the residence at this hour.

Yet the servant had come all the way to her for help, which clearly meant the situation was even more serious than she had imagined.

“Don’t panic. Let’s go over and take a look together,” Li Tingzhou quickly reassured her.

Hearing this, Wen Xiu had no time to concern herself with anything else and hurried toward the Wen residence next door.

The young servant followed closely behind her, secretly relieved. Fortunately, his mistress had married nearby, allowing him to come to the Li residence for help. Otherwise, the eldest young master would probably have been beaten to death by Madam.

As she walked, Wen Xiu wondered what could have happened.

Was something wrong with her sister-in-law, or had something happened to one of her nephews?

The moment she reached the main hall of the Wen residence, Wen Xiu saw Cheng Qingli confronting Wen Ziwen and Wen Yiheng.

“What’s going on?” Wen Xiu hurried forward and asked.

“Wen Xiu, you came at just the right time. Tell him what sort of girl is allowed to marry into our Wen family,” Cheng Qingli said. Seeing her sister-in-law return, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Good heavens, she had no idea what had gotten into this brat, Wen Yiheng. He had suddenly announced that he wanted to marry a girl.

The problem was that he did not even know the girl’s surname or given name. All he did was keep clamoring for her to arrange the marriage.

Even if she agreed to the match, the girl’s family would at least have to be respectable, and the girl could not already be betrothed.

“A-Heng, what happened?” Wen Xiu asked, looking at the young man beside her in confusion.

Her nephew had always been a sensible child. Why had he gotten into an argument with his mother today?

With that thought, Wen Xiu turned to comfort Cheng Qingli. “Sister-in-law, please don’t be angry. A-Heng is a sensible child. He surely wouldn’t act recklessly. We can guide him slowly.”

“This foolish boy came back and immediately told me to arrange a marriage for him. When I asked which family the girl was from, he refused to say,” Cheng Qingli said angrily. She wondered which little vixen had bewitched her son.

“Huh?” Wen Xiu froze for a moment.

Then she burst out laughing.

“Sister-in-law, I thought it was something serious. A-Heng has a girl he likes—that’s a happy occasion.” Hearing this, Wen Xiu felt relieved.

In the capital, as long as the girl had not already been promised to someone else, it should not be too difficult for A-Heng to marry whoever he wished.

“Then he still has to tell us who she is. If he wants to marry some girl from Spring Breeze Pavilion, Miss Yao, I can’t simply indulge him,” Cheng Qingli said helplessly.

In truth, she had never said she opposed the marriage. But he had only declared that he wanted to marry the girl. Where was she supposed to go to arrange the match? She did not even know which door belonged to the prospective in-laws.

“A-Heng, where did you meet this girl today? Do you know which family’s young lady she is?” Wen Xiu asked, turning to Wen Yiheng.

“I don’t know. But Niannian seemed to be with her,” Wen Yiheng replied, thinking of Niannian, though even he sounded uncertain.

“She ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍was with Mingyue?” Wen Xiu was troubled now. After all, Li Mingyue’s favorite person to play with was Xiao Tao.

Could it be that A-Heng had taken a fancy to that vulgar Xiao Tao?

“Yes! She was an incredibly beautiful girl. I’ve never seen her in the capital before. Aunt, you have to help me with this!” The moment Wen Yiheng thought of Niannian, he grabbed Wen Xiu’s hand.

“A-Heng, I can’t promise you that just yet.” Wen Xiu finally understood the helplessness Cheng Qingli had felt earlier.

How could she agree to something like this so carelessly?

The girl’s identity was still unknown.

“See? That’s exactly how he acted earlier.” Cheng Qingli spread her hands, utterly speechless.

“Aunt, I don’t need you to give me any money. I have money. Just help me make an appearance,” Wen Yiheng hurriedly explained, assuming Wen Xiu was worried that she could not afford it.

“You little brat, how much money could you possibly have? You think that little bit will be enough to marry a wife?” Cheng Qingli could not resist putting down her own son.

“Wen Xiu, do you know who this boy is talking about?” Cheng Qingli asked. She felt that she ought to find out more about the girl’s background first. She could not agree blindly.

“Sister-in-law, among the girls who are close to Mingyue, there’s only one Miss Xiao. But recently, that Miss Xiao seems to have gotten herself into some sort of trouble.” Wen Xiu spoke with some difficulty.

“It’s not that affected Xiao Tao woman!” Wen Yiheng immediately denied it without even thinking.

He had met Xiao Tao several times and did not like her in the slightest.

As for Xiao Jin’s schemes, if he had not been worried about upsetting Mingyue, he would have already dragged that hateful woman away from his cousin.

“Not Xiao Tao?” Wen Xiu was puzzled as well. If it was not Xiao Tao, she had never heard that Mingyue was close to any other young lady.

“Just today, Mingyue was out shopping with that girl,” Wen Yiheng hurriedly added.

“Sister-in-law, why don’t you call Mingyue over and ask her? Then we’ll know,” Cheng Qingli said with a frown.

Mingyue was family, after all. There was no need for them to keep guessing among themselves.

“Niannian has been staying at Zhiwei’s place lately. I’ve already sent someone to bring her back,” Wen Xiu hurriedly explained.

“Niannian has been staying at Prince An’s residence?” Cheng Qingli asked in surprise. No wonder she hadn’t seen Mingyue much lately—it turned out she really hadn’t been at the Li residence.

“Yes. Niannian has come back, and her aunt missed her, so she went over to stay for a while,” Wen Xiu said with a smile.

“So you mean Niannian has been with Mingyue these past few days?” Cheng Qingli’s eyes lit up at once.

Could it be that her son had inherited her good taste and taken a fancy to Niannian as well?

The thought that her son might be able to marry Niannian and bring her home sent Cheng Qingli into a state of excitement.

“Wen Xiu, what do you think of Niannian marrying Yiheng?” Cheng Qingli asked eagerly.

“Sister-in-law, it’s not that I object. I just think it’ll be difficult. You know what Prince An is like. Niannian is the person he dotes on most…” Wen Xiu looked at Cheng Qingli awkwardly. She truly didn’t dare promise anything regarding this matter.

“I’ve always said that Niannian should become my daughter-in-law,” Cheng Qingli continued, still lost in her own fantasy.

“Aunt, what’s wrong with my mother?” Wen Yiheng asked, looking at the smug smile on Cheng Qingli’s face. He felt a little uneasy.

Could his mother have come down with some sort of illness?

“Nothing. She’s just dreaming,” Wen Xiu said helplessly.

“Aunt, weren’t you going to help me propose?” Wen Yiheng scratched his head. “Why has my mother started dreaming instead?”

He couldn’t help thinking that his mother really was unreliable.

“Go to bed early, child. You can have anything in your dreams.” With that, Wen Xiu shook her head and decided not to bother with the mother and son any longer.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to help. She was simply powerless to do anything.

Prince An’s Residence

Niannian had been sneezing nonstop.

“Sister Nian Nian, have you caught a cold?” Kong Shuyin asked, touching Niannian’s forehead. It wasn’t hot at all.
