Zhiya was stunned when she heard this. She had not expected the Old Princess to ask about that.
However, when she thought of Li Zhiwei’s condition, she could not say with complete certainty that Weiwei’s coma had nothing to do with her pregnancy.
Whether the pregnancy had affected her was truly difficult to determine.
After all, she had also heard that Li Zhiwei was carrying twins.
“Ya’er, is it dangerous?” Lady Yao asked nervously, looking at the adopted daughter she had just acknowledged.
“It isn’t particularly dangerous. I can’t say there’s no connection at all, but while Sister’s coma may have something to do with her pregnancy, that isn’t the primary cause.” Zhiya thought for a moment before answering honestly.
“Then will Weiwei continue to remain unconscious?” Lady Yao asked worriedly. When the Old Princess heard this, her heart tightened as well.
For a moment, Zhiya did not know how to answer Lady Yao’s question. She could only reply seriously, “Mother, rest assured. If Sister is still unconscious because of the same reason as before, I will certainly be able to wake her.”
Lady Yao was about to ask another question, but she saw that Zhiya had lowered her head and clearly did not intend to say anything more.
Elsewhere, Xu Heming found Imperial Physician Zhou.
“Prince An!” Imperial Physician Zhou did not seem surprised that Xu Heming had come to see him.
“Imperial Physician Zhou.” Xu Heming coughed lightly before turning to look at him. With great seriousness, he asked, “My princess consort is pregnant. How is her condition?”
“Princess Consort of An and the child in her womb are both doing quite well. If Prince An is worried, this subordinate can come regularly to take her pulse and ensure all is well.” Imperial Physician Zhou thought to himself that Prince An clearly cared a great deal about his princess consort.
Neither of them noticed the small head peeking from a corner nearby, secretly listening to their conversation.
Who else could it be but Xu Qingshi?
“Imperial Physician Zhou, is there any way to make the child in my princess consort’s womb disappear without anyone knowing?” After thinking it over, Xu Heming finally asked in a low voice.
Xu Qingshi’s eyes widened. He had never expected his father to not want the child in his mother’s womb.
At that thought, Xu Qingshi hurried toward Banyue Pavilion. No, he had to protect his mother and his unborn brothers.
He could not let his father hurt them.
The two men involved in the conversation had no idea that Xu Qingshi had overheard everything.
“Your Highness, Princess Consort of An is in good health. If she miscarried, it would instead be even more harmful to her body.” Imperial Physician Zhou could not understand why Xu Heming did not want Li Zhiwei to give birth to the two children.
Could it be that the children did not belong to Prince An?
At this thought, Imperial Physician Zhou felt that he had discovered some earth-shattering secret. Still, he only dared to scream about it inwardly.
“You should know that the princess consort was unconscious for such a long time before. I’m worried that Weiwei’s body won’t be able to bear carrying two children…” Xu Heming pressed his lips together, his eyes filled with deep concern for Li Zhiwei.
“Your Highness, have you asked the princess consort what she wants?” Imperial Physician Zhou cautiously studied Xu Heming. He remembered that Li Zhiwei had been very happy when she found out she was pregnant.
“Prince An, in this subordinate’s opinion, Princess Consort of An’s body is perfectly capable of bearing children. However, since she is carrying twins, she will simply need to be more careful than other women. Besides…” Imperial Physician Zhou was somewhat confused. Bearing children was only natural for a woman, so why did it seem so dangerous now that it involved Prince An?
Although there were risks, they could not refuse to have the children simply because of them, could they?
The imperial consorts in the palace were all doing everything they could to conceive the emperor’s child as soon as possible.
However, twins were considered an ill omen in the imperial family. That would not be a problem in Prince An’s household, though. After all, Prince An did not need to inherit the throne, and he already had an eldest son.
There was no fear of the two children competing for the position of heir. At this thought, Imperial Physician Zhou’s gaze toward Xu Heming became rather ambiguous.
“I don’t want Weiwei to face even the slightest danger,” Xu Heming said with displeasure.
“Prince An, as long as you control Princess Consort of An’s diet and make sure she avoids overly nourishing foods, this pregnancy will not endanger her life.” Imperial Physician Zhou thought for a moment before speaking with utmost seriousness.
“You still haven’t answered my question.” Xu Heming looked at Imperial Physician Zhou with clear dissatisfaction.
“Prince An, have you asked Princess Consort of An for her opinion? In this subordinate’s view, she is eagerly looking forward to the children’s birth.” Imperial Physician Zhou tried to persuade him cautiously.
“What? Could it be that Imperial Physician Zhou doesn’t know how to induce a miscarriage?” Xu Heming shot him a cold glance. He could not understand why this imperial physician was being so annoyingly long-winded.
“I can. However, Prince An, I’m afraid that you may regret it someday and take it out on me.” At this point, Imperial Physician Zhou sounded rather frightened. If Xu Heming sought revenge against him later, his old bones would never withstand the consequences.
“Give it to me!” Xu Heming held out his hand for the prescription.
“No, Your Highness, this really isn’t safe. If Princess Consort of An takes it, she might lose both the child and her own life!” Imperial Physician Zhou thought that since Prince An cared about his princess consort, perhaps saying this would stop him from going through with it.
“Isn’t there any other way? Some gentler medicine that could make the child disappear without harming Weiwei?” Xu Heming looked at the prescription in his hand with distaste.
“There isn’t!” Imperial Physician Zhou answered without a second thought when he saw Xu Heming’s deeply furrowed brows.
Yet inwardly, he felt a little guilty. In truth, Li Zhiwei had been pregnant for less than two months. If she miscarried at this point, the harm to her body would not be particularly severe.
But he was afraid!
He was afraid that Prince An would regret it later and blame him for providing the prescription. That was a consequence he could not bear.
As for whether Prince An might ask someone else, that was not his concern. So long as the prescription did not come from him, Prince An would have no reason to hold him responsible.
“Everyone says that Imperial Physician Zhou is the most skilled physician in the Imperial Medical Institute. Now I see that you’re nothing special.” Xu Heming dropped the prescription Imperial Physician Zhou had just written and walked away.
He planned to ask that old scoundrel Jun Mowen later. Yet even he felt that Jun Mowen might be even less reliable than this Imperial Physician Zhou.
“Prince An, this subordinate truly isn’t an expert in inducing miscarriages!” Imperial Physician Zhou said ingratiatingly.
As if! He was an imperial physician serving in the palace. How could he dare claim to be skilled in inducing miscarriages?
The imperial heirs were treasures in the palace—who would dare induce a miscarriage?
If he really were proficient in such techniques, that would be the true problem.
At this thought, Imperial Physician Zhou wiped the cold sweat from his forehead again. He told himself that Prince An truly was not someone to provoke. At the same time, he congratulated himself for not agreeing to help Princess Consort of An miscarry.
Otherwise, there was no telling how Xu Heming might deal with him in the future.
“Imperial Physician Zhou, I truly suspect that you used some special method to get into the Imperial Medical Institute.” Xu Heming tossed aside the prescription Imperial Physician Zhou had just written and left.
