Chapter 371: Chapter 309: This Is the Book You Stole, ’How to Attract Female Pigs for Mating’?
The violent fluctuation of Magic Power in the reception room kept Mamadou hidden inside the stone wall. He could sense that the two old geezers outside were tough customers. If he showed his face while they were fighting, he wouldn’t even count as cannon fodder.
Driven by his professional instincts, he waited quietly for ten seconds. Once the Magic Power fluctuations had mostly subsided, he emerged from the wall, his body still wrapped in rock.
Two bodies, both having met horrific ends, lay at opposite ends of the room. One wore a green and white robe, though most of it was now stained red with blood. A large pool of blood had formed beneath him; it was clear he had bled out almost completely. The other was strange—strictly speaking, it was two "half-men." Their bodies were connected, lying in a puddle of yellow liquid, their forms so blackened that their faces were unrecognizable.
"Jeez, what kind of grudge was this? They went straight for the kill," Mamadou remarked. "Such a gruesome way to die... must have been some vicious Magic. Good thing I didn’t risk coming out earlier." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
But then, he felt something was wrong. The surface of the rocky skin enveloping him was cracking and turning to dust. It seemed some invisible substance was corroding the stone. ’No, I have to get out of here fast, or I’ll end up dead too.’
He immediately scanned his surroundings, confirming that the only ways out were the main door and the window. ’I wonder if the other Church members sensed the Magic Power fluctuations. I need to be quick, before they get here.’
With that, he prepared to leave through the main door. But just as he turned, that indescribable professional instinct washed over him again. ’Since I’m already here, I can’t just leave empty-handed.’
At this thought, Mamadou gritted his teeth and scanned the entire reception room again.
Because of the battle between the two High Tier Mages, the entire reception room was heavily damaged. Many books and wooden panels had been corroded, and cracks had appeared on the surfaces of some walls. The large desk in the center was now covered in a thick layer of white mycelium, with clusters of red-and-black Mushrooms sprouting from it.
"Something doesn’t feel right," Mamadou said to himself, sensing the fluctuations in the room. His intuition told him that a faint pulse of Magic Power was coming from a corner of the desk, which had turned into a Mushroom-growing medium. ’Is there something there?’
He carefully avoided the bloodstains and yellow liquid on the floor and walked over. The closer he got, the more clearly he could feel a strange fluctuation of Magic Power.
Mamadou soon discovered that a drawer at the bottom of the desk seemed to have a Magic Restriction placed on it, likely to seal something inside.
"This is tricky," Mamadou muttered, tilting his head to study the desk. ’It’s covered in these weird Mushrooms, and they look dangerous. If I touch it rashly, who knows what will happen.’ He quickly weighed his options, wondering if he should just give up. ’But... this Bishop guy clearly intended to protect this thing with powerful Magic before he died. Whatever’s inside must be extremely valuable.’
Just as he was thinking, he suddenly heard the sound of running from down the corridor, along with someone shouting. ’Someone must have found out. Crap, I can’t use the main door anymore.’
At this thought, Mamadou glanced at his rocky exterior. An Earth Element Coordination of 93 allowed him to barely maintain his Petrification Armor, but the invisible substance was still corroding it relentlessly. The Armor was about to crumble completely into dust.
"Guess this is the only way," Mamadou said with a frown, then began to chant a Spell loudly in Beastman Speech. It was an old habit of his; whenever he got anxious, he would unconsciously start speaking in Beastman Speech.
As the Spell was chanted, the section of wall with the window collapsed inward with a BOOM, revealing a large hole. Then, the rubble that had fallen to the floor began to float, quickly coalescing into a giant hand of stone.
Mamadou controlled the hand, having it shove the mushroom-covered desk. HISS... Wisps of gray smoke rose from the palm of the giant stone hand. ’Good thing the Stone Hand is thick enough to resist the corrosion for now.’
Then, with a low shout, Mamadou forcefully pushed the Stone Hand out, sending it and the mushroom-covered desk tumbling out through the gaping hole in the wall.
Immediately after, Mamadou leaped through the hole in the wall, plummeting down from the third floor.
At the same time Mamadou shot out of the room, a giant Mushroom fruiting body rapidly grew from Bishop Luther’s corpse. The fruiting body’s mycelium had already covered the entire corpse, and the blood that had pooled out slowly flowed back, as if it were being absorbed by the filaments.
The white fruiting body gradually took on a human form. It soon revealed facial features, and within a few seconds, it had grown into the spitting image of Bishop Luther.
With a BANG, the office door was thrown open, and several Priests from the Earth and Life Church rushed in. "Lord Bishop, what happened? Are you all right?"
But unfortunately, they never got the chance to say another word. To their horror, they discovered a series of yellow blisters erupting on their skin. The blisters then burst, causing even more to appear.
"Don’t come in! It’s dangerous! Prioritize treating the wounded," Bishop Luther’s voice rang out. He appeared completely composed in the face of crisis, directing the Monks and Druids to handle the emergency. "The one who attacked me was Cunningham, a High Tier Great Mage of Darkness wanted by the Magic Federation. He has already escaped."
