The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective
Chapter 1112 - 570: Another Unsolved Homicide Case
At this moment, in the interrogation room, Qin Feng and Wan were still engaged in a tense interrogation.
Although Qin Feng was 80% sure that the man in front of him, Zhang Xiang, had issues, Zhang answered flawlessly, always leaving Qin without obvious contradictions.
This wasn’t surprising – Zhang could plan so intricately beforehand and later switched the remains in the coffin, showing he had prepared thoroughly.
Seeing that a direct confrontation couldn’t break the other’s psychological defenses, Qin Feng understood – this battle required a different approach.
"Since you’re insistent, we’ll set aside the case from back then. A different question – what were you doing going up the mountain in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?"
Zhang Xiang raised his head, "What, can’t I go up the mountain?"
"You can." Qin Feng nodded, "But why tonight?"
"Tonight, I wanted to go hunting." Zhang Xiang answered quickly.
"Hunting?" Qin Feng repeated.
"What, no?" Zhang Xiang slightly raised his chin, and a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, "I wasn’t hunting a protected wild animal. Even if you arrest me, at most it’s an administrative penalty, right?"
Qin Feng, hearing this, smiled and said, "A doctor sure knows quite a bit about the law."
"If it’s pigeons and over 20, it constitutes illegal hunting. I’m aware of that."
"But tonight, you probably weren’t hunting." Qin Feng shifted his tone, looking directly at the opponent, "Hunting, where are your tools?"
"I threw them away!" Zhang Xiang answered without hesitation.
"Threw them where?"
"In the valley."
"Why throw them?"
"You all came to arrest me, so should I hold onto the tools and be caught in the act?" Zhang Xiang’s speed of speech gradually quickened, "Without tools, you say I’m hunting without evidence. Moreover, I have no hunted game in hand, what can you do to me?"
As soon as he finished speaking, a muffled sound exploded.
Guan Yuhang abruptly slapped the table, his palm landing on the surface with a heavy "thud."
"Zhang Xiang!" His voice was low but extremely oppressive, "Don’t you dare!" I dealt with you so many times when I was in the police station. I always thought you were a simple person; I never thought you’d be so beastly to do such a thing!"
"Who are you calling beastly?" Zhang Xiang’s face instantly turned red, Adam’s apple moving violently, "That’s an insult! I’m telling you, tonight when your police dog chased me, it bit my right leg. If it gets infected with rabies, you’ll have to take off your uniform for me!"
He became increasingly agitated, his voice almost trembling, "I warn you, once I’m out, the first thing I’ll do is report you!"
"You’ve not only insulted my character but harmed my psyche, causing serious damage to my rights to physical health!"
"I studied medicine. Rabies might linger in the body for years. If it’s already in my body, I’ll live with that shadow, mental torment you can afford?"
"When I’m out, I’ll find a lawyer, and the mental distress compensation won’t be a penny less! I will surely sue you to bankruptcy."
Qin Feng quietly listened, but his smile deepened in view as he glanced at Wan, "Oh, today we met someone who knows the law?"
"Mental distress compensation? What a joke! By your logic, after handling cases for so many years, catching so many people, should I compensate each one? My salary wouldn’t be enough to pay all of you."
"I don’t care!" Zhang Xiang almost shouted, "And – today during the day, you dug up the grave of my wife Li Ailing and took out the remains! That’s desecrating a corpse! Legally it’s desecration of a corpse, a crime, you’re going to jail!"
At these words, Qin Feng’s smile abruptly froze.
He turned his head, exchanged a glance with Wan beside him.
Their eyes flashed with a hint of surprise – a normal exhumation was misinterpreted as desecration?
That was not just sophistry, but utter nonsense.
The interrogation room fell into a brief silence.
Qin Feng took a deep breath, slowly stood up, looking down at Zhang Xiang.
"Stop this nonsense! You think you can escape by saying nothing?"
He paused, his gaze sharp as a knife, "Let me tell you, I’ve been a Detective Captain for almost six years."
"Drug dealers, murderers, I’ve seen plenty. No one who sits in this room leaves smiling."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Xiang’s chest just heaved, glaring at Qin Feng.
After a while, Qin Feng patted Wan’s shoulder, "Let’s go, get some fresh air, let him think it over."
Just as they walked out, Qin Feng’s phone rang, caller ID showing Chen Guan.
"Hello? Mr. Chen."
"Mr. Qin, tough interrogation. I watched your process earlier."
"Zhang Xiang is indeed a tough nut; let’s meet in the conference room to discuss the next interrogation strategy."
Hearing this, Qin Feng glanced back at the interrogation room, deeply sighed, and said, "Alright, I’ll be right over. Let him stew for a while."
At this moment, it’s already half-past five in the morning.
In the east, a faint light can be seen.
The third-floor conference room is filled with smoke.
Chen Guan, Director Hou, Jiang An, and others are already waiting in the conference room.
Qin Feng and Wan walked in, both looking weary.
After they sat down, Chen Guan took two cigarettes from a pack and tossed them over, "Come on, have a smoke to calm down."
