Chapter 64: Chapter 64: A Day of Being Scammed by the Dramatic Little Black Snake

"SCREECH?"

The Canglan Hunting Eagle didn’t understand why Liang He had told him to stop, but he obediently opened his beak. Elias, who was dropped heavily into the snow, felt relieved that a snowbank was there to cushion his fall; otherwise, he feared he might have been squashed flat.

"Lanton, haven’t I taught you not to eat random things? What if it’s poisonous?"

Liang He stared at the Canglan Hunting Eagle with a face full of disapproval, completely oblivious to the Little Black Snake in the snow—so much so that she accidentally stepped on him.

"HISS!"

The sharp sound startled Liang He. She lowered her head slightly and finally spotted a sliver of black amidst the vast whiteness, hastily apologizing.

"Sorry, sorry, Little Black Snake, I didn’t see you just now."

Elias thought, "Is it my fault I’m small and inconspicuous?"

"Hiss..."

Hearing the Little Black Snake’s long, mournful, and weak hiss, Liang He couldn’t bear it. She scooped him up from the snowbank.

"Where did you come from, Little Black Snake?"

Logically speaking, winter was hibernation season for snakes. Not only had this Little Black Snake failed to hibernate obediently, but he was also slithering around everywhere, nearly getting himself killed in Lanton’s beak.

"Hiss..."

Elias thought, "What do you care where I came from? Now that I’ve been injured by the beast you’re raising, you have to take care of me!"

Elias, who had planned to run a scam to leech off her in the first place, seized the opportunity. He started pretending to be dizzy and hurt.

"Little Black Snake? Little Black Snake? You couldn’t have actually been bitten to death by Lanton, right?"

Liang He doubtfully inspected the spot where the Little Black Snake had just been bitten, only to find a slight bite mark that was nothing serious.

"Could he have fainted from hunger?"

Deep in thought with her brows furrowed, Liang He didn’t notice the Little Black Snake sneakily open an eye, but the Canglan Hunting Eagle saw right through the act.

"SCREECH!"

The Canglan Hunting Eagle tried to snatch the Little Black Snake out of Liang He’s hand and toss him far away, but Liang He lightly tapped his upper beak.

"Lanton, you can’t do that. He’s still alive."

The snake didn’t look venomous. If he were actually dead, it wouldn’t matter if the Canglan Hunting Eagle ate him, but since he was still alive, Liang He couldn’t just let him be killed.

The Fierce Beasts probably thought, "Have you forgotten all the times you treated us like plushies to poke at?"

"Screech..."

The Canglan Hunting Eagle drooped his head in aggrievement. He had clearly been trying to save the two-legged beast, yet this bad snake was faking a faint to frame him and deceive her!

"Alright, alright, I know you were trying to save me. Lanton is such a good boy. I like you so much."

Unable to bear seeing the Beasts feel wronged, Liang He hurriedly comforted him, stroking his feathers and petting his head, coaxing the Canglan Hunting Eagle for quite a while.

Lanton, dizzy from all the coaxing, couldn’t be bothered to argue with the Little Black Snake anymore and affectionately nuzzled Liang He’s hair.

"By the way, what should I do with this Little Black Snake? If I leave him in the snow, will he freeze to death?"

Liang He, who had always preferred fluffy creatures, really didn’t know much about snakes. She shook the Little Black Snake in her hand, trying to wake him up. Whether Elias was just too good at acting or actually ended up getting dizzy from Liang He shaking him, the end result was that Liang He took the Little Black Snake back with her.

"Doctor Xu! Quick, come take a look at this snake for me!"

Liang He spotted Xu Yi right away, grabbed him, and held the dizzy Little Black Snake up to his face.

"Holy crap! Where did you get a snake?"

Startled by the sudden visual impact, Xu Yi stumbled three steps back before he recovered his wits.

"I found him in the woods."

Liang He instinctively concealed the fact that the Canglan Hunting Eagle had caught the snake.

"Then why has he fainted? Frozen?"

Seeing that the Little Black Snake wasn’t moving an inch in Liang He’s hand, Xu Yi finally mustered the courage to lean closer. To be honest, he was a little terrified of this kind of cold, slippery animal.

"Uh... I accidentally stepped on him."

Liang He gave Xu Yi a guilty smile. Mimicking the fluffy creatures when they begged for mercy after making a mistake, she blinked her big, innocent eyes.

"So, after nearly angering Gali to death last time, you’ve now almost crushed a snake to death with your foot?"

Xu Yi gave her a thumbs-up for her inexplicably high attack power, completely ignoring Liang He’s increasingly dark expression.

"Doctor Xu, if you don’t know how to speak like a decent human being, you don’t have to say anything at all. I get the picture."

Fuming, Liang He didn’t even want Xu Yi’s help anymore. She turned around, hopped onto her hovercraft, and flew toward the Seventh Service Area with her fluffy companions.

Left behind mercilessly, Xu Yi scratched his head in bewilderment. Spotting Hoder passing by, he grabbed him.

"Did I provoke her just now?"

"What do you think?"

Hoder scoffed, patting Xu Yi’s shoulder meaningfully.

"Doctor Xu, you’d better prepare to stay single for the rest of your life for the sake of your veterinary career."

Being a clueless guy was fine, but a clueless guy with a venomous mouth simply deserved to stay single.

After returning to the service area with her large family, Liang He immediately placed the Little Black Snake into an incubator. It was a good thing the wolf cubs didn’t need the incubator, otherwise the Little Black Snake wouldn’t have necessarily gotten to enjoy such VIP treatment.

Now safely on the ground, Elias quietly observed the interior of the animal dormitory through the glass of the incubator, discovering that it was even more warm and adorable than he had imagined.

He found it deeply annoying to realize that those idiots were genuinely cherished by Liang He.

"Alright, wipe your little paws clean. I’ll go make some goat’s milk for you all."

Liang He laid out a paw-wiping towel at the door. The Beasts automatically and cooperatively rubbed their paws on it, obedient beyond belief. Seeing them so orderly, Liang He went to the kitchen and started mixing the goat’s milk powder.

"It looks like we need to restock the goat’s milk powder soon, too."

Liang He planned to buy some more supplies when she purchased the necessities for the Snow Festival. Ever since Jiao Jiao and the panda cub arrived at the service area and got to drink their bowl milk every day, the other fluffy creatures strongly demanded equal treatment, all of them staring longingly at Liang He in unison.

As everyone knew, sometimes not fighting for it was the ultimate way of fighting for it. Left with no choice, Liang He had to increase her daily workload and routinely arrange bowl milk for all of them.

"Hiss~"

Just as she finished placing the bowls of milk in front of the Beasts sitting in a neat row, Liang He heard a hissing sound coming from the incubator. It seemed the Little Black Snake had woken up.

"Little Black Snake?"

"Hiss~"

Smelling the aroma of the bowl milk, Elias unconsciously swallowed his saliva. He had been hiding in the forest for a long time and couldn’t make a big fuss about hunting. Though he had been faking a faint, he was actually quite hungry.

"Do you want to drink some goat’s milk, too?"

Seeing the Little Black Snake staring eagerly at the Beasts drinking their goat’s milk, Liang He understood completely and brought him a small bowl as well.

It wasn’t that Liang He was stingy. The Little Black Snake looked barely thicker than her thumb, and his length could wrap around her wrist two or three times at most. She was afraid that if she fed him too much, he would eat himself to death.

"Since you’re awake, after you finish your goat’s milk, how about I go outside and find a place for you to hibernate?"

THUMP.

As soon as Liang He’s words fell, the Little Black Snake threw himself heavily onto the mat in the incubator, acting as if he had fallen deeply unconscious. Liang He was so stunned she almost couldn’t react.

Wait, was even a snake this much of a drama queen nowadays, bursting into an impromptu performance and fainting on command?

"If you’re willing to, and want to stay..."

"Hiss~"

Alright, this time, before Liang He could even finish her sentence, the Little Black Snake who had just "fainted" on the mat instantly sprang back up and continued drinking his goat’s milk.

Seeing this, how could Liang He not understand? She had actually fallen for a snake’s scam, and now he was leeching off her!
