Chapter 49: Chapter 49: The Fluffy One’s Competitive Spirit Is Really Exhausting

"Governor Huo, I’d like to apply for two resident veterinarians and breeders."

With more and more animals in the service area, Liang He was becoming increasingly busy.

Currently, Xu Yi was still able to stay and help because of the Silver Moon Wolf. Once he left, only Liang He and Hoder would remain, and they probably wouldn’t be able to handle all the work.

"There’s a limited number of veterinarians in the Animal Protection Zone. If we request a transfer from the Federal Animal Research Institute, it will also take some time."

Under normal circumstances, apart from the Main Service Area, other service areas didn’t assign resident staff unless absolutely necessary, such as caring for injured animals. This was primarily out of caution regarding beastmen in their Evolutionary Stage. After all, their territorial instincts were incredibly strong. If a conflict broke out, it wouldn’t be good for anyone to get hurt.

Liang He was an exception, as well as a happy accident.

"That’s fine. As long as the personnel are in place before Xu Yi leaves, it’ll work."

Based on Liang He’s observations, Xu Yi was still quite fascinated by the Silver Moon Wolf, so he could probably hold out for a while longer. If worse came to worst, she would just find a way to make Xu Yi volunteer to stay in the Seventh Service Area!

"Alright, I’ll contact the Animal Research Institute as soon as possible."

Huo An, oblivious to the fact that Liang He was already plotting how to poach his personnel, was on his way to the law enforcement department within the Animal Protection Zone. Word had it that new clues had been uncovered from the Light Brain left by Dass.

"Governor Huo, these are the new clues we found in the Dass Light Brain."

Kerry, the captain of the Law Enforcement Team, handed over the results of their investigation from the past few days to Huo An.

"Ever since we discovered that the teammates we sent to track the Rebel Army had gone missing, we sped up the decryption of the Dass Light Brain."

Losing all traces of their teammates with no news whatsoever had plunged the entire law enforcement department into a state of anger and anxiety. They were itching to locate the Rebel Army’s stronghold and rescue their comrades as soon as possible.

"The conclusion we can draw from the currently known information is that there is still a Rebel Army spy inside the Animal Protection Zone."

"Are you sure?"

Huo An furrowed his brows tightly. He hadn’t expected that under his layers of strict control, the Rebel Army would still manage to exploit a loophole in the Animal Protection Zone.

"Almost certain. However, these few individuals were likely just following Dass’s orders, completely unaware that he had defected to the Rebel Army."

Every new arrival at the Tianyao Star Royal Key Animal Protection Zone underwent rigorous background checks and was only permitted to stay if they passed, just like Liang He had in the beginning. Therefore, even if the Rebel Army wanted to plant more spies in the Animal Protection Zone, it would be extremely difficult.

"But this person is different from Dass. He has been an undercover agent for the Rebel Army infiltrating the Animal Protection Zone from the very beginning."

Kerry specifically pointed out one individual. The moment Huo An saw the person’s identity, his pupils constricted.

It was actually him?!

It was someone unexpected, yet entirely expected by Huo An.

"Indeed. If it were him, he could have smuggled the Dark Night Wolf King out of the Animal Protection Zone without drawing anyone’s attention."

Huo An ordered Kerry to keep things under wraps for now. With the enemy out in the open and themselves in the shadows, it would actually be more advantageous for their upcoming operations.

"Also, there is a matter I need your cooperation with..."

While Huo An and Kerry plotted their arrest operation, Liang He—having just finished feeding basin milk to the Iron-eating Beast and the panda cub, and serving extra meals to the Canglan Hunting Eagle and the others—was cuddling with her fluffy companions as they watched a new cartoon: Lion King.

"AWOO!"

Perhaps tigers and lions simply didn’t get along; the moment the Mojin King Tiger saw the lions on the screen, he entered a combat-ready state.

"Cedriel, this is a cartoon. It’s not a real lion."

Liang He pulled the Mojin King Tiger into her arms, soothing him softly. She then glanced at the Canglan Hunting Eagle and the Mengji Snow Leopard, only to find them also looking restless and eager for a fight.

Feeling a slight headache coming on, Liang He began to wonder if she should switch to a different cartoon. Never mind. Having them united against a common external enemy to foster internal harmony wasn’t a bad idea either.

At this time, Liang He didn’t know that her momentary indulgence would plant the seeds for a hilariously absurd group brawl.

"SCREECH?"

When he saw the Red-beaked Curved-billed Rhinoceros Bird, the Canglan Hunting Eagle suddenly flew up to the screen. He tilted his head in curious observation before puffing up his chest and raising his head, determined to compete with it.

"Lanton, it isn’t bigger than you. It’s just magnified on the screen, which is giving you an illusion."

She figured there was absolutely no need to compare.

"SCREECH!"

As if receiving validation and praise, the Canglan Hunting Eagle flew back to his tree in satisfaction and continued watching the cartoon.

Before Liang He could even catch her breath, the Mengji Snow Leopard was up.

"MEOW!"

This time, his target was the spotted hyenas.

It was hard to say whether he simply hated the spotted hyenas in the cartoon or had encountered annoying spotted hyenas in the past. Either way, the Mengji Snow Leopard had already bared his fangs and claws, lowering his body in preparation to attack.

With a CLICK, the screen went completely black. Liang He had shut it off directly.

"Alright, alright. It’s getting late. Good boys need to go to bed early."

Liang He chuckled, trying to coax her fluffy companions to sleep. She figured that to ensure the screen’s safety, it would be better to play a different cartoon next time.

However, likely having their competitive spirits roused, every single fluffy creature present was wide awake and energetic, showing absolutely no signs of wanting to sleep. Left with no other choice, Liang He eventually opened the doors to the animal dormitory.

"Go out and get some fresh air, but don’t get too excited. Come back and go to sleep when you’ve had enough."

After letting the Mengji Snow Leopard and the others out, Liang He went to check on the Iron-eating Beast and the panda cub. Compared to the three currently sprinting wildly through the snow and soaring through the night sky, these two had already fallen into a deep slumber, looking incredibly well-behaved and adorable.

"Why are you here again?"

Xu Yi, who was keeping watch and applying medicine to the Silver Moon Wolf, couldn’t help but tease Liang He when he saw her checking on the Iron-eating Beast and the panda cub again.

"You’re paying so much attention to them. Be careful the other few don’t get jealous."

Raising fluffy companions was just like raising children. Showing favoritism could easily create a disharmonious situation. Even though the Mojin King Tiger and the others were so huge, when it came to Liang He, they could be incredibly petty.

"You’re overthinking it. I just came to take a look while Leopard and the others are out getting some fresh air."

Liang He wasn’t the type of biased parent; she treated all her fluffy companions equally. She wholeheartedly loved and protected every single one of them, just as they wholeheartedly trusted her.

"Getting fresh air? They still aren’t asleep this late?"

Xu Yi was a little surprised. Ever since Liang He started feeding the Mojin King Tiger, they had subtly developed the habit of going to bed early and waking up early. Tonight was quite a rarity.

"Sigh... don’t even mention it."

Liang He vented to Xu Yi about what had just happened while playing Lion King. Not only did she receive no comfort, but she was met with a round of mockery.

"Haha! What were you thinking, actually making them watch Lion King? Isn’t that obviously going to trigger their desire to fight?"

"..."

Ruthlessly mocked, Liang He’s silence was deafening. She really wanted to gag Xu Yi’s mouth. Dammit!

Just as Liang He was about to turn and leave, she suddenly noticed something wasn’t quite right with the Mengji Snow Leopard and the others. They forcefully slammed open the main gates of the service area and dashed out with wild roars, disappearing from sight in the blink of an eye.

"ROAR!"

"AWOO!"

"SCREECH!"

At the exact moment the roars sounded, the Silver Moon Wolf lying in the medical room and the Iron-eating Beast sleeping with the panda cub in its arms both opened their eyes, staring sharply into the distance.
