Chapter 232: Chapter 232: Is the End of Science Metaphysics?

Listening to Leila’s description, everyone present found it unbelievable. This sounded a bit too fantastical.

"Perhaps something was dropped in the center of the Mysterious Sea Area that affects patrol boats and submarines, which in turn disrupts communications," Huo An reasoned. As a representative of the rationalists, he believed everything had a scientific basis; they just hadn’t figured it out yet.

However, as eyewitnesses to the incident, Ao Ke and Leila felt that the Mysterious Sea Area might harbor some kind of powerful and mysterious creature.

"Whether it’s science or fantasy, in short, until we confirm the deaths of the missing personnel, we must find a way to rescue them." As the Vice District Chief, Goring needed to assume the responsibilities of the Governor at this time. Human lives were at stake; no one could give up easily.

"The President said you want me to communicate with the animals here and ask for their help?" Liang He asked. When President Lucas visited earlier, he had mentioned that Deputy Governor Goring hoped to utilize Liang He’s ability to communicate seamlessly with animals to assist in the rescue.

"Yes, this is the only method we can think of right now."

Logically speaking, other than Liang He, they all knew about the existence of Beastmen. There were quite a few Ocean Beastmen, including SS-level Mermaids, and they could have easily asked them for help. Unfortunately, they were also affected when approaching the Mysterious Sea Area. Not to mention being unable to see the situation beneath the surface, getting too close even caused mental confusion, to the point where they almost couldn’t make it back.

"Before this, we had already tried various methods, but it’s a pity..." Leila trailed off, feeling incredibly frustrated. It was probably the most difficult mission of her career.

Ao Ke, standing to the side, also looked terrible. As the captain of the Guard Team, he bore an undeniable responsibility.

"From your descriptions, I suspect that the substances or creatures in the Mysterious Sea Area emit a certain magnetic field that affects the mind and communication equipment." Liang He pondered various possibilities while petting the Mojin King Tiger’s head. She was also a rationalist at heart, leaning more toward scientific explanations. But the interstellar world was vast and boundless. She truly couldn’t use her limited knowledge to judge something she had never experienced before.

"It’s highly possible," President Lucas agreed. He had previously only heard a rough outline from Goring. Now, looking at the situation, he felt this might not be a natural disaster, but a man-made one.

"Alright, whatever the reason, we’ll investigate again tomorrow. Saying anything more now is just empty talk." Leila was a woman of action, but she also knew it hadn’t been easy for Liang He and the others to travel day and night to Skalan Star. Besides, since things had already come to this, there was no need to rush right this second.

"Alright, then we’ll head back first." Liang He was still anxious to go back and video-call her other fluffy friends. Seeing that everyone had nothing else to say, she wanted to return to her room.

President Lucas, given his advanced age, was indeed feeling physically drained, so he followed her upstairs.

"Governor Huo, is there something else you’d like to say?"

After Liang He and President Lucas left, Huo An showed no signs of leaving. Goring naturally figured he had something on his mind.

"Did you send any Beastmen to investigate earlier?" Huo An asked. President Lucas knew very little, which meant Huo An had received very little information. He could only take this opportunity to ask more questions. He had to grasp the full situation to make his next judgment, primarily for Liang He’s safety.

"Yes. After my investigation failed, I immediately reported to the Federation Army Headquarters and requested backup," Leila answered. Leila was a Federal Colonel; if it was something even she couldn’t handle, the Federation would naturally take it seriously. Therefore, they had dispatched powerful Beastmen to help at the first opportunity.

"At that time, just in case, we set up a dual safeguard," Leila added. "The result was completely unsurprising—the second safeguard was triggered again."

Even powerful Beastmen almost succumbed to it; the situation was already out of control.

"Actually, if it weren’t for the sake of saving people, we could have just directly blockaded that sea area." Goring pursed his lips tightly. He was probably the one under the most pressure right now. First, Governor Bolu went missing without a word, and then the entire Guard Team disappeared without a trace. Just thinking about it gave Goring a massive headache.

"According to what you’ve said, when humans or Beastmen approach that sea area, they suffer psychological effects," Huo An summarized.

Furthermore, electronic devices like communicators, including equipment on submarines, were also affected. The scope of the impact was a bit too broad. Could Liang He really help?

"How can you be sure that Liang He can help you?" he demanded.

"We aren’t sure." Leila was quite honest about this point. "We just have no other way."

Having hit a dead end, they could only swallow their pride and beg Liang He to step in. Logically speaking, Liang He was merely a Breeder; she had no reason whatsoever to get involved in this sort of thing. It was dangerous and a thankless task.

"Governor Huo, I understand your concerns. Rest assured, since I asked Liang He to help, I will absolutely guarantee her safety, even if it means guarding her with my own life!"

Leila’s resolute gaze and resounding promise finally made Huo An relent.

"You don’t know her." Huo An looked quietly at Leila. "She has always placed herself in the position of a protector. If you truly encounter danger, she’ll be the one saving you."

Goring had profound personal experience regarding this point. "Indeed. Last time, during the Rebel Army’s attack on Greenfield Star, it was Miss Liang He who stepped forward and resolved the crisis." Thinking of this matter, Goring felt quite emotional. It wasn’t out of discrimination or prejudice; he simply felt that Liang He’s petite frame contained endless power—power that left him in awe, yet also ashamed of himself.

"I’ve also heard about what happened on Greenfield Star," Leila said. It wasn’t just hearsay; she actually knew much more. For instance, the people inside that blown-up warship had actually died long before the explosion; the remaining severed limbs and wreckage were merely a posthumous punishment. Furthermore, she had heard that most of those Rebel Army soldiers were killed with a single, fatal strike. Whoever did it was decisive and incredibly efficient.

"Because of this, I firmly believe that Liang He will definitely come to help." This was also why Leila was filled with such goodwill and admiration toward Liang He, despite meeting her for the first time.

"Since she has already decided to help you, I won’t stand in her way." If Huo An had truly wanted to stop Liang He from risking her life, he could have refused President Lucas’s request right from the start. The reason he was bringing this up now was simply to gather more information while pushing them to double down on their protective measures.

"However, I hope Liang He will only be responsible for communicating with the animals. Do not let her get near that Mysterious Sea Area." This was Huo An’s only demand. If Liang He approached that sea area and truly encountered a danger that even he couldn’t fend off, he would probably blame himself for the rest of his life.

"You all should be very clear that, compared to those who have already gone missing, Liang He is far more important to the Federation."
