Chapter 230: Governor Huo Desperately Trying to Stop Goring From Poaching
Chapter 230: Chapter 230: Governor Huo Desperately Trying to Stop Goring From Poaching
Liang He hurriedly ran to open the door. The tiger and the eagle, now fully awake from their slumber, obediently followed behind her.
"Brother Hao, I’m sorry, I just fell asleep," Liang He immediately apologized to Huo An the moment she opened the door.
"There’s no need to apologize. I was being inconsiderate just now and didn’t communicate with you in advance." Hearing her apology made Huo An feel rather guilty. He should have contacted Liang He using his Light Brain first and waited for her reply before coming to find her.
President Lucas, who happened to step out of his room and overheard the two polite younger folks apologizing to each other, gave a fond smile and stepped in to smooth things over. "Alright, aren’t you tired of apologizing back and forth? Hurry up and head downstairs with this old man. It’s time, and Goring has called us down for a meal."
Liang He and Huo An stood in the elevator, flanking President Lucas like escorts, while Cedriel and Lanton stood like two guardian deities, exuding an imposing aura.
When the elevator arrived at a middle floor, the doors opened. Looking through the gap between her two "guardian deities," Liang He observed the situation outside and felt a bit embarrassed. "It seems we’ve taken up everyone else’s space..."
The elevator on the Sea Ship was actually quite spacious, but the sheer size of the Mojin King Tiger and the Canglan Hunting Eagle made it feel incredibly cramped.
Being taller, Huo An naturally had a better view. He met the surprised yet dawn-breaking gazes of the people waiting outside with a calm smile. "Apologies, would it be convenient to let us continue downstairs first?"
"Ah? Oh, oh! Of course!" The stunned group hastily made gestures, allowing Huo An’s elevator to continue its descent.
The moment the elevator doors closed, they immediately began whispering among themselves. They had clearly recognized the group’s origins through the Mojin King Tiger and the Canglan Hunting Eagle.
"Those two just now—they were the Federation Marshal and the First Commander, right?"
"Exactly! The people standing behind them must be the VIPs invited by the Vice District Chief."
"They look so majestic! That lady from just now, could she be their breeder, Liang He?"
The breeding relationship between Liang He, Cedriel, and Lanton was well-known. Since she was the only lady among the three humans, it was very easy to guess her identity.
"It has to be! No one else has the ability to make those two big shots behave so obediently!"
"Then the other two must be President Lucas and Governor Huo? Are they all here to help us find the missing people?"
"They should be... right? But even the Federation Army couldn’t find them, so can they?"
It wasn’t that they were looking down on the group. Out of the three of them, one was old, one was weak, and only Huo An looked like he had any combat capability. Of course, that was excluding Cedriel and Lanton.
"Could it be that the ones helping with the search aren’t them, but the Marshal and the Commander?"
"Lord Lanton’s Beast Form is the Canglan Hunting Eagle, so flying over the sea won’t be an issue for him. But the Marshal..."
Cedriel’s advantage lay on land, while the area they were currently in was surrounded by the sea as far as the eye could see. They truly couldn’t imagine where his skills could be put to use.
The underestimated Cedriel, meanwhile, was following behind Liang He, heading toward the private dining room Goring had prepared.
"President, Governor Huo, Miss Liang He." Goring greeted them one by one and then invited them to take their seats.
Because Liang He needed to take care of the Mojin King Tiger and the Canglan Hunting Eagle, her seat was slightly further away from the others.
"Could you please prepare some steamed seafood, along with some fruits and vegetables for me?" Although Liang He had brought quite a few cans of food, compared to such pre-packaged meals, she still hoped to feed Cedriel and Lanton fresh food whenever possible.
"Of course. What exactly do you need?"
With Goring presiding over the meal, the staff knew full well that these were VIPs and naturally didn’t dare to neglect them. As long as the requests weren’t excessive, they essentially accommodated their every need.
Liang He borrowed a pen and paper from them, then wrote down a list of foods that the Mojin King Tiger and the Canglan Hunting Eagle could eat. "Anything written here will do. They just need to be steamed—please don’t add any seasoning."
The hired chefs were from Blue Star. She figured that as long as they heard the food was being prepared for fluffy animals, they would know exactly what to do.
"Alright, no problem."
The staff member looked at the menu Liang He had listed out. Everything was common food that could be easily fished up, and a small amount of fruits and vegetables wouldn’t affect the rest of the guests’ supplies. With such a reasonable and hassle-free request, they naturally had no reason to refuse.
"Miss Liang He truly puts her heart into caring for Cedriel and Lanton." Once the staff member left, Goring shifted the conversation back to Liang He. To be honest, if it weren’t for the inappropriate timing, coupled with Huo An strictly guarding her from the sidelines, Goring would genuinely have tried to poach her.
"It’s just part of my duty." Liang He didn’t think she was doing anything extraordinary; she was merely doing what a breeder ought to do. Besides, she treated the fluffy ones well, and they returned her kindness with the most sincere affection. Their bond was a genuine, mutual endeavor.
"Liang He, you’re still too modest," President Lucas praised from the bottom of his heart. As someone who had dedicated his entire life to animal rescue, he sincerely hoped the world could have more people like Liang He. If that were the case, perhaps even more previously harmed animals could be saved.
"Miss Liang He, you..."
Just as Goring was about to try and get closer to her, Huo An suddenly flashed forward, blocking the space between him and Liang He. With a standard smile playing on his lips, he adopted a strictly businesslike demeanor. "Deputy Governor Goring, may I ask when it would be convenient for us to meet with the Guard Team and the Federation Army?"
Huo An hadn’t forgotten the purpose of their trip. They needed to resolve things early so they could head back early. Goring shouldn’t think Huo An couldn’t tell he was targeting Liang He. To dare poach someone right under his nose—did he really think Huo An was invisible?!
"Ah? Oh... They will be here shortly. I specifically invited them to dine with us."
When it came to official business, Goring didn’t dare to be negligent either. He had heard that people on Blue Star were accustomed to discussing matters at the dinner table, so he had specially adopted the practice. Thinking about it carefully, he found it very reasonable. The atmosphere at a dining table was more relaxed, which would surely make discussions more harmonious.
"They should be arriving soon. I’ll go wait by the door for a moment."
Goring stood up and walked out of the private room. As Huo An watched him leave, he happened to meet Liang He’s puzzled gaze.
"What’s wrong?" Huo An asked her softly, thinking she had something important to say.
As a result, the words Liang He suddenly blurted out almost made Huo An spit out the water he had just sipped. "Brother Hao, why are you guarding against Deputy Governor Goring like he’s a thief?"
It seemed Huo An really didn’t want her to interact with Deputy Governor Goring. "Could it be that there’s something wrong with him?"
It wasn’t Liang He’s fault for suddenly coming up with a conspiracy theory. Mainly, it was because Huo An, who had always been polite to others, had suddenly acted so rudely by interrupting Goring. It genuinely struck Liang He as strange.
"...No, you’re overthinking it."
Suddenly feeling a bit exhausted, Huo An sighed helplessly. How was he supposed to explain that Goring wanted to poach her? If he told her directly, what if Liang He—who probably hadn’t realized Goring’s intentions—was suddenly enlightened and actually considered jumping ship?
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
Just as Huo An was still racking his brains for a way to smooth things over, a sudden knock on the private room’s door interrupted their conversation.
