Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Gathering Together Is Full of the Warmth of Everyday Life
"Okay."
Perhaps realizing he would need Liang He’s help later, Lan Zhuo was exceptionally obedient, willingly trying to figure out the robot vacuum without complaint. Meanwhile, Liang He continued to work on dinner.
"Hoder, we’re having cured meats tonight! I made these myself after winter started, so I guarantee they are clean and hygienic!"
Due to limited ingredients, Liang He had planned early on to try her homemade cured dishes for dinner. Cured chicken, duck, fish, pork, sausage, beef, pork ribs, and even pig trotters... Liang He had turned everything she could think of into cured goods. They were delicious and easy to store.
"There will be six of us for dinner, so I’ll make eight dishes."
Six main courses, one soup, and a side dish should be enough. She started figuring out the combinations. With the vegetables she had snagged from the cafeteria, it should be just about enough.
"Steamed cured duck, stir-fried cured pork with winter bamboo shoots, cured beef with garlic leaves...
"They say to eat radishes in winter and ginger in summer. I’ll add a cured rib and radish soup. Perfect!"
"Liang He, please stop talking. Just the smell is making me drool..."
Hoder, who was helping Liang He blanch the cured meats, couldn’t stop his mouth from watering at their unique aroma. His stomach even started to GRUMBLE.
"I’ll be quick. Don’t rush me." Having finalized the menu, Liang He sped up her prep work.
"Liang He, I’m here to help!"
"Xu Yi? You’re just in time. Hurry and help me chop the vegetables."
Cooking eight dishes alone was indeed a bit overwhelming, especially since Hoder was solely focused on blanching. Xu Yi hadn’t mooched a meal here in a long time. Having some free time, he came over early to see if he could help and was immediately assigned chopping duties by Liang He.
"I guess this counts as right up my alley, doesn’t it?" Looking at the cured duck that had just been blanched and rinsed again, Xu Yi began his "dissection" work.
"Stop joking around and get to work."
The impatient Hoder started acting as a taskmaster while his own hands never stopped moving. As a result, Xu Yi didn’t even know how to retort and could only drag Lan Zhuo—who had just figured out the robot vacuum—over to help. For a moment, four people squeezed into the kitchen, dramatically increasing their efficiency. By the time Silver Shuttle finished mopping the floor and wanted to pitch in, they no longer needed him.
"Wow! It smells so good!" As soon as he entered the kitchen, Silver Shuttle caught the aroma. It was completely different from the Blue Star Vegetable dishes he had eaten on Greenfield Star.
"Are you Silver Shuttle?" Lan Zhuo had already exchanged greetings with Silver Shuttle earlier, but this was Xu Yi’s first time meeting him. Although he had heard Huo An mention Silver Shuttle’s identity, he couldn’t help but shoot him a few curious glances.
"Mhm, hello! I’m Silver Shuttle, Liang He’s specially appointed temporary Breeder."
In order to cling to Liang He as his lifesaver, Silver Shuttle was fully willing to act as a temporary Breeder. Why did he even feel a little proud of it?
"Hello, hello. Well, we’re all family from now on."
Calling it "temporary" was just empty talk. Xu Yi smiled and shook Silver Shuttle’s hand, already mentally accepting him as one of their own. Jokes aside, with Liang He’s personal charm and cooking skills, keeping someone around would be an absolute breeze!
"Xu Yi, stop chatting. Liang He asked us to find the food warming board so the dishes don’t get cold."
The longer they lived with Liang He, the more they felt that Blue Star had many interesting hidden treasures. A warming board was simply too perfect for eating in the winter.
"Why didn’t we ever think of using something as handy as a warming board before?"
"Are you kidding? Before Liang He came, we were all drinking nutrient solution. What, were you going to heat it up before drinking?"
The nutrient solution tasted bad enough as it was. Heated up, its flavor became so bizarrely disgusting that no one could swallow it!
"Hehe, I just forgot..."
They had been fed so well by Liang He that they had completely forgotten their past days of suffering. Now, they were beginning to understand why Blue Star people were so reluctant to leave Blue Star and live on other planets. Just for these delicacies—which one couldn’t possibly finish trying even if they ate different meals all year round—he wouldn’t want to leave either.
"Eh? Lan Zhuo, why did you come out too?" Just as he finished setting up the warming board, Hoder saw Lan Zhuo walking toward the storage room and asked curiously.
"Liang He asked me to grab some wine and heat it up." Liang He’s idea was that drinking hot wine in winter would warm up the entire body and feel incredibly cozy. "There happens to be more than half a bottle of red wine left over from before. She’s planning to make mulled wine. After dinner, we can go to the sunroom upstairs, sit around the stove, drink warm wine, and enjoy the night view."
It was said that mulled wine could prevent aging and cardiovascular diseases, while also doing a great job at warding off the cold, relaxing muscles, stimulating blood circulation, and promoting sleep. Plus, it didn’t require high-quality wine, so Liang He was putting everything to good use.
"Wow! That sounds amazing!" Sitting around a stove brewing wine—they had never enjoyed such a relaxing life before. It was all thanks to Liang He.
"What sounds amazing?"
As soon as he walked through the door, Huo An heard Xu Yi’s loud exclamations. Raising an eyebrow slightly, he walked toward them.
Seeing that the final "guest" had arrived, Xu Yi left the explaining to Hoder and bolted into the kitchen to tell Liang He they could start serving.
"Here it comes! Make way, and be careful not to spill soup on yourselves!"
Silver Shuttle appeared first, carrying the cured rib and radish soup. Hoder immediately stepped in to help him, guarding the soup pot all the way until it was safely placed on the table before finally breathing a sigh of relief.
"I don’t think I’ve ever been this anxious, not even during a fight. I was terrified my hand would slip and the whole pot of soup would be ruined."
Wiping nonexistent sweat from his forehead, Silver Shuttle hadn’t even caught his breath when he heard Liang He calling from the kitchen, prompting him to hurry back. It wasn’t just him; everyone, including Huo An, headed to the kitchen. Soon, the table was completely filled with food.
"Have some soup first to warm your stomachs. I’m going to feed Cedriel and the others."
Since she was having a feast, Liang He naturally wouldn’t forget her furry friends. She had prepared hearty, delicious meals for them early on. They each got a bowl so they wouldn’t fight over the food.
"We’ll all help, and then we can start eating together later."
Liang He was the head chef and had worked hard to cook this massive spread. They would feel too guilty leaving her to work alone; they wouldn’t even be able to drink their soup with a clear conscience.
"That works too."
Not rejecting everyone’s goodwill, they each carried a bowl of food to the animal dormitory, placing them in the furry animals’ respective individual rooms. This way, the animals would know they could only eat their own food, not anyone else’s. Upon seeing the delicious food, the furry creatures didn’t dig in right away. Instead, they surrounded Liang He and rubbed against her affectionately. Even though she smelled like grease and cured meats, they didn’t mind at all.
"Alright, eat your food like good boys. After we finish eating, we’ll take you upstairs to look at the stars."
After soothing the furry creatures and watching them return to their individual rooms to eat, Liang He finally felt at ease going back for dinner. Once she took her seat, everyone stopped standing on ceremony and picked up their chopsticks, starting with a bowl of soup.
"Wow! This soup is amazing!"
Silver Shuttle, who was tasting Liang He’s cooking for the first time, was won over the moment the soup touched his lips. His bowl was emptied in no time.
"Liang He, I regret it..."
