1364 Confusion and Shock(32)
Chapter 1364: Confusion and Shock(32)
Laney stood there for a while in surprise since the aura of resentment didn’t come with her. She smiled after finding that it had truly disappeared. The painful torture was extreme, so it was good that she wouldn’t have to go through that anymore.
Six months had already passed, and she only had six more months left before the deadline of one year would end. There was no time to waste, so Laney turned around and walked away.
After a few minutes of travel, she finally came across a second life other than her. She immediately went to the man and asked about the city.
The man seemed to have expected Laney to ask him those questions, so he explained the details Laney didn’t even ask about.
After listening to the man, Laney understood where she needed to go if she wanted to recruit someone.
Following the directions given by the man, Laney walked and soon stooped in front of a gigantic tower. The structure in front of her was the battle arena, where the best talents of the city fought to entertain the citizens and earn money.
“Stop!” Laney tried to enter the arena when the guard standing there stopped her.
What was even more surprising was the level of the guard. It was Level 200.
Laney stood and looked at the guard in confusion. The guard had a slight look of contempt in his eyes since he could see Laney’s level.
“Do you have a death wish?” The guard asked. The next moment, the contempt in the man’s eyes grew intense, and he looked at Laney as if she were some inferior being.
Laney didn’t like the contempt in the man’s eyes, and her eyes immediately turned cold.
The guard couldn’t help but shudder for a second and then looked at Laney in anger since he couldn’t believe that someone 10 levels below him was able to make him back down.
The guard was ready to fight, but he controlled himself when he saw who was coming toward the door. He immediately pushed Laney away, and a respectful expression spread across his face.
The push surprised Laney, so she made an effort to remain steady. But stopping someone ten levels higher from pushing was easier said than done. She was easily pushed away.
‘What the hell is going on?’ Laney couldn’t help but think in her heart since the man’s behavior was extremely weird.
Arrogance was understandable for a powerful being, but acting like that against someone when the party was only a guard didn’t make any sense at all. It was even more surprising considering Laney’s identity.
The man approaching the arena saw the scene, and instead of accepting the guard’s bow, he walked toward Laney.
“Do you have a death wish?” The man asked, shocking Laney.
“Leave; this job isn’t for you if you can lose your mind with just this much negative aura.” The man then looked at the guard and reprimanded him.
The man’s words initially confused Laney because they were similar to what the guard had said, but when she heard the reprimand, her face changed.
The man ignored Laney and snapped his fingers. The next moment, the guard disappeared from the spot.
The man then returned his focus to Laney and repeated the earlier question.
“What do you mean?” Laney asked in confusion. She could see that the man’s words contained no contempt.
“You dare enter the arena with this much negative energy surrounding you. Do you want to get trampled on by the crowd?” The man asked, shocking Laney.
“Can you see the aura of resentment around me?” Laney asked.
“Yes, but it isn’t a simple resentment aura. It is a negative aura that turns others against you,” The man replied.
“If you don’t wish to die, stay away from areas with dense populations.” The man added, and then he turned, leaving in the direction of the tower.
“Do you know of a way to solve it?” Laney asked in a hurry. She couldn’t even see the aura around herself; how would she even solve it on her own? She didn’t think twice before asking the man for help. The negative energy didn’t seem to have much of an impact on the man.
The man stopped, but then he resumed walking, and his words rang in Laney’s ears.
“You can not run from it. Only the quests aren’t trials, but this is also.”
Laney stood there still for a while since her plans to recruit from the tower turned out to be futile before she even began. The next moment, Laney had to leave as she found a man walking not far from her, turning in her direction and coming toward her with a threatening expression.
“Eh!” Laney suddenly stopped, remembering that the man she had come into contact with wasn’t affected by the negative energy at all. Since the man’s level was lower, Laney was able to see it.
Laney immediately walked in that direction, hoping to find the man. She breathed a sigh of relief when she found that the man was still there.
The man also sensed her approach and looked at her with a smile on his face.
“Can you see the negative energy around me?” Laney immediately asked after reaching the man.

It had been nine months since Laney’s second quest began, and she was finally ready to begin it.
From the training, Laney had accumulated, two thousand white recruitment tokens, seven hundred yellow recruitment tokens, three green recruitment tokens, and one red recruitment token.
It was easy for her to fill out the white and yellow recruitment tokens, but things were different for the green tokens.
The green recruitment token allowed her to recruit figures between Levels 150 and 200, which would prove to be a great help in the second quest. She had gained only three tokens, so she wanted men above Level 195 for each of the three tokens. But that remained an imagination, and she only succeeded in recruiting one Level 195, while for the other two, she had to stop at Level 183 and Level 186.
Fortunately for her, she had succeeded in recruiting for the red recruitment token, a Level 234 figure.
