The First Legendary Beast Master

Chapter 2079: The Benefit Of Experience

Dana appeared next to Karl looking startled. She had moved with a single thought, and instinctively appeared next to him by transferring through her space.

It was the first time that she had done it, and the feeling was disconcertingly natural.

Karl pulled her down into his lap as he shifted into Cat Demon form so he could see over her head, and the Immortals next to him chuckled.

"How does a man get that lucky? First bunnies, and now we find out that your Guild has a Divine Fox?"

Karl winked at the man who had spoken. "I will admit that we cheated on this one. She’s my wife, so she didn’t really have another choice but to join the Guild."

That did not make them look any less envious.

Dana rolled her eyes, but her attention was entirely on the fighting styles of the two Supreme Ranked swordsmen in the arena. Their skills were far beyond average, and the styles were quite elegant.

Well suited to her own use.

That was what Karl had wanted her here to see. She was already extremely skilled with the blade, but there was always something to learn, especially from those who had centuries of experience.

With that much time fighting and refining their techniques, there were all sorts of small things that could be easily missed by the untrained eye. Karl’s hope was that Dana’s eyes were sharp enough to gain something from the exchange between the two, when he knew that even most of the warriors would miss the majority of the subtle details, simply due to their dedication to their own styles.

They wouldn’t be looking at it as a learning opportunity, but as a way to assess the style as a way to learn to defend against it.

To them, that was much more valuable.

The fight in the arena was building in intensity as the pair adjusted to their potion enhanced mana regeneration rates, and began to tweak their attack patterns to more effectively use the increased mana levels.

However, the mana potion recovered a portion of your pool every second, and while it was amazing for the Void Immortals and others who usually bought it, for a pair of Supreme Ranked warriors, who were already very mana efficient, it basically allowed them to spam top-tier skills at each other.

For Karl, the amount that the potion added to his mana recovery would be enough for him to blanket a twenty-kilometre radius in [Apocalypse] for the entire hour that the potion worked.

Without burning any of his own mana.

These show was so intense that the arena was silent except for cheering. Some of the spectators were trying to analyze the skills in use, but most of them were simply watching the fight for the sake of the fight.

Skills lit up the barrier, and the crowd erupted with wild screams as one of the pair nearly fell to a surprise double skill that sent him rolling across the sand, while his skill hit the upper barrier around the arena.

The other combatant pressed his advantage, and it looked like the fight was about to end, but Dana was only growing more focused on the fight.

To Karl, that suggested that the weakness of the backpedalling fighter was at least partially a sham, setting his opponent up for a counterattack.

If he could ever manage to get it off.

The turn came three seconds later, using what looked like a misdirected attack as the Supreme stumbled. The skill flew wide, then turned and slammed into his opponent’s back as the fallen Supreme flew up into the air with a winged transformation skill and began pounding his opponent with a volley of conjured swords.

That was the turnaround that Dana had been waiting for, and it worked flawlessly, but the skill that he used was disappointing. [Rain of Swords] was a good skill, and excellent for suppression, but she had so many options that could do the job as well or better that it felt like a let down.

[Petal Rain] was less devastating than the similarly named [Falling Plum Blossom Petals] skill, but it would create a swirling storm of flower petals around her that would attack an enemy from all sides at once.

It was better suited to multiple targets, but it was much more difficult to defend against than the [Sword Rain] skill.

When you were going for a win by attrition, doing constant small amounts of damage to your opponent was more effective than trying to land a big hit. Her style was amazing for that, and somehow it seemed to go well with her foxkin appearance.

The Foxes were known for their charm, so using a sword style that generated flower related special attacks just felt right.

The Immortals sitting near Karl noticed Dana’s rapt attention on the fight, once they finally got past the envy toward Karl’s absolutely bullshit luck stat. A guild full of Immortal bunnies, cute Lycan girls, AND a divine fox wife?

Was this guy the protagonist in some bard’s tavern tale?

Most of them had completely ignored the fact that there were far more Lycan men than women, and that most of the Lycan women were more scary than cute. Unless they were into that.

But the actual balance mattered less than the appearance.

"Miss, are you a Blademaster?" One of the Immortals asked.

"I’m actually a Golem Mistress. But before that, I had a Battlemage type class, so I have excellent sword skills. If you’re looking to train mages to excel alone, I highly recommend it. If they combine the Mystic Blademaster Class with the constructs of a Golem Master, they’ll end up far less fragile than the average mage."

The man sighed. Not just one but two rare classes? It might be possible, but if they couldn’t manage it, just teaching their Battlemages to use more Golem related skills sounded like it might be a winning idea.

If they had the patience to learn them, anyhow.
