The First Legendary Beast Master
Chapter 2046: The Basic Wall
Cara thought for a few seconds, making sure that there wasn’t a better spell than [Bulwark] to begin the mages’ defensive training.
There probably was, but Bulwark was a spell that the mages could use with multiple elements, just as Thor could use it with cold and lightning. While it had many drawbacks, learning to fast cast and drop walls of magic would build every skill the young mages needed now that their Immortal Spirits were well on the way to forming.
That was going to cause chaos at school.
Having even a small group of students who could qualify for missions, and whose Immortal Spirits were fully formed giving them a chance to place on the Spirit Rankings, was going to cause envy, and that envy had a clear target.
The new pill and potion that the Alchemists had created.
Cara was nearly giddy with joy as she saw the possibility of stirring up chaos at school without having to actually do anything, and she began to prepare [Follow Me, Little One].
{Benevolent Badger Cara grants a Blessing} [Bulwark] will be granted to the cake lover Felicia.
The first mage’s eyes went wide in outrage.
The system just called her fat. She was one hundred percent sure that the system just called her fat. Why else would it consider loving cake the most important part of her personality?
{Benevolent Badger Cara grants a Blessing} [Bulwark] will be granted to the trading card aficionado Jenn.
The other mage smiled and shrugged at the questioning look she was getting from Felicia.
"It says that I love trading cards. Just like Anilla said, the skill gives you a message from the System, about what it thinks is your most important personality trait.
What did it say about you?"
"It says that I love cake."
Cara handed the rest of the cupcakes to Lala and gave the girls a double thumbs up.
"I prefer cupcakes, but not a bad choice at all. Cupcakes are best cake, portable and in small enough portions that you can change flavours multiple times a day."
The girls giggled. "I don’t think that our moms would approve of us having multiple cupcakes a day."
That was almost certainly true.
But their parents weren’t here and the cupcakes could be counted as training resources, if Cara defined her position the right way. However, that was the smallest of concerns about Cara at the moment.
The larger one was the fact that she had simply vanished from the Hall of Elders, which was supposed to be warded against teleportation and portals.
"Someone call Karl in. He should know what the vulnerability in our wards is." One of the Elders demanded.
They all knew that Cara was his bonded beast, so he certainly knew her capabilities, and he would be able to tell them how she managed to simply vanish from a building that was warded to restrain prisoners.
However, Opal raised her hand to get their attention, then vanished and reappeared.
"You can’t teleport, open a portal, or move to a pocket dimension within this room. But you can shift between planes and realms. I can enter the Fae Realm at will, and Cara can enter the Chaos Plane. So, if we want to leave, we can just shift to another world, then choose to reappear somewhere else.
In fact, the wards make it easy, as they defend against entry from other worlds, but not departures to them."
The Elders stared at her in horror. How could that have been overlooked? They were certain that they had warded against that sort of travel. But when they began to inspect the wards, they found that it was a loophole or oversight in their protection.
They had defended against the mortal and Immortal Realms.
That was where the threats to them came from.
But they hadn’t warded against the Chaos Plane, or the Upper Planes.
No Immortal Sect that they knew of had ever been attacked from the Upper Planes, not even the worst of the death cults had actually managed to invite divine wrath from the Upper Planes. From the Divine Realms, yes. But not from the Upper Planes where the Fae and Seraphim lived.
However, the room was also supposed to be warded against Fae intrusion, and Opal seemed to ignore that without any sort of restriction.
They needed to have someone come look at their defences.
Ironically, the best people for the job were also in the Darklight Host, who had just revealed the flaws in the arrays to begin with. Normally, that would be highly suspicious, but given the ones who had found the flaws were a Forest Trickster and a Chaos Badger, they couldn’t really hold it against the whole Guild.
It wasn’t like the Darklight Host was actively looking for ways around the standard arrays.
"We can deal with the travel issue later. Today, we will stay on track and focus on the discussion about the disruption caused by the new alchemy products, and the lack of information control measures," Elder Forsham insisted.
Remi giggled, and the Elders glared at her.
"{ Fine, I will work on warning people in advance that they’re not supposed to spread the word around when they’re testing products. These ones needed the newest of Immortals for the testing, so we picked the kids, but we might have overlooked the fact that they would be excited enough to immediately tell their friends. }"
The members who had gathered in the room to listen to the truth of the situation all chuckled at Remi’s insistence of innocence.
She made a good point. They were just testing the new products for the first time. That happened all the time in the Alchemy Hall. The only difference this time was who they had picked, and how effective the products were at growing new Immortals.
If it had been something smaller, like a physical development potion . . .
No, that would have been worse. Kids just reaching puberty and looking to get past the awkward phase to become the popular kid in class would be a greater threat to public order than the ones looking for more power and adventure with their Immortal Spirits formed.
