Chapter 1876: Replacement
Chapter 1876: Replacement
Karl winked at her, and conjured a metal stool with [Earth Manipulation].
"Come, have a seat, and I will tell you all about it. We don’t have any other customers at the moment.
You see, the Black Dragon has a particular objection to dragons being treated as pets, and I am a Pet Sitter, who was once a Beast Master. So, I have an open beast space that I could bond a new partner in.
That caused him some concern, given the nature of the Pet Sitter Class, and the fact that I am an Avatar of the World Dragon."
The woman smiled. "You could have started with that part, I would have understood."
"The fear of me taking a dragon as a bonded pet is overblown anyhow. They will grow up big and strong all by themselves, it’s better to bond the beasts with immense potential that need the right opportunities to advance.
Something like a Hawk that might one day become a Dark Flame Phoenix, or a Lightning Cerro that could become an Impenetrable Bulwark Behemoth."
The woman looked confused for a moment, then smiled. "So, you have a skill that lets you help beasts evolve? Ones that have reached the peak of their potential, and need a chance to grow any further?"
Karl nodded. "But it doesn’t work on ones that are eligible for a System Interface, so it’s not going to help anyone’s injured friend or Clan mate recover.
However, we do have a skilled Alchemist in the Guild who is working on potions and pills along that path."
The woman shook her head. "No, it’s more about the various monsters that I’ve seen in the wilderness since I arrived in this world. Many of them seem to be stunted versions of creatures that I knew at home, ones that had been bred for war."
Karl nodded. "There are many species like that. But what brings you here, surely you didn’t just casually ask about a Demigod?"
"That is a more personal matter. I was actually instructed by the Black Dragon to remain with the New Home Merchant Clan for some time. They are lacking Clerics for the church, and I have been informed that someone may have begun to rebuild a Temple to the World Dragon in the compound."
Karl raised his hand. "That would be me. Actually, I just activated the System Stones that were on the grounds, I didn’t intend to open the Church, as it’s taken heavy damage, and is considered a Clan Relic at this point.
If you are stuck and waiting to advance your Class, there is a waiting list to gain access.
Normally, there isn’t, but there is a recruiting event going on right now, and that has brought an influx of people who are stuck with the warrior class, despite having gained many new skills.
The New Home has graciously agreed to let them try the stones, for a reasonable fee."
"Charging for access to church resources?"
"Charging for access to the block that it is situated on. Normally, that region is out of the public access area of the Clan, well within what is now the residential area."
"Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Keeping the Clan’s precious resources for themselves. Especially as it is no longer an open temple. How is the condition?"
"Fully destroyed. It’s enclosed in a barrier that only I could access. The Clan Leader can’t even access it without holding my hand to enter. So, the temple itself, and the System Stones within it, are still protected from interference, but you only need to be close to the System Stones to activate the Obelisk and start the Class Change process.
However, I will warn you that the Class Change protections are somewhat lacking. Immortals can see in, so they can watch all the funny faces that you make while you’re deciding."
The visitor laughed. "That sounds like something that the World Dragon would do. Put you in a separate space for safety, but install a window, so that others can still be entertained by you."
"You know, I never thought about it that way. I had assumed that it was just an error in the way that I reactivated the stones. But from this point forward, I will blame the divine will of the World Dragon for the situation."
"Are you sure that is wise? Blaming random things on the gods does have a tendency to upset them."
Karl shrugged. "Blaming entertaining things on the world dragon rarely goes wrong. Plus, it’s a System Obelisk for changing classes. The fact that it works at all relies heavily on the will of the World Dragon.
Though, it also works to activate the Classes of those with Laughing God based Systems, so there is some overlap there.
Perhaps because they’re in the same Pantheon, perhaps because they share a similar sense of humour."
The woman looked vaguely scandalized, then sighed. "Yes, you have a point on that front. Your God does have an odd sense of humour, even if his Systems are a bit less random and cruel than those of the Laughing God.
Is there another temple that I might use to set up? The Clan Leader and the Elders are all busy with missions regarding the recruitment event for the next few days, but I was hoping to get myself situated and into a room before then."
Karl shrugged. "Rooms there I can’t help you with. But if you want to take a room here for the time being, I can get you one in the Guild House. If you’re sent by the Gods, I won’t have to worry about you stealing or harming my members.
Plus, the Priestesses are here if you do cause trouble."
The woman laughed, "And I’m sure that you would find it highly entertaining if I was the one being spanked for annoying them."
"Not me, personally. But we have a Forest Trickster that likes to make short videos of entertaining things that happen around the Guild..."
