Chapter 1783 An Apprentice's Worth
The rapid repopulation of the reclaimed Clan compound continued for the rest of the day, with dozens of New Home members who couldn’t get a decent shop space in the old compound coming to set up here, and others coming simply to see what the new outpost looked like, as there was a portal open anyhow.
There were multiple Clan quests that would be fulfilled in the region, which was near what they had always considered the edge of the New Home’s usual training areas. Not that they were the only Clan in the region, just the largest.
There were actually dozens of small Clans and Sects between the two locations, but none of them were more than a dozen people. Usually, it was just one strong Immortal, possibly someone stuck at the Peak of Immortality, who had decided that they needed time to refocus and had decided to take in disciples.
In the Telheusto region, the Blackwoods Pack was considered to be one of those minor and insignificant packs, barely a footnote to everything else that was going on.
Now, they were part of the Darklight Host, and they were quickly preparing to transition to a fully equipped crafting Guild. They had the skills that they needed, and now they even had customers for the shops that had rushed to open the first day.
Most of those were restaurants and bakeries, as the Mystic Cooks had perishable goods to move.
The others would follow soon after, once the Leatherworkers stopped arguing about what the best designs to prioritize for the Clan were. Changing everyone’s fashion sense away from the casual robes that they usually wore would be difficult.
If they had chosen more tailors, they could at least make casual wear.
However, few would pay a premium to make that a high-grade piece of armour when they changed it regularly, based on the formality of the situation. Only the wealthiest would have armour grade fashion for every situation.
Well, the wealthiest, or the one making it.
In this case, that was Rae, and there was an argument to be made that she might actually be both.
Unlike Cara who piled her loot into a mountain, Rae hid hers all over the forest in her space. Some was in trees, most of it was buried. But there were decorations everywhere, and many of them were incredibly valuable.
And that wasn’t even counting the chests full of carefully sorted clothing and armour that didn’t meet her exacting standards.
Sometimes a piece didn’t have just the stats that you wanted it to, but it was still perfectly functional. Or, you finished it, and realized that you didn’t like the design as much as you thought you would.
That was the worst.
Now, she was considering whether she could have someone open a shop for her, as she didn’t want to sell them at the Guild House under her own name.
They would sell very well, and if you didn’t try to match the pieces as a perfect set, as most of the customers wouldn’t, It didn’t matter if the flow of the pieces was off.
People with no sense of fashion were still customers.
Rae turned to Meisje, who was sitting snuggled into her new hoodie.
“What do you think about taking on a crafting skill? Leatherworking, tailoring, or we can give you one of the others’ skills. Maybe Inscription or Alchemy? Then, you can work on that while you do something for me.”
“What did you need me to do?”
“Recruit some of the others and operate an outlet store to sell off my excess stock. The stuff that isn’t good enough to go through the Guild Store. I offered to sell batches of it to the New Home, but Elder Douglas ran away on me, so I need to find Min about that.”
Meisje considered her options. Too much had changed for her since the spider found her. Not only could she see, she had been taken into a Guild that had spectacular benefits. She was no longer homeless, and now she was being offered her choice of top tier trade skills. The sort of life that many Immortals had literally killed to obtain.
“I think that I would like to learn tailoring. Is it wrong that I want to make cute things? I’ve never seen any of these things before, and I want more of them.”
Rae smiled. “Yes, that is a good choice. Fear not, most of your sisters are big fans of cute things. Nobody will judge you for it. You’ve met Sister Lotus, so you know that you’re still probably not the biggest lover of cute things in the guild.”
Meisje laughed. She had indeed met Lotus a number of times before the Priestess fixed her eyes. Her pet Tifa as well.
Rae smiled at the mage. “And tailoring is a wonderful choice. There are so many options just with silk, and then you get into all the other options, like fur, scales, even plant cloth. Yes, we will have a wonderful time.”
Meisje laughed. “You seem to be extra eager to help me, compared to the others.”
Rae shrugged. “You are mine, I called dibs.”
“I don’t know if you can just claim people like that.”
“No, you definitely can. Karl does it all the time, and I do it in combat. It has to be a rule, even when I’m not planning to kill them.”
“When you put it that way, I get what you mean. I was just misunderstanding the situation.”
She wasn’t. Rae was not going to correct her, though. Having her new mage try to run away would just be a nuisance, and she was about to take her as an apprentice. An apprentice could be the front of their off brand sales, no problem. But she couldn’t trust an outsider with that. They wouldn’t understand the glory of what they were selling.
That was why she hadn’t hurried to sell them to the Clan Warehouse, despite there being significant demand for new gear. They didn’t have the proper salesmanship to really do her work justice. She had no problem accepting Clan Credits for it, though.
