Chapter 72: Boss(GT Bonus Chapter)

Galzan hit the street like a falling mountain.

Several armored soldiers were thrown across the road while two others disappeared beneath his feet.

Karl’s Death Legion reached the remaining forces almost at the same time, spreading through the nearby streets as Leon and Mira rushed in with them.

At first, the fight looked almost disappointingly easy.

Then Karl watched one of his skeletons bury a sword through an armored soldier’s chest without achieving anything.

The hollow creature simply grabbed the blade and smashed the skeleton apart.

Another undead struck its helmet and cracked it open, finally exposing the small pearl hidden inside and the moment that core shattered, the soldier collapsed.

"Tch, troublesome."

Once Karl knew where the cores were, killing them became much easier but the problem was reaching them.

These things were ridiculously durable for hollow suits of armor.

Some had cores inside their helmets, others deeper in their chests, and simply smashing through the body took far more effort than Karl wanted to waste on every single one.

The mages were worse, one of Karl’s beasts tore through a mage’s chest and crushed the pearl inside.

The armored body froze and then light burst through the cracks in its robe.

BOOM!

The explosion swallowed the beast along with several nearby skeletons and blasted pieces of armor across the street.

Leon brought his axe through another soldier’s helmet and immediately jumped away from a nearby mage.

"It would not have been nice If I learned it five seconds later."

Another explosion went off farther down the road.

Despite how annoying they were, the experience was excellent.

Karl and Leon couldn’t move beyond Level 99 until their First Transitions were completed, but the excess EXP was still being stored.

Mira had no such restriction anymore, she had already levelled up again since entering the city.

The only issue was the number of enemies, every time the Legion cleared one street, more soldiers appeared from another.

Karl could already see hundreds moving through the nearby roads and judging by the sounds coming from deeper inside the Sanctuary, there were far more than that.

Hundreds of them, possibly thousands.

Then something struck one of the skeletons from above.

BOOM!

The projectile exploded on impact and shattered most of its upper body.

Karl looked upward, several figures had appeared along the rooftops of the taller buildings.

Unlike the soldiers below, these carried enormous bows almost as tall as themselves.

They fired together and dozens of arrows descended across the street.

"Incoming."

The first arrow struck between two undead and exploded.

Then another and within seconds, blasts were erupting all across the road as Karl’s Legion scattered through the surrounding streets.

Mira disappeared into a shadow before several arrows struck where she had been standing, while Leon raised his axe and knocked one away.

The arrow detonated anyway and Leon was blown backward.

"Fuck it, that’s annoying."

The archers didn’t stop instead more appeared on another rooftop while several armored soldiers below kept the undead occupied.

Then Galzan suddenly turned his head, agroup of much larger armored figures had rolled something onto the roof of one of the buildings.

A huge ballista.

Galzan’s eyes widened. "Don’t you fucking—"

THOOM!

The projectile crossed the street almost instantly and before he could dodge it punched straight through Galzan’s side and came out from the other end, burying itself in another building behind him.

Galzan froze, then slowly looked down at the hole through his body and his face twisted in pain and anger.

He grabbed the huge projectile still lodged through part of his side and ripped it free.

"You little bastards."

The rooftop crew hurriedly began loading another one but they never got the chance.

Galzan jumped and his enormous body crossed the street and crashed directly into the building.

The upper section disappeared beneath him.

Stone, armor and pieces of the ballista collapsed into the road as Galzan tore through the rooftop and smashed whatever remained beneath his fists.

Karl looked across the city, they could clear this place eventually.

But there was little reason to spend hours grinding through every street and exhausting themselves for naught when their actual objective was somewhere deeper inside.

The EXP was tempting though, Karl glanced toward Mira as she emerged from a soldier’s shadow, cut through the back of its helmet and crushed the core before vanishing again.

She had already benefited plenty.

Tch, I really hope I can complete my Transition task soon.

Until his Personal Death Domain formed, all that EXP would simply keep piling up.

Another barrage of explosive arrows came from above.

Karl shifted aside and called toward Seraphine, who was currently freezing two armored soldiers in place for the undead surrounding them.

"Seraphine."

She turned.

"What?"

Karl gestured toward the streets full of soldiers.

"You can take care of these, can’t you?"

Seraphine looked around at the hundreds of armored creatures still approaching then back at him.

"What? You’re going to hunt the main boss?"

Karl nodded.

"I’ll leave the army under your command."

Seraphine’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Karl added, "If you do it properly, I’ll ask Victor to make you your favourite cake."

Her expression changed almost instantly. "Fine."

Karl stared at her for a second before sighing.

Victor might genuinely have a second profession as some kind of legendary cook.

Karl had always assumed undead shouldn’t even have proper taste buds, yet Seraphine clearly did.

Victor had completely won her over with the chocolate cake he made after Karl’s Alliance Exam results were announced.

Tch, forget it.

Karl turned toward Leon and Mira. "Let’s move toward the inner city, there’s no point wasting all our energy here."

Neither argued of them argued about it, Galzan was still busy destroying the remains of the ballista crew, so they left him with the wgiom and serpahine for the movement.

The three immediately moved deeper into the Sanctuary.

Several rooftop archers noticed them breaking away and changed targets, arrows rained toward the street ahead.

Leon jumped first and landed on the edge of a nearby roof and brought the battle axe down through one archer, smashing both it and half the roof beneath it.

Another turned its bow toward him but Leon grabbed it before it could fire and ripped the armored body apart.

Karl did not bother climbing after them, he summoned a wave of the weakest undead directly across the nearby rooftops.

The archers immediately turned toward them but Karl just raised a hand.

"Death Detonation."

BOOM!

Several rooftops disappeared beneath black explosions.

Broken armor and pieces of stone rained into the streets while Karl, Leon and Mira continued moving.

More soldiers tried cutting them off farther ahead, but the deeper they went, the fewer appeared.

They passed through several narrow streets before the buildings finally began opening around them.

A large plaza appeared ahead at the far end of it stood the largest building they had seen so far.

It seemed to be the town hall it stood above the surrounding houses with broad stone steps leading toward enormous closed gates.

Karl slowed down and so did the soldiers following them several dozen had followed them into the final street, but none entered the plaza.

Even the rooftop archers stopped at the surrounding buildings.

Mira looked around. "They don’t want to come here."

Just as Karl was about to say something he felt a massive influx of death energy and he turned his head towards the gate of the town hall.

Karl tightened his grip on the Death Stick.

Then—

BOOM!

The enormous gate flew open and a figure stood there coated in complete black but it’s features looked unmistakably humane.

Leon frowned. "Why does that thing look like Galzan?"

Karl had noticed it too, it’s features looked almost the same as Galzan’s human form.

Then Karl’s attention shifted roward its neck, a small token hung there.

The moment Karl focused on it, a panel appeared.

[Reaper’s Order]

Karl’s eyes shifted back toward the black figure and another.
