Chapter 299: Chapter 299 - Need the other mate

"I’m his mate! I’m his mate! Why can’t I go in?!"

Bian’s angry scream echoed through the hallway outside the healer’s room.

That was the sight Jian walked up to.

He stopped a short distance away and stared at Bian, who was standing in front of the closed doors of the infirmary.

Several healers were moving in and out, but none of them seemed willing to let Bian enter.

The man’s face was flushed from shouting, his fists tightly clenched at his sides as tears continued to roll down his cheeks.

Jian leaned against the wall and took a good look at his brother.

Bian’s face had thinned quite a bit. The roundness that had once made him look younger and somewhat cute was gone, leaving behind a much sharper face. His eyes were still beautiful, though. Even from this distance, Jian could see the same craziness hiding behind them.

Where has he changed...?

Jian narrowed his eyes slightly.

Tsk. Nansich, that fool. He’s so easy to trick.

He pushed himself away from the wall and walked toward Bian.

"Why are you shouting outside the infirmary?" Jian asked. "You’re causing a ruckus."

Bian immediately turned toward him.

"Jian..." His teeth gritted together for the briefest moment, but the angry expression quickly disappeared beneath another innocent, tearful face.

"They aren’t letting me inside," he said, his voice trembling. "I can calm Dican. He’s my mate. I can help him. Why won’t they let me go inside?"

Jian frowned.

He honestly didn’t understand the situation either, so he turned his head toward Xing Yu, who was standing guard beside the healer’s room.

His mate stood there with his arms crossed, watching the door like a hawk and clearly having no intention of letting anyone enter without permission.

Feeling Jian’s gaze on him, Xing Yu glanced over and calmly explained.

"The healers have already checked Dican. His hormone levels are abnormal, and his body is reacting badly to the stress. He needs his mate nearby to calm him down."

As he spoke, Xing Yu’s gaze slowly shifted toward Bian.

"The second prince’s consort tried, but he couldn’t bring the readings back to normal."

Bian’s lips trembled.

He immediately bit down on them, trying to stop himself from crying harder.

"Let me try again."

"I’m sorry," Xing Yu said, shaking his head. "But your presence is only making the readings worse."

Bian’s face went pale.

For a moment, he simply stood there as if he hadn’t heard correctly.

Then his fingers curled tightly into the fabric of his clothes.

"That can’t be true."

His voice was barely above a whisper.

"I’m his mate. How could I make him worse?"

Jian glanced between the two of them before suddenly speaking.

"Why don’t we have Nansich try?"

The moment those words left his mouth, Bian’s expression completely changed. "He is the reason Dican is like this!" His voice rose so sharply. "You want him to get close to Dican?!"

Bian pointed toward the hallway, his eyes red from crying.

"In fact, I want him arrested! He did something to Dican! I know he did! He must have done something to him!"

"He is the reason!"

Jian immediately backed away and covered both ears. "Tsk! Can you talk normally? Why do you scream all the time?"

Bian stared at him in disbelief.

Jian lowered one hand and nudged Xing Yu with his elbow.

"Let’s just try it with Nansich for once."

Xing Yu didn’t answer immediately.

He slowly turned his head toward the healer’s room and looked through the transparent section of the door.

The second prince had once been lively, troublesome, and full of energy. Now he was lying there almost lifeless, his body struggling simply to remain stable.

Xing Yu let out a quiet sigh before finally nodding.

"We can try."

Jian immediately nodded.

"Good. Then I’ll go get Nansich."

Behind them, Bian’s hands slowly tightened.

His nails dug into his palms as he watched Jian walk away.

He couldn’t let Nansich get close to Dican.

His tear-filled eyes lowered as his mind raced.

No... I can’t let that happen.

Jian hurried back toward his room. The moment he reached the door, he found Nansich walking out of the room with a lazy expression on his face.

Before he could even ask what was happening, Jian grabbed his hand.

"Come with me."

"Huh?"

Nansich barely had time to react before Jian started dragging him down the corridor.

"Hey, wait!"

"Just come with me..."

Nansich stumbled after him for a few steps before finally managing to keep up. He stared at the back of Jian’s head in complete confusion.

"Dude, what is going on?"

"They need you for some testing." Jian answered so vaguely that his eyebrows immediately pulled together.

"What testing?"

"Just some testing."

"Why do they need me?"

"Because they do."

Nansich stopped walking for half a second.

Jian simply pulled him forward again.

"Come on."

"What the hell, Jian?"

Nansich reluctantly followed, still completely clueless about what was happening. He kept glancing at Jian’s face, trying to figure out whether his friend was joking, but Jian looked unusually serious.

The moment they reached the infirmary, Nansich’s complaints died in his throat.

The large glass section built into the healer’s door gave them a clear view of the room inside.

Nansich’s footsteps suddenly slowed.

His eyes widened.

Dican was floating inside the transparent healing chamber, his entire body suspended in a strange blue-golden liquid. His pale blond hair drifted weightlessly around his face, moving gently with the currents inside the chamber. Golden light passed over his body in thin waves as the healing devices continued scanning him.

But it wasn’t the strange machine that made Nansich freeze.

It was Dican.

His face looked so pale and exhausted.

The man who had chased after him earlier, the one who had stubbornly grabbed him and refused to let go, now looked completely different. His eyes were closed, his face hollow and drained of color, and his body looked strangely fragile inside the glowing liquid.

Nansich’s fingers slowly loosened in Jian’s grip.

Something suddenly clenched inside his chest.

His heart gave a painful squeeze.

He couldn’t explain it.

He had only met that man once before, years ago. He barely remembered what had happened between them, and yet the moment he saw Dican lying there, a strange pain spread through his chest and continued deeper, as if it wasn’t his body that was hurting at all.

It felt like something was twisting inside his soul.

Nansich swallowed hard.

His breathing became strangely uneven as he stared through the glass.

"What...what happened to him..."
