Chapter 1725: Chapter 1822: Killing Intent in the Grey Fog
Fifteen days; five days more than Fang Lin had anticipated.
It took a full half-month for Fang Lin and Liu Zhou to finally bring the refinement of True Essence Golden Body Pills to its conclusion. Before the sun rose on the sixteenth day, the True Essence Golden Body Pills were finally completed.
At the moment the pills were finished, Liu Zhou was utterly exhausted, nearly coughing up blood.
Though Fang Lin did not personally take action, these half-months drained him considerably; if he had refined the pills himself, he wouldn’t have felt so fatigued.
After all, Fang Lin not only needed to guide Liu Zhou constantly but also had to worry about whether Liu Zhou would make mistakes, even thinking ahead about how to remedy any errors Liu Zhou might make.
Luckily, Fang Lin’s guidance was incredibly meticulous—when to do what, when to adjust the fire—down to the fraction of a degree, and Liu Zhou was extremely careful and focused, never doubting Fang Lin’s instructions, complying with whatever Fang Lin told him to do.
Through this collaborative division of labor, a furnace of reasonably good-quality True Essence Golden Body Pills was finally refined.
Looking at the nine golden, round pills in the pill furnace, Liu Zhou’s aged face broke into an extremely joyous smile.
As a Pill Refiner, being able to refine a furnace of pills that satisfies oneself is the greatest accomplishment.
“Nine True Essence Golden Body Pills, all of medium quality—it’s fairly good,” Fang Lin remarked.
Liu Zhou chuckled sheepishly, “Master Fang, my ability is limited, and this is the best I could do.”
Fang Lin smiled slightly, “It doesn’t matter, Master Liu has helped me greatly; I will remember this kindness in my heart. If Master Liu needs help in the future, feel free to ask me.”
Upon hearing this, Liu Zhou’s expression showed a hint of joy. Establishing friendly relations with Fang Lin was certainly a good thing, as more friends mean more opportunities, especially with someone like Fang Lin, which effectively opens up a wide path.
Fang Lin waved his hand, stowed away the Nine Treasure Luminous Cauldron, and also placed the nine True Essence Golden Body Pills into a jade bottle.
“Forgive me, Master Liu, but I cannot share these nine True Essence Golden Body Pills,” Fang Lin said apologetically.
Liu Zhou shook his head repeatedly, “Master Fang should take them all; these True Essence Golden Body Pills are of no use to me, and refining this furnace of pills is largely due to Master Fang’s effort.”
Fang Lin thought for a moment and took out a token.
“Take this, if you encounter something you cannot resolve, you can seek help through this token,” Fang Lin said.
Liu Zhou accepted the token, and upon seeing it, nearly exclaimed in shock, his heart pounding everywhere.
On the front of the token, there’s an intricately engraved Kylin, so lifelike it seems ready to leap from the token.
On the reverse side of the token, there’s a striking “Swallow” outlined in crimson color.
Undoubtedly, this token is clearly a mystical token of the Sky Swallowing Palace!
Liu Zhou felt immensely excited; this is a token from the Sky Swallowing Palace, and there are likely only a few people who possess it within the Nine Countries. Being able to obtain this token means securing a connection with the Sky Swallowing Palace.
“Since it is Master Fang’s gift, the old man will accept it.” Liu Zhou carefully stowed the token within the Nine Palace Bag, trying to conceal his emotions, though his face inevitably showed some slight signs of joy.
Fang Lin said, “I must pass through that Deadly Mist; take care, Master Liu.”
Having said that, Fang Lin turned to leave.
“Take care, Master Fang.” Liu Zhou bowed respectfully.
After walking a few steps, Fang Lin suddenly turned back and said, “The Pill Alliance isn’t the same as before.”
Liu Zhou had a complex expression upon hearing this, but his gaze gradually firmed up as if he had made some decision.
····
Within the gray mist, a figure stood amidst it, enveloped with a faintly glowing golden aura, as though a layer of golden light shrouded this person.
The deadly gray mist encountered this layer of golden light and scattered away, unable to affect the person standing within the golden glow.
“Indeed, the True Essence Golden Body Pill has impressive restraining effects on the gray mist; however, at my current pace, I don’t know if eight more pills will suffice to reach the Extreme North Icefield.” Fang Lin gazed ahead, then glanced behind him; apart from himself, there was no other creature present. Walking for so long seemed quite desolate and lonely, as if the heavens and the earth had left him all alone.
As Fang Lin walked, he saw many withered corpses, some human, some wild beasts, and Demon Beasts.
Looking at these corpses, Fang Lin’s expression became very solemn. If this gray mist spread across the entire land of the Nine Countries, wouldn’t it cause untold deaths? It would be akin to a devastating calamity.
Fang Lin worried further if the Demon Beast might head towards the Sky Swallowing Palace, given the terrifying strength of this beast; not even Dugu Nian himself might be able to repel it.
Furthermore, besides this Demon Beast, there’s the mysterious figure transformed by the Eye, whom Fang Lin regarded with extreme dread. Whether friend or foe was entirely unclear, and until their alignment was known, Fang Lin considered this person as the greatest threat.
The gray mist stretched endlessly, spanning unknown thousands of miles.
Fang Lin had journeyed for dozens of days, yet had not emerged from this plain, and according to his estimations, he reckoned he’d have to walk for another dozen days before likely sighting the Extreme North Icefield.
After all, Fang Lin was entirely reliant on his two legs for travel, though his strong physique allowed him to walk swiftly, it was nonetheless much slower compared to flying through the air.
During his journey, Fang Lin continued attempting to operate the Nine Cauldron Skypassing Spell, hoping to recover his cultivation, however, he hadn’t made any progress.
Fang Lin even suspected that forcing through the seal might pose a mortal danger to himself.
A slightly foul breeze swept past, making Fang Lin halt his steps, and he peered ahead.
A similarly solitary figure was stepping towards him slowly.
Fang Lin’s heart jostled—in this gray mist, was someone else besides himself?
Suddenly, Fang Lin glanced back; unexpectedly, there was someone else behind him, appearing out of nowhere.
One ahead, one behind, both individuals advanced towards Fang Lin, and a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth, though his heart felt heavy.
This mist, which should not have any living being, unexpectedly sported two individuals. Furthermore, they conveniently approached him one from the front, one from the rear?
Fang Lin surely wouldn’t believe such a coincidence; these two must have come for him.
Sure enough, when both individuals were less than a hundred paces from Fang Lin, voices laden with killing intent abruptly echoed.
“Zhang Lao’er of the Hidden Kill Hall, ordered by the Hall Master to take Fang Lin’s head.”
“Wu Laosan of the Hidden Kill Hall, ordered by the Hall Master to claim Fang Lin’s life.”
