Chapter 1539: Chapter 1637: Children Fighting
Dugu Fengyun returned to the main hall with an expression that seemed somewhat off. On seeing Fang Lin and Dugu Nian still there, apart from them, everyone else had already left. However, the Demon Suppressing King’s bloody head was still present.
“Grandfather, you look pale, did something happen?” Dugu Nian asked.
Dugu Fengyun frowned, still bearing unresolved anger on his face: “The royals of Ling Country have gone too far, actually desiring the Soul Sword Cultivation Skill of our Dugu Family.”
Fang Lin, listening to this at the side, also showed a slight change in expression. The royal family of Ling Country wanted the Dugu Family’s Soul Sword Cultivation Skill?
The heritage Soul Sword Secret Skill of the Dugu Family was extremely formidable, a rare secret technique for cultivating the soul. It allowed one to condense a Soul Sword using the power of their own soul, capable of severing the enemy’s soul as well as their own.
Originally, Dugu Nian had self-severed half of her soul, which was achieved through the Soul Sword Skill.
Within the Dugu Family, currently, only Dugu Fengyun and Dugu Nian practiced the Soul Sword Skill, with other family members simply unable to cultivate it.
Because the Soul Sword Skill was very peculiar, with exceedingly strict requirements for cultivators, only Dugu Fengyun and Dugu Nian in the entire family could cultivate and materialize the Soul Sword.
Even the Dugu Family’s number one Martial Arts genius, Dugu Ruoxu, had once attempted to cultivate the Soul Sword Skill, but ended up with nothing, and so he gave up.
Dugu Ruoxu was indeed a genius, with martial talent surpassing Dugu Nian, but in terms of soul aptitude, he was not as good as Dugu Nian.
The Dugu Family’s ability to stand firm in Xuan Country for so many years without falling was greatly related to mastering the rare Soul Sword Skill. Countless opposing forces coveted the Dugu Family’s Soul Sword Skill, desiring but utterly unable to obtain it.
“These Ling Country royals truly have an exaggerated sense of entitlement, asking for nothing else but our Dugu Family’s Soul Sword Cultivation Skill. They even say that if we don’t agree, our Dugu Family should not think about entering Ling Country, and they’d even join hands with Demon Suppressing King to deal with our Dugu Family,” Dugu Fengyun said, his words laced with anger.
Dugu Nian smiled slightly: “We need not pay heed to them.”
Dugu Fengyun nodded. Now that the Demon Suppressing King was dead, the Dugu Family had no need to move en masse to Ling Country, eliminating the issue of being blackmailed by the Ling Country royals.
“Granddaughter, that Sky Swallowing Palace, was it truly established by you and Fang Lin?” Dugu Fengyun had some lingering doubts and asked uncertainly.
Dugu Nian said: “The Sky Swallowing Palace was indeed established by Fang Lin and myself.”
Dugu Fengyun sucked in a breath of cold air. His heart was filled with shock, complexity, and a mix of relief.
Over the years, Dugu Fengyun often worried whether Dugu Nian would be bullied outside. Now, it seemed his granddaughter had achieved more than he had imagined and had become a formidable presence in her own right.
“Grandfather, no matter who I am in the eyes of others, I am always your granddaughter,” Dugu Nian said.
Dugu Fengyun smiled: “Grandfather understands.”
····
The Ancestral Mansion of the Dugu Family was vast, built against a mountain and sprawling over a thousand miles.
Dugu Nian went to spend time with her parents, and Fang Lin, having nothing else to do, started wandering around the Dugu mansion.
Passing by a spacious courtyard, Fang Lin inadvertently saw a few children playing in the yard.
These children seemed to be only about seven or eight years old. Among them, one child dressed in simple clothes caught Fang Lin’s attention.
Apart from this child, the other three children were dressed in fine clothes, looked robust, and appeared to have been brought up in pampered conditions.
The plain-clothed little boy, however, had a sallow complexion and was thin and frail, standing half a head shorter than the other three children.
At this moment, the three richly dressed children were surrounding the weak little boy.
The frail child stood there with his head bowed and not saying a word, being bullied by the three richly dressed children without uttering a sound, nor retaliating, simply accepting their torment.
Plop!
One of the chubby kids seemed to use too much force and pushed the weak boy to the ground.
Still, the latter remained silent, silently standing up from the ground, dusting off his clothes, and glaring at the three richly dressed children.
“What are you staring at?” The chubby child shoved the weak boy several more times, repeatedly knocking him down to the ground.
An ordinary child, being bullied like this, would probably be crying and wailing, yet that thin boy remained silent throughout.
Fang Lin watched with great interest from outside the courtyard, not leaving, to see whether the puny boy would strike back after being bullied too much, or whether he would start crying.
After a while, it seemed the three children found it meaningless to bully the little boy continuously, so they turned to leave the courtyard.
Just then, the frail boy suddenly picked up a rock near his feet, swung it, and smashed it directly on the chubby child’s head.
The blow was not light; it seemed the weak boy had used all his strength in that one hit, and as the rock was quite hard, the chubby child immediately fell to the ground with a horrendous scream, blood flowing from his head.
And it didn’t end there; after knocking down the chubby child, the frail boy continued to pummel the other two children with the rock, leaving all three bloodied and screaming in pain on the ground.
Fang Lin was taken aback. He had thought the slender child would just endure the bullying, but to his surprise, the boy had viciously attacked with a rock when the chubby child and his companions turned to leave.
His aggression was brutal, and the sight of the three children bloodied and miserable was quite pitiable.
“What happened?” A few adults quickly rushed out from within the dwelling, and upon seeing the scene in the courtyard, they became furious.
“Scoundrels!” One of the men slapped the frail child’s face, toppling him to the ground with the blow.
The weak child spat out blood from being hit, his face showing the pain, but he still did not cry; instead, he just glared at the man who hit him.
The other adults picked up the three bloody children to check their injuries, and upon seeing the adults, the children cried even louder.
“This is too cruel, the children’s heads are cracked open!” The relatives of the injured children were all seething with anger, glaring viciously at the thin boy still holding the rock.
“Break his arms and legs, and throw him out directly. He’s just the bastard child of some waste, keeping him here is simply a curse,” the man who had struck earlier said coldly.
Upon hearing this, hatred deepened in the eyes of the frail child.
Fang Lin entered the courtyard and approached the man.
The man was taken aback, then his face showed reverence, and he bowed to Fang Lin: “Master Fang, greetings.”
Fang Lin didn’t pay him any mind but instead turned to look at the frail boy.
Of course, the boy did not recognize Fang Lin and thought he was there to harm him, so he just glared at Fang Lin, raising the rock in his hand again.
