Chapter 1279 1378 Red-Haired Dugu Nian

Chapter 1279: Chapter 1378: Red-Haired Dugu Nian Chapter 1279: Chapter 1378: Red-Haired Dugu Nian The towering Pill Pole Tower now stood unguarded, as its four elderly protectors were trapped within Situ Yue’s Jade Chessboard. Although their lives were not in danger, they found it difficult to extricate themselves for the time being.

Situ Yue gazed at the Pill Pole Tower, a chilly smile appearing on her face. With a sudden wave of her hand, a terrifying aura surged toward the Pill Pole Tower like a tidal wave.

Her action was aimed at destroying the Pill Pole Tower, severing the foundation of the Pill Alliance.

Just then, the Pill Pole Tower shone brightly, and an invisible barrier rose up, blocking all of Situ Yue’s offensive moves.

At a glance, Situ Yue’s delicate eyebrows slightly furrowed, “There’s indeed an array protecting it.”

Situ Yue did not give up, continuing the assault, hell-bent on destroying the most important stronghold of the Pill Alliance—the Pill Pole Tower.

But after a long siege, the Pill Pole Tower remained undamaged, not even harmed in the slightest by Situ Yue, who couldn’t even break the invisible barrier.

Situ Yue now saw the crux of the matter; the array defending the Pill Pole Tower was truly formidable, proving difficult to break even for a powerhouse of her caliber.

Meanwhile, the four elderly sages trapped in the Jade Chessboard were also desperately using their divine powers to break free from the board.

Despite the Jade Chessboard’s inscrutable strength, the four elders were quite powerful and wouldn’t remain trapped indefinitely—they would eventually break free.

Situ Yue narrowed her eyes and suddenly stopped her attack, simply looking at the Pill Pole Tower.

Suddenly, the stone doors to the first layer of the Pill Pole Tower opened, and a figure emerged.

It was a young girl dressed in blue, with hair as red as fire and a countenance icy cold; even her deep-red eyes were unsettling.

If Fang Lin had been there, he would have been extremely shocked for the girl’s face was none other than Dugu Nian’s.

However, the original Dugu Nian didn’t have red hair or crimson eyes, nor did she possess such a chilly and grim demeanor—aside from resembling her in appearance, Dugu Nian appeared to have become a different person altogether.

Dugu Nian walked out from the Pill Pole Tower and saw Situ Yue standing outside. Her expression remained unchanged, and she showed no sign of surprise.

“I must have good luck. Killing you would mean the Pill Alliance loses a genius,” said Situ Yue with a cold laugh.

Dugu Nian didn’t say a word; she just looked at Situ Yue indifferently, those peculiar red eyes revealing nothing but endless chill.

Situ Yue moved swiftly and stood before Dugu Nian, reaching out to grab her throat.

Dugu Nian didn’t budge, seeming not to react at all.

In an instant, Situ Yue had grasped Dugu Nian by the throat and lifted her up by her neck.

“Such a pretty girl, but it’s a pity you met me; your life is too short,” said Situ Yue as she was about to exert force and crush Dugu Nian’s neck.

But at that moment, a white light shone from the center of Dugu Nian’s forehead. Situ Yue’s expression changed instantly, and she released Dugu Nian, retreating repeatedly.

“What’s happening? Why is there an aura on her that I find daunting?” Situ Yue thought with a grave expression.

Dugu Nian looked at Situ Yue and cracked a smile. Her originally stunning beauty, when revealed in a smile, now contained a hint of eeriness.

Situ Yue, fraught with confusion and wariness, saw the red-haired girl close her eyes, her body swayed slightly, then she collapsed onto the ground.

Situ Yue’s puzzlement deepened as she witnessed this. The girl seemed extremely unusual to her, and it appeared that there was some kind of very powerful strength hidden within the girl’s body.

After much thought, Situ Yue waved her hand, bringing Dugu Nian into the Jade Chessboard, then she released the four elders.

Having done this, Situ Yue did not linger at the site and turned to leave straightaway.

“Where do you think you’re going?” The four elders had witnessed Dugu Nian being taken by Situ Yue. How could they endure this? They hastily pursued in an effort to retrieve Dugu Nian.

Unfortunately, their cultivation was no match for Situ Yue’s, and they were unable to catch up. The distance between them grew further and further until finally, Situ Yue had completely lost the four elders and disappeared without a trace.

The four elders were left watching as Situ Yue vanished from sight, their expressions exceedingly grim at the way Dugu Nian had been taken.

“What should we do now?” The elders looked at each other, their faces filled with worry.

“No matter what, we must tell the South Zodiac King first,” one of the elders said, shaking his head.

The elders immediately reported the events at the Pill Pole Tower to the South Zodiac King, who was stationed at Pill Forest Academy.

The South Zodiac King was in the middle of dealing with important matters when he learned of the incident at the Pill Pole Tower, especially that Dugu Nian had been abducted by Situ Yue. He was greatly alarmed and set aside everything he was working on to personally set out for the Extreme North Land.

Upon reaching the Extreme North Land, the South Zodiac King followed the direction of Situ Yue’s disappearance, based on the elders’ description.

He continued the pursuit all the way to the boundaries of Tang Country, where the South Zodiac King sighed. He hadn’t caught up with Situ Yue, who was probably far away by now.

The South Zodiac King’s anxiety deepened. The abduction of Dugu Nian was a very bad omen indeed.

Thinking of the relationship between Dugu Nian and Fang Lin, if Fang Lin were to learn of Dugu Nian’s abduction, he might direct his anger at the Pill Alliance, believing they had failed to offer protection. If Dugu Nian could be snatched away while at the Pill Pole Tower, by someone from Seven Seas no less, what did that say about the Alliance’s competence?

The South Zodiac King immediately ordered two powerful figures to guard the Pill Pole Tower and forbade the four elders from revealing any information about Dugu Nian’s abduction.

In the South Zodiac King’s mind, the priority was to figure out how to rescue Dugu Nian from Seven Seas as quickly as possible. If too much time passed, there was no telling what could happen. If Fang Lin were to find out, predicting how the young man would react was impossible.

The best course of action, he thought, was to keep Fang Lin in the dark and then rescue Dugu Nian. That way, even if Fang Lin found out that Dugu Nian had been taken by Seven Seas, as long as she was rescued, it was likely he would not hold a grudge against the Pill Alliance.

The South Zodiac King’s greatest fear was being unable to rescue Dugu Nian, and for Fang Lin to learn of this dismal turn of events, which would be extremely unfortunate.

At this moment, far away in Qian Country, Fang Lin’s Thunder Pond Baptism was entering a critical step.

Fang Lin had already achieved a breakthrough once and had successfully entered the Eighth Layer of Spirit Bone. Now, he was nearing the Ninth Layer of Spirit Bone and trying to break through.

Once Fang Lin succeeded, and stepped into the Ninth Layer of Spirit Bone, he would not be far from the Spirit Source realm.

For someone of Fang Lin’s age to reach such a level of cultivation was indeed astonishing. However, in such a chaotic time, even if Fang Lin advanced to the Spirit Source realm, it would just mean a bit more self-preservation, far from enough to contend with the true powerhouses.

“Hmm? Why do I feel uneasy?” Deep in the sky within the Thunder Pool, Fang Lin suddenly opened his eyes with a trace of confusion in them.
